Spruce Up That Bookcase With Ladders

Spruce Up That Bookcase With Ladders

When I think of those grand libraries around the world, they all have one thing in common – books so high up you need ladders to get to them. The Ladder Shelf plays on that by bringing a little whimsicality to any bookshelf.

Escape Into Your Cave

Escape Into Your Cave

There are times that we wish we could have a little more privacy, retreating into our own space of quietness. Adults crave this just as much as children. With Cave, we are given the opportunity to embrace our escape. Created as a bookshelf with its own Cave inside, allowing the user to retreat with a good book, or just sit and relax in their space.

Niche Lighting

Niche Lighting

We usually think of lighting as a persistent element in our homes but there are areas that need very little light just for an instance. Niche Lighting fills that purpose. The light panel can hide discretely in shelves tucked in between books. When you reach for that area, the light automatically turns on only illuminating its surroundings. When your hand moves away, it switches back off.

Collapsible Shelves For The Unorganized and Cheap

Collapsible Shelves For The Unorganized and Cheap

PLoP! is a storage shelving system designed for nomadic students on budget. Made from eco-friendly corrugated board, PLoP! weighs a mere 1.8kg and is collapsible, so students can easily carry it home with them, even on the public transport. Once at home, they simply have to remove the packaging, ‘plop’ it open, affix its backing supports and be prepared to be wowed as this humble material of a furniture holds the weight of dozens of books and objects.

Flexible Learning

Flexible Learning

Adaptive learning has been the new “it” word among educators for some time now but the tools of the trade haven’t really met the needs. Flexible Learning by designer Lena Edman addresses those issues with a tool kit consisting of a UMPC (ultra mobile PC), a PMP (portable multimedia player), and 60 mini e-ink screens.

Getting Back To Geometry Basics

Getting Back To Geometry Basics

Grade school taught us the basic shapes…. Triangle, Square and Circle; and those dang shapes haven’t really changed a bit in all these many years. Elegant as they are as individuals, their identities converge as this graceful Braun Geometrical Kettle. Depending from which angle you look at it, you can easily identify a distinct triangle, square or circle, seamlessly merging into each other. Clean lines and simplicity make it a hit in my books.

Gorge Coffee Table, It'll Stab Ya

Gorge Coffee Table, It’ll Stab Ya

Gorge is a coffee table inspired by a gorge. The deep valleys and canyons are created using powdered coated steel bent into a V-shape. The design plays up the muse but also provides structural integrity and storage opportunities for books and magazines. I see a perfect spot for my dog to make his den too. Nevermind that you could accidentally impale yourself on one of those corners. Gotta bleed for design you know.

No More Racks For My Mag, Only Stands

No More Racks For My Mag, Only Stands

I simply adore the eccentric style of Fredrik Färg. This time around he’s ready to woo the crowds with is magazine stand named Skyscrape. It’s like he wants to recreate an “architectural forest” around the room. For a person who likes to keep books neatly stacked, it would be a fetish nightmare, but for the whimsical…a visual treat!

Ten Exciting And Unique Backpacks

Ten Exciting And Unique Backpacks

Summer’s up and as most of you design students must be getting ready to buy supplies for the new term. Before you head out for a new backpack, just browse through this prized collection. I know most of them are just concepts, but they are unique, exciting and desirable.

So My Fork Makes Me Feel Guilty

So My Fork Makes Me Feel Guilty

Statistics in books make me just totally fall asleep. What this projects aims to do is to add another page to the three dimensional world of awareness. “What if this kind of information crawled off the page and seeped into the products that surround us?” That’s what Nadeem Haidary aims to explore. The first image you’ll see is of a fork whose prongs each represent the calories each capita consumes. Frightening?

Sit Deep on Nook

Sit Deep on Nook

An intrepid exploration into the lovely depths of knits and weaves. Designer Henry Sgourakis takes the patterns in weaves and knits of the Arts and Crafts period, past and present. My aunts live in a house filled with Arts and Crafts books, furniture, and nicks and nacks from all over the country, especially up in our corner of the United States – Midwest – Minnesota. And this lovely bit of furniture would be a wild, super addition to their world.

Affair With Notefolio

Affair With Notefolio

Most of my friends get all awestruck and goofy when they lay their hands on the latest netbooks. For me it’s always been an affair with notebooks and paper; a case of old habits dying hard, because I grew up using portfolios and paper books. Stationery essentials like the Notefolio are just my types. It’s a gamut of things: a handy recycled chipboard cover with a note book inside, a folder with an envelope for business cards; plus a strong rubber band that holds it all together. Apt for an Executive Assistant like me!

Alternate E-Book

Alternate E-Book

I am a voracious reader but I must confess that I prefer paper to the E-Books. However I won’t let my bias get in the way of showcasing the Bibliofile Electronic Book Reader. This one’s a nifty reader that uses page-turning gestures to generate the power necessary to update an e-paper display. The display supports something called the Active Reading margin which features apps like dictionary and word games that make reading fun without distracting much.
