How Low Can You Cellphone Limbo?

How Low Can You Cellphone Limbo?

AKA how simple can you design a mobile phone? Pretty darn simple. Designer Andrew Kim had a qualm with the HTC group, that being the fact that there’s no real perfectly simple way to differentiate between lots of “lower-end” phones and “premium models”, especially in the HTC line. So what’s he do? He simplifies. Don’t you see, everyone, we’re in the age of simplicity! The age of graphic design perfection, where the Bauhaus school of design handed us down the square shapes, so perfect in proportions that it took us 50 years to accept it! Here’s the “HTC 1.”

The One True Vinyl iPod Killer

The One True Vinyl iPod Killer

It doesn’t quite play real vinyl. It does appear to roll through records, though. It’s nice and roundy, it’s got multiple color schemes and configurations… it’s totally unnatural.

It’s called the Soma, and it comes in plastic, steel, wood, leather and a Yanko favorite: bamboo!

LG Synthesis Belongs On Your Keychain

LG Synthesis Belongs On Your Keychain

Another beautifully rendered phone concept from our favorite 16 year old designer, Andrew Seunghyun Kim, his LG Synthesis concept presents a simple touchscreen based smart phone.  While subverted in this post’s title, the phone’s hole is actually intended  as a low-tech viewfinder and docking port on its tree-like recharging station.  Beyond that, it’s solar powered headset and Kate Moss-like form factor make this the most refined thing to have come out of any 16-year-old I know.

Can You Smell Me Now?

Can You Smell Me Now?

While I wait for my mobile phone with built-in Swiss Army Knife functionality, I will admire this latest design dubbed LAVENDER DESIGN by Andrew Seunghyun Kim. Ready for the skinny on this sleek yet stinking phone? Well first off, it has a built-in perfume dispenser of you guessed it, lavender. If that were not enticing enough, the LAVENDER DESIGN also features a built-in “LAVENDER LIGHT” that coats your phone in a bath of bacteria killing UV lights while charging.

The iEveryting Stand

The iEveryting Stand

iMac – check; iPhone – check; iPad – check; iPod – check; looks like anything prefixed with an “i” has found its way to my desk and to organize them is thePolyply. Technically Andrew Kim should be calling it the iPoly, but never mind! The stand holds iEverything in a manner that makes it easy to charge and orient as secondary (and subsequent) displays. I love the way the keyboard can be teamed up with the iPad in the forefront and the iMac in the background.

Super Clean Surfaces

Super Clean Surfaces

The effervescent Andrew Kim is back again with yet another brilliant concept. This time it’s Warp, a cleaning system for your digital medias coupled with a system that hides wires and docks your iPhone. I simply love the clever attention to detail like the hidden USB ports in the underbelly of the dock. And not to miss the indents in the cleaner to reach the cracks and crevices of your keyboard and phone ports. Keep it up boy!

AV Design Forte by Andrew Varnish

The Forte is a carbon fibre bodied, front-mid engined urban sports car powered by a bio-fueled V8 engine mated to a 6-speed manual, or 5-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Access to the engine compartment is easy thanks to an aluminium bonnet hinged on both sides and opened from the left or right. Helping to keep the Forte’s engine cool are hidden air vents underneath the protruding front arches which also hide the slit-like LED headlights.

The Vitamins In Google Are So Good For You

The Vitamins In Google Are So Good For You

Brand power is everything in business and some people know how to milk it best. Sony, Microsoft, Apple, and our favorite Google…powerful names that carry a lot of weight. In the concept-design-world, the trick to get noticed is not to associate the brands with the obvious. For example, concept  Sony gadgets have been done to death, but a Google Envelope will attract more attention. Likewise having jaded Hollywood actresses sell fountain of youth pills pales in comparison to Google selling Vitamins.
