A Freestanding Coatrack You’ll Love

The latest from the clever minds at MZPA design studio comes this creative coat hanger by the name of Hilka (Ukranian for ‘branch’). The limited edition set of two similar designs looks to nature for inspiration, bending each tip of its birch rods in such a way that it resembles a natural branch.

The rods are placed in dedicated slots, extending upward from a wooden base and metal platform that can be used as a surface for storing items or a place to sit and dress. In pristine white and natural wood, the minimalistic design will easily blend in with a variety of interior aesthetics and is ideal for any entryway or as a room divider, depending on the user’s preference.

“The rail “Hilka” is comfortable in use and transportation. Creating it the authors put emphasis on its mobility. The hanger may be easily moved, removed, adjusted to all your needs. It is composed of 4 or 6 ash sticks, which at the end are branching into three or four parts, creating additional space for hanging clothes,” designers Zachkevych and Boychuk explained.

“We were searching for a unique technique that would allow to bend the billets uniformly, withstand the same bending radius and length of the grooves, while firmly holding the sticks together to make the product durable and waterproof. Creating of the “Hilka” includes 11 stages of production, among which is handiwork and longtime wood preparation process. Flexible and the same time solid ash-wood was chosen as a basic material of the hanger,” MZPA told Yanko Design.
