Expanding Home

Expanding Home

Odorico Pordenone is a delightful caravan that expands its seams to accommodate you and your folks quite comfortably. For a person who is never intimidated by the size of the car that I am driving, a bulky trailer somehow manages to unnerve me. Looking into this idea’s perfect fusion of design, technological and architectural approach, I think this one has nailed it good.

The Quantum Theory

The Quantum Theory

Quantum Tap gives you a good reality check on how much water you ‘think’ you use and the actual. Working on the lines of how syringe works, the tap activates by pulling up a pump action-handle. Scaled markings on the stem of the handle indicate the amount of water that will be released by pulling the handle to a specific correlating height. You can choose how much water you want to use and pull up the handle accordingly. The faucet looks neat and the idea pretty simple; my only concern is soapy hands and a messy tap.

A'Design Award and Competition Roundup

A’Design Award and Competition Roundup

A wise man once said that design competitions are like insurance for the consumers, as they provide incentive to progress. A fair enough assessment if you ask me, which is why we participate and go through the motions of innovating and progressing. Here is a look at the recent A’Design Award and Competition; a round up of the five best designs we liked.

Magical Computing

Magical Computing

It is the future and we have invisible smart particles working over cloud computing, setting the standards for new-age gadgets and devices. With the flick of the wand, imagine drawing your gaming control or calculator with a pen-esque device called the Activator PC. Basically what you are doing is conjuring gadgets off thin air (infused with the smart particles) and activating apps and features according to your needs.

One of a kind kettle

One of a kind kettle

The latest addition to the Peel series of kitchenware by HJC Design is this striking cordless kettle. The series is named after the way the surfaces appear to “peel” away to bring attention to the primary functionality of each unit- here the surfaces peels away to form the spout. Other features unique to the series are the kettle’s eye-catching LED accents and rippled surface that not only gives it a modern style but serve as an intuitive indication of where the user should fill with water.

More Than Signals

More Than Signals

The Sólo is a modular traffic signal that can be easily disassembled and used for other purposes. A good example is the event of a road mishap, and how the lights can be intelligently used to create a detour for oncoming traffic. Even for road repairs; if the street is closed, may as well use the lights for marking out the hazard space! Clever use of LED lights ensure eco-sense and the modular format give the lights the versatility to be used in numerous circumstances.

Teaness

Teaness

I consider myself to be an amateur tea connoisseur, not so much about actual tea leaves. More so on the entire experience of making tea. Electric kettles, teapots, cups, etc. I have a whole cupboard filled with various tea sets and I’m so ready to throw down some cash to obtain TeaForTwo by designer David Pickett. They’re modern, handmade, 100% ceramic with a simple, functional yet elegant design. The main teapot with the exaggerated spout is genius. Love it. Fits me to a “tea”.

Cooking on Time

Cooking on Time

Well here’s a novel idea; an integrated timer on a pot lid called Time Me. Set exactly how long something is to simmer, boil, blanche and whatever else cookbooks tell you to do. This idea seems so obvious. If you’ve seen something similar, shoot me a link otherwise I’m going to have to call Captain Oblivious because this is most certainly a job for him. There’s no mention of what kind of “ding” the timer will make, because you know – that ding is very important. Zojirushi rice cookers hum a little diddy when they’ve completed their cook cycle. This needs something similar.
