Coffee Lab

The Bodum Coffee & Tea Maker is unlike any I’ve seen before. A borosilicate glass reservoir & beverage filter are integrated as detachable modules, making the coffee or tea completely spill-proof. The engagement of brewing process is revealed in one central, elegant device. A new chapter in both coffee & tea culture!

Gorgeous, elegant design. Lately, with Bodum’s new design language,I find myself wanting to own them again, from cool rubbery Orange Toasters, to Lime Green Glassware surrounds, and especially this timeless design, which will look good for a long time coming. I want one !!

So, who is Sunny Ting Wai Wong? Googling the name just turns up a bunch more pages with this coffee maker on it.

Nice fake concept. Too bad we can’t get it for real. Love this.

  • Loe says:

So sad this is vaporware. WANT!

  • Mairin says:

    so many problems with this.
How do you attach the top of the ball to the bottom without spilling from one or the other?
What controls the water flow from saturating the grounds/leaves too quickly or during heating?
How are the grounds/leaves shielded from the heat during boiling? (think of what heat does to grass)
What about the difference in brewing time between coffee and tea?
Why (from the top view) isn’t the base a rectangle? Where am I supposed to put an oddly shaped (large) device on my countertop?

Does this have anything going for it besides being a beautiful rendering?

How do I “trun the knob?”

  • DH says:

I don’t know the technique of this design exactly, so I don’t want to question the reasonability of this design. But it’s clealy not a safe design to say. Without any part to handle and any anti-skid design. It’s beatutiful but useless, like the juicer design of Philippe Starck.

  • Quintin says:

Looks pretty but seems completely impractical.

This design is completely the opposite of Bodum design, in my opinion… The design of Bodum comes out of the function of the ‘thing’. With this, it seems the other way around…

Also, I’ll boil water for tea, the designer of this pretty tea/coffee maker may then come put his or her hand on top of the glass teapot with boiling water in it.

  • Jelle says:

    Love it, really do! 🙂

  • Den says:

I love it… this thing must be in every kitchen! or in bedroom… if need so…

  • Rob says:

@DH: Phillipe Starcke’s Juicy Salif is more useful than it is beautiful. The juice drips down to the bottom point and drops straight into your glass. It couldn’t be simpler.
Not really comparable to this thing. I question the arcade button that’s supposed to be a turn knob. That part throws the whole thing off.
Pretty good rendering and photoshop work though.

  • Andrew says:

and bodum continues its path away from the simple but quality that came with the french press to the gimicky objects of the future. Has anyone else noticed that bodum products are getting better looking, and becoming less functional. thanks

  • Amazing! How much do you think something like this will cost?
