The Universal Phone Has Sighted People Jealous

The Universal Phone Has Sighted People Jealous

The Universal Phone is designed for both blind and sighted people. How? Thousands of micro pins dynamically raise and lower forming a tactile surface for all to get touchy with. Sighted people get the elusive tactile feedback they’re missing with ordinary touch-screens and blind people get a whole new interface made of braille. The idea was inspired by the little raised dot on the number 5 on almost all mobile keypads. Hey if it works, why not extrapolate the idea into a whole new interface?

Ten Creative Camera Concepts

Ten Creative Camera Concepts

The camera is one gadget that gets me jittery. We have come a long way from the pin hole to the digitalized era; but the abundant options and navigations in the current ones leave me all confused. One time, I almost managed to ruin my African Safari photographs coz I forgot to switch the focus from manual to automatic! However, here is a look at ten concept cameras for the future that are conspiring to leave me as the amateur photographer, while you folks become the pro.

 Touchphone For The Blind

Touchphone For The Blind

The B-Touch mobile phone takes the iPhone touchscreen revolution a step ahead by incorporating innovate features to make a touchscreen cellphone for the blind. Limitation of senses does not hinder the sensitivity of this phone coz it combines technologies of blind-touch screen (Braille), voice systems and programs to function as regular phone, navi-system, book reader and object recognizer. Take a look at the video after the jump to understand it better.

Blind CC

Blind CC

The Credit Card for the Blind looks complicated but is quite simple to use. It uses the cardholder’s fingerprint (using fingerprint recognition software) as their signature and the Braille on the display for transaction details. An inbuilt speaker rattles-off the kind of products being paid for, thus giving the blind a complete account of the transaction autonomously. Giving them a completely secure and safe transaction.

No Longer Color Blind!

No Longer Color Blind!

Touch Color is the combination of a Thermal digital tablet and a Rainbow Color picking ring that allows a blind person to paint colorful pictures with his fingers on the tablet. The 24 colors on the ring are differentiated by Braille dots and varied temperature generated by the embedded LED bulbs. Artistically inclined or not, this concept of “Blind Color Painting” sure sounds like technology is heading in the right direction.

Walnuts for Music

Walnuts for Music

You learn something new every single day. Today I learned a term for an action for which, before today, I did not know the name of. It’s “walnut rolling” and it applies to the spinning of two spherical objects in your hand. You’ve done it before, I’m sure. Designer YuKwang Kang took this action and turned it into an MP3 player. It’s the aptly named “Walnut Player” to the rescue! Spin me some music!

When Colors Speak For Kids

When Colors Speak For Kids

Feelor Touch the Color is a color pencil set that comes with a specialized character-form on the head. It’s intended as a teaching aid for blind, preschool children, who are able to grasp concepts of shapes better than mere words or Braille. For example, if they are to color their page a particular color say red; they pull out a pencil with the head shaped as an apple, because apples are red. Likewise a chic stands for yellow, clover for green, and so on…
