Jason Hui

Nancy Wang

Radhika Seth

Chris Burns

Anthony James

Chad Smith

Phantom Water

Phantom Water

You guys wanted it, here it is. Our resident contributer and critic Zippy Flounder’s latest project called Phantom Water. A clock whose face is dynamically created by the science (magic) of ferro fluidics. His design goes beyond normal ferro fluids by being clear, non-toxic and eco-friendly. The technology is being marketed as “Smart Water” (isn’t that a drink?), which could go beyond clock applications to signage displays and anything else your creative minds can think of. Check out the video after the jump and sound off in comments!

Little Trailer That Almost

Little Trailer That Almost

This is the story of one product evolution from idea, through design, prototype and finally production. You might notice how the idea came, how the initial design was flawed but then solved in prototype. The path from idea to reality is full of branches, some in market position, some in design detail and others in production. I hope you enjoy this story of the little trailer that almost did.

The Arc Of The Project, A Real World Tale

The Arc Of The Project, A Real World Tale

Entrepreneurs/inventors go through many stages of enterprise and end to end can mean from product conception through to some resolution. The normal resolutions are sale of the technology, startup of an operating company with its sale to another firm, operating the company to build a brand or abandonment of the project due to market or financial forces. In general, end-to-end means concept through market insertion.

From the Trenches by Zippy Flounder

Zippy Flounder; regulars will certainly recognize his name. His comments have been met with both colloquial admiration and austere criticism. Love him or hate him, he has over 30 years of experience in industrial design so perhaps what may seem like aimless “bah humbugs” are actually valid points from a man who’s “been there, done that.” In our first of many guest contributions, Zippy tells it like it is. So hit the jump, read the article, and don’t hesitate to leave comments for him.
