Stand back everyone this desk is about to make the jump to light speed. Or so goes the intention of this angular desk design by KINZO :: ARCHITECTURE called “Kinzo Air”. Inspired by space shuttles, imperial cruisers, stealth fighters, right angles and pretty much any sharp edge. Sit back, put your feet up and pretend to destroy someone’s home planet…or really do it, I don’t care.

One Gigantic Talking Table

One Gigantic Talking Table

The designers at KINZO have bestowed upon the world a gigantic table. This gigantic table is designed and executed by KINZO for Ernst & Young, a group that hates hitting the toes of the people they have meetings with. It’s a huge table, one that depending on your perspective looks like, quote, “a starship, a deep-sea ray or a hydrofoil.” It’s an epic atmosphere for epic meetings, making whoever’s in the meeting seem quite epic.

One Gigantic White Cabinet

One Gigantic White Cabinet

The cool folks over at KINZO are expanding their office furniture series “KINZO AIR” which we’ve written about before. Now here’s a feature on the cabinet by the name of AIR CABIN. It’s a giant brick, a fantastic monolith which opens up to reveal an abundance of space for all your office supplies and/or whatever else you’d love to stack inside. This AIR CABIN is a low sideboard filing cabinet that “swallows up to 90 files” and hides them away in a piece of furniture that works more like a piece of architecture than a moveable construction.

Kitchen Worthy of a Starship Captain

Kitchen Worthy of a Starship Captain

It’s easy to spend a fortune on a kitchen – especially if you want to show off your spending power by splashing out on prestigious, German or Italian brands with their awe-inspiring price tags. A young Hamburg-based family thinks differently – and commissioned KINZO, three young Berlin-based Designers, to create a bespoke kitchen that you won’t see anywhere else.

WAR! WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? Good Lighting!

WAR! WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? Good Lighting!

As the story goes, shortly after being elected president of the United States in 1981, Ronald Reagan was shown around the Pentagon by his chief of staff, James Baker. At the end of the tour, Reagan asked why they hadn’t seen the “War Room”? Baker explained that it didn’t exist, except in a movie. The movie was Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 classic “Dr. Strangelove” and the designer was legendary set designer Sir Ken Adams. Ken’s creations are the inspiration behind the design of this “AIRFLITE” by designers KINZO for idee.design.licht.

Adidas' New Sporty Office

Adidas’ New Sporty Office

I thought my office was cool until I saw the exterior of Adidas’ new corporate headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The part that really stung though, was seeing the interior… thanks to the design teams at KINZO and Kadawittfeldarchitektur, I now officially hate my office!! The new working environment features a custom, sporty, and functional furniture system they like to call “WORKOUT” … a perfect name considering the design is purely Adidas in both form and function. Hit the jump to see for yourself!

I have a confession; I realize I make far too many movie references in my posts for the beautiful concept designs we receive here at Yanko. The reason to me is clear, so many times in our modern world, the creative minds in the movie industry spark our imaginations and inspire us to shape our realities. Take for example the now iconic “Startac” phone from Motorola, inspired by the communicators of the old Star Trek series. Or how about the “AIRFLITE” by KINZO lighting originally designed by Sir Ken Adams for the movie Dr. Stragelove.
