Aimo - Portable Sonogram by Duck Young Kong

Aimo – Portable Sonogram by Duck Young Kong

With “Aimo” parents can begin forming an emotional bond with their child while it’s still in the womb. The device allows a mother to produce and capture sonograms of her baby with a built-in digital ultrasonic camera. Free from complex interfaces, she simply places “Aimo” on her belly and captures the image. A sound receiver allows her to listen to child’s heartbeat as corresponding abstract images are displayed on the device’s LCD screen.

Not Just a Duck

Not Just a Duck

If you ever travel to Wisconsin Dells in Wisconsin, USA, you’re going to find two things – one, lots of waterslides, two, ducks! Ducks in Wisconsin are boats with wheels, made for both land and water tourism. The post you’re reading right now isn’t a duck, it’s so much more! It’s the “Volkswagen Terrafine” and it’s designed by Niklas Palm for a union of water and land vehicles in a very rock and roll sort of manner. Landcruise then jet through the waves!

Giant Citystorm Bicycle by Michael Young

Giant Citystorm Bicycle by Michael Young

Giant, the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world, challenged UK interior, industrial and product designer Michael Young to create a fresh concept for two-wheeled transport to anticipate the needs of savvy city lifestyle consumers. ‘The starting point of the project was to study bicycles that riders we considered not to be sportsmen chose to ride in cities’, Young explains.

Duck Billed Helicopter Saves Lifes

Duck Billed Helicopter Saves Lifes

The H1 ‘Fugu’ by Matt Bassett is a purpose built helicopter targeted at disaster relief. It has been rationalized and rethought to optimize space with a minimal yet flexible package layout, thus allowing maximum efficiency and smaller required landing areas. To put it in perspective, it carries a similar sized load to a Chinook, and is 40 feet shorter, largely due to the coaxial rotor arrangement.

Don’t Duck Around This Player

Don’t Duck Around This Player

Quack Quack! Ok I won’t kid around this time, but I think Mac Funamizu has matured pretty much in his design sensibilities. The CD player is called Quackie, but the concept looks decent enough for the tweens who endorse stuff like the Mickey Mouse MP3 players. Quackie is thus: There’s a round body that rolls and a black speaker. The speaker is attached to the body at the axis and it rolls around the body. Simple functions of play/stop/next/back and volume up/down are included.

How Tall Today, Young One?

How Tall Today, Young One?

One of the cutest and most universal signs of growing up, marked by the parents of the child, is the pencil mark above the head on the wall. Pencil mark on the wall to show how tall. Young ones growing up, head height by head height. The only thing is, the place where this is generally marked is on a wall in a house that might not even be in the possession of the person once they’re grown up. So how does one keep this treasure? Let me lead you to it. Mark it here.

Tea-time FM Radio

Tea-time FM Radio

This is a study in radical simplification of interface. This radio reflects a simple metaphor of a cup with a tea bag. To turn on the radio, the user grabs the antenna of the radio and pulls it out. At the same time the volume are adjusted this way, the higher you pull out, the louder it becomes. To change radio station, simply turn the antenna.

Lighting Made Simple

Lighting Made Simple

Gotta love these minimal LED desk lamps by Duck Image. The Bamboo Lamp combines natural wood and aluminum into one angular, cohesive unit while the Swan Lamp boasts an elegant curved, aluminum arm. With intuitive touch-sensors, both are as simple as they are easy to use. The housing of the lamps is designed to hide components like screws and wiring for a clean, seamless finish.

Fire Hose Illuminates Your Smoldering Memories

Fire Hose Illuminates Your Smoldering Memories

Because of a fire’s tendency to disrupt a building’s power supply, Firefighters often lack enough light to effectively douse the flames. To help fix this problem, Duck Image co.’s Aurora hose nozzle uses an internal turbine to power eight LED’s that light up and refract off of the stream of water. This not only illuminates the direction of their firefighting efforts to other firefighters and victims, but makes for truly awe-inspiring Lightsaber flashlight battles.

Paper Scale

Paper Scale

This was bound to happen but Duck Image Studio is the first (that we know of) to apply paper electronic technology to a scale. The ultra thin flexible scale combines a pressure sensing sheet that relays information to an e-paper display. It’s waterproof, easy to clean, and can be rolled up for storage.

Light My Fire

Light My Fire

Two persistent devices in an emergency system are lights and water, but why do they have to be separate components? Duck Image Studio went about to create a unified ceiling sprinkler system incorporating a bright LED light. The light beam, which also comes from the nozzles, illuminates the scene making work easier for rescuers.
