As some of you may know, the Industrial Designers Society of America plays host to a collection of conferences every spring, and this year Long, our magnanimous editor, saw fit to send me off to the mid-east conference in Pittsburgh to report back to you all. The long and short of it? If you don’t have a job, don’t worry, nobody else does either.
Conference: IDSA
Statistics in books make me just totally fall asleep. What this projects aims to do is to add another page to the three dimensional world of awareness. “What if this kind of information crawled off the page and seeped into the products that surround us?” That’s what Nadeem Haidary aims to explore. The first image you’ll see is of a fork whose prongs each represent the calories each capita consumes. Frightening?

I am a voracious reader but I must confess that I prefer paper to the E-Books. However I won’t let my bias get in the way of showcasing the Bibliofile Electronic Book Reader. This one’s a nifty reader that uses page-turning gestures to generate the power necessary to update an e-paper display. The display supports something called the Active Reading margin which features apps like dictionary and word games that make reading fun without distracting much.

Well that’s just silly! Why would a person who has no sight take a photograph that’s only able to be experienced by a person with full sight? Well that’s just it, isn’t it? Does the fact that the originator cannot experience the product they create make it incorrect for them to make it? Think about Van Gogh for instance – made art, around 2,000 pieces of it, but never became successful for it until after his death.
