Titanic Needed This!

Titanic Needed This!

One of the biggest fears while evacuating a sinking ship is the possibility of survivors being carried away by the tide, and people getting lost at sea. The Network Tube is a rescue tube with magnetic properties and aims to form a floating cluster, bringing people together via GPS. When people huddle together, they not only boost each other’s morale, but they also increase their chances of survival.

Xbox Evolution

Xbox Evolution

The 100% digital Xbox Prestige uses the foundations of the previous 360 Kinect to form this completely controller-less gaming console that’s even smaller than the Xbox Slim. A combination of motion sensor technology, including not one but two cameras built into the console, and integrated voice recognition make it a super responsive and hands-free gaming powerhouse.

Life Saving Air Drones

Life Saving Air Drones

The Airborne Avalanche Rescue System by designer Tatjana Rolle aims to decrease crucial emergency rescue times after avalanches by utilizing autonomous airborne drones to detect and mark the position of victims.  Immediately following the avalanche, the activated drone leaves its solar charging station, scouts the area and tags the positions with bright paint so rescuers can recover victims without delay.

Record Breaking Polar Vehicle

Record Breaking Polar Vehicle

In December 2011, the Polar Expedition Vehicle by Ian Nisbett Design will attempt to smash the Guinness World Record for the fastest Antarctic land crossing- exactly 100 years since the previous record holder’s accomplishment. The PEV also represents a new era in faster, more flexible polar exploration. Discovering Musical Culture

Discovering Musical Culture

One of my favorite things about visiting new cities is being able to soak up the unique musical culture that exists within each individual place. The Insono focuses this idea into an aesthetically playful and easy to use location-based mp3 player that gives local unsigned artists the chance to broadcast their music and users the chance to experience the musical soundtrack unique to their new surroundings , enhancing their overall connection and affinity for the culture.

Breaking Boundaries for the Blind

Breaking Boundaries for the Blind

As someone who’s had a string of eye problems since childhood, I feel incredibly lucky to have my sight and have truly come to appreciate designs that benefit the visually impaired. The G-Navi is an interactive guide dog system that aims to break boundaries & improve the independence & mobility of the sightless. G-Navi combines GPS navigation & a hands-free voice control system as well as vibrating-calibration technology to steer the guide dog to any waypoint the user selects. The pup’s harness even features a solar panel for constant charging.

A Phone That Speaks Your Language

A Phone That Speaks Your Language

The Transducer Mobile Phone Concept breaks down the language barrier by being the perfect translator between you and the other caller. It has this cool function that allows all incoming calls to be translated to your preferred language and vice versa. Amongst other features like GPS, transparent LCD and mesmerizing color effects, you can use the phone to communicate with the hearing & sight impaired folks. Far-fetch but a concept we’d love to see become reality.

Samsung HD3 Console Concept

Samsung HD3 Console Concept

If Samsung decided to dip its toe into the portable gaming market, would it look like the HD3 concept? Although it looks very similar to another portable currently out, it’s a completely different beast packed with enough technology to make one’s head spin. The OS driving this technology is Android (of course). I like the highfalutin specs but you should never let technology drive innovation. In that sense, this seems more like a fanboi’s pipe dream about the ultimate gaming machine. Hit the jump for the full specs.

Peugeot XB1

Peugeot XB1

It’s 2025. Cities have outgrown themselves, shifting mobility as we know it. Public transportation is more efficient than ever (ok, maybe it’s 2225), but car use is limited to long distance travel outside urban districts. Q: How do you make those short distance travels that are too long to walk? A: The Peugeot XB1. Ok, so it might just be hypothetical, but can we start getting ready, please? If for nothing else, just so we can zip around town on this cute, human size, wheeled exoskeleton reminiscent of Johnny-5?

Time is Squishy

Time is Squishy

Someone said that even a broken watch shows the correct time twice a day. With that “glass half full” mentality in mind, check out the Vague Clock. It’s not broken or anything. In fact it runs with GPS precision and can never be wrong. What’s unique is the dial and supporting intention. It’s meant to signify that time, although precious, is often the cause of stress. The pressure to keep up with our deadlines is abstracted and replaced with a playful distraction. To be able to read the time, you have to touch its squishy surface.

If Obama Had a Scooter

If Obama Had a Scooter

In response to growing urban environments, the Fuse electric scooter aims to provide quick, sleek transportation while being spatially efficient. This single-person concept reduces the size of the already compact scooter by auto-collapsing vertically in park mode. For public parking the Fuse charges via electromagnetic induction on it’s shared smart-charging mat. Other highlights of the Fuse include a touch-screen display, integrated GPS, and open wireless technology. Not just for Obama, but any young urban professional.
