One Sexy Power Drill

Designed to be more approachable, NEUTRAL is a reassessment of the traditional power drill to make it easier for non-handy people like myself. No complex dials or switches – just an intuitive slide mechanism that automatically adjusts settings based on the desired depth of drive. The hand guard helps with screw stabilization, houses a stud finder and a laser guide to project plum lines and assist with leveling.

NEUTRAL Power Drill is an iF concept design 2011 entry.

Pretty good! My dad would love it.

My dad says it is so ugly.

You went to all that trouble and you couldn't be bothered to spell properly the words which
    communicate what you have done.
    It is spelled plumb!
    Your credibility blown !

    把手外侧握起来会不舒服吧?

that looks like the most unusable drill ever.

If you're not “handy” enough to use a regular powerdrill, this ain't gonna help ya one iota. Not to mention the horrible ergonomics. My hand cramps just looking at it.

    Good design! but sexy….sexy drill?

  • Melchior says:

This drill is only optimized for 1 situation and that is drilling/screwing in/on to a flat surface with enough space to put the drill on. There are enough situations where this doesn't apply. With it's current design compared to an ordinary powerdrill flexibility is greatly reduced.

  • Melchior says:

Also, it's not very clear on how you can switch bit's/drills. From the looks it can only hold bit's and no drill's. Even the most cheap power drill can hold different sizes of drills. The slide mechanism might be a problem, when you want to drive in a screw you need to apply a lot of pressure so you won't destroy the head of the screw or the screwbit. Crappy ergonomics, greatly reduced flexibility, no drills(?), optimized for 1 situation. The whole thing is bad in so many ways.

Sorry Melchior, a bit is what makes the hole or turns the screw etc. if it makes a hole it is a 'drill bit'. True this drill has no chuck. maybe it could corner a market for drill bits and attachments which have hexagonal interfaces.

I didn't see anyone pick on the plumb line in the sense of its function.

I saw a product that seems like this once in IF design award but I don't know what come first this sexy power drill or the brazilian product that won the IF. Coincidence?

This designer obviously doesn’t do much work with a drill. “desired depth of drive”?? That’s pretty useless. Ergonomics from repeated drilling looks horrible.
