The Turning Point For A Phone

I love covering concept phones that may not have substance to them (tech-backing), but nevertheless are fun to read about. Featured here is a concept Sony Ericsson FH Mobile Phone that has a pivotal point to it. It flips vertical on a pivot to mimic a phone and rotates sideways to become a viewing screen for the media functions and web browsing. The phone even becomes an intercom of sorts when split into two, allowing easy communication between the two parties holding each end. What a high-tech walkie-talkie this would make!

  • Amazing idea, but I'm not sure it would ever work in practice. I can imagine the edges of the screen would get damaged very easily?

Looks great, but its the wrong way around,
I hold my hand in my right hand (as majority of people do) I will cover up half the screen in flip mode with my thumb!!.. Just put the screens on the other size (mirror flip the image :D)

I like it… I loved the Samsung U740, and wore that phone into the ground, but the double hinge never wore out or broke. This is the touchscreen smartphone equivalent, and I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
It'd have to use Andriod/WebOS because it is far to complex for Apple crap. Buttons? Moving Parts? Yeah, that's not any type of digital fruit.
As much as I like the Split-for-intercom idea, that's the opposite of what you want to do with a mobile device. "I though I gave you the other half of the phone!" "I gave it back!" "No, you didn't!"

Its funny, the top screen seems to be running iOS and the bottom one has a windows logo on it.

    • quantum says:

Thats exactly what i was thinking, and in one of the pictures the status bar looks android based. Phone 3-WAY!

      • Guest says:

It's a concept phone. No real hardware or software used. The artist just added screen shots from whatever he/she felt like.

just a 3D model with screenshots overlays on the face

This is wonderful, it solves the large screen size vs portability issues beautifully. I think we’ll see more if these in the future

I really dont se the point in this. Really. I want my phone to do all that? Makes no sense. You have plenty of places to watch video content and browse internet. And plenty widescreen mobile phones with simple design solutions. Why reinvent the wheel for god sakes?

This would be uber-cool, but I'm not so sure about the split down the middle of the screen which obviously couldn't be any other way. Still, I'll take one….
