A Guitarist Must Have

A Guitarist Must Have

The PIK stool combines the joy of playing music with the elegance and comfort of modern furniture design. Targeted specifically at acoustic guitar players, the aim was to design a guitar amp that captures the essence of acoustic playing environments. Aesthetically, the stool allows viewers of the performance to focus solely on the musician without being distracted by other clutter on stage! Check out the vid for the full experience!

Even a Toilet Can Be Cute

Even a Toilet Can Be Cute

Old-school “water-closets” (those toilets with the reservoir mounted on the wall, suspended above the bowl) use gravity to force water into the bowl. While effective, they aren’t around much anymore because of the huge amount of space they require. The satirically-named Element Water Closet  applies entirely different physics to achieve the same amount of flushing power but with less water and while occupying even smaller space than conventional bowl toilets.  See how it works—>

More than just a bucket...

More than just a bucket…

In a surprising merging of products, the Solar Energy Bucket serves as a multifunctional tool for anyone who likes to rough it. At first glance it appears to be a simple water bucket, but turn it upside down and you’ll see a small solar panel which harnesses the sun’s energy during the day. The stored energy can then be used to power the built-in light or even gently heat the water. Peculiar… but genius!

iNipple!

iNipple!

… and iEgg, and iCam! Together they form the Bo-Bi Baby Monitor System- the total package when it comes to watching little ones from a distance. i-Nipple is a pacifier that also detects temperature changes, instantly relaying information to i-Egg which notifies parents. The i-Cam works as an HD camera for monitoring and taking pictures/recording videos. Control each with the i-Egg or your mobile device, both of which have a straightforward, friendly user interface.

Distil Union's Wally Case Review

Distil Union’s Wally Case Review

We’re a big fan of Distil Union’s products and the Wally Case is no exception. Though it’s a Kickstarter project, I have no doubt they’ll reach their funding goals because this case is gorgeous. Made from premium leather attached to a thin plastic case for that shiny new iPhone 5s. The idea is to simplify your wallet. Slim that bad boy down to just three cards – your I.D., a debit card, and a public transit card. There’s enough tension to prevent your goodies from slipping out. There’s an integrated pull-tab to release the cards from their pocket. DO WANT!

The light at the end of the tunnel.

The light at the end of the tunnel.

Glow is a low-cost, low-maintenance, and low-tech solution for providing efficient, effective lighting to the developing world. The device uses phosphorescent (glow-in-the-dark) powder, which absorbs environmental light and slowly releases it when dark. Modern phosphorescent powder has a lifespan of up to 10 years and a glow that can last up to 6 hours! UV light isn’t even required to power the glow!

Shell to Dwell

Shell to Dwell

Jerusalem is known for its vertical communities that climb from hillside to hillside. This proposal for the area applies the modernist concept developed in the Bauhaus school in Germany in the 1930′s which is based on five principles, including separation of the walls from the building frame to create a free standing shell. Here the traditional constructive elements become a camouflage for the building frame rather than a part of the structural frame of the building. Take a tour after the jump —>

Best Bluetooth Speaker Under $70?

Best Bluetooth Speaker Under $70?

Is this the best bluetooth speaker for under $70? I’ve tried many portable speakers and man, they’ve come a long away. They’re loud, bassy, and generally distortion free. The good ones all cost $100+ so when Soundfreaq sent me the Sound Spot to try out, I was a little skeptical. However, I am familiar with the company as I’ve tried their original Sound Platform speaker before and came away quite impressed. So what do I look for in small, compact bluetooth speaker? It has to look good, sound good, and painless to pair. Hit the jump for my review.

From Wine to Light

From Wine to Light

Nearly 200,000 wine barrels are retired each year in California. Although some end up as planters or firewood, many are destined for landfills. Designer Dale Rorabaugh decided to do something about that. His team rescues wine barrels from wineries that simply don’t have the space to keep them any longer. To give them new life, they repurpose the material into a practical, artistic table lamp each with an expressive and unique history.

A Lumberjack's Wet Dream

A Lumberjack’s Wet Dream

One of my personal favs, Duffy London, explores macabre-chic with the latest additional to the Grimm Collection: the Woodsman Axe Table. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood,” the design fits USA-made hickory axes to a solid wood top available in walnut, oak or ash. Sure to be a conversation starter, the clever construction tells a story all its own! Perfect for the cozy cabin or your man cave.
