Futuristic Folded Furniture

Futuristic Folded Furniture

Foldone is an ultramodern design that skews the viewer’s perception of movement with folded surfaces and irregular geometries reminiscent of a stealth fighter. The angular folds are not only structurally significant in making the piece sturdy, but also create a visual continuity that encourages the eye to trace the length of the seamless form.

Ambidextrous Chair

Ambidextrous Chair

If the name alone wasn’t a tip-off, just one look at the Kandinsky Chair would suggest that its striking form was inspired by the father of pure abstract painting, Wassily Kandinsky. The playful design plays with the user’s perception using altered points, line forms and most obviously a striking, mirrored reversal of the legs. Looks like something straight out of a Dr. Seuss book! Do want!

12 Inspirational and Exclusive Interviews on Yanko Design – Dr. Prof. Peter Zec (Part I)

12 Inspirational and Exclusive Interviews on Yanko Design – Dr. Prof. Peter Zec (Part I)

I had the good fortune to spend a good hour with Dr. Prof. Peter Zec at the red dot design museum in Essen. Over a good cup of coffee and exceptional pastries, we spoke about how designers today are dealing with the increasing global awareness of Product Design. For those who don’t know Peter Zec is a former Icsid president and today holds the rank of Icsid senator. He is also the president of the red dot GmbH & Co. KG.

Back-To-Back Camera

Back-To-Back Camera

If you think one point-and-shoot is a shutterbug enough, imagine handling two of them at the same time! This is not the first time I am seeing designers dabble with the thought of having two cameras married into one, so that the user can capture two different views at one go. I guess this takes panorama pictures a step ahead. Maybe marry it with some 3-D augmentation and we have a deal! Canon, are you listening?

Lighting Gone Green

Lighting Gone Green

The latest in a trend of plant lamps (or as I like to call them “plamps”), the Green Lamp features a lattice shade and neck that stems directly out of a soil pot. Plant your favorite vine and watch it creep up to create an organic leaf shade you can trim yourself. A little shabby chic but I kinda love it. Bet you never thought your lamp would need sun!

Hot Drop Speakers

Hot Drop Speakers

Inspired by the moment when a droplet hits water to create a ripple effect, designer Vincent Säll saw a connection between this visible phenomenon & sound waves – the result being the Drop the Beat speakers. Deep huh?! The ceiling-mounted design provides unrestrained, multidirectional sound that resonates through a natural cone shape within a cylindrical body. Designed with a touch of Scandinavian minimalism, they’re not instantly recognizable as speakers, giving them a bit of mystery until crystal clear audio is heard.

Dehumidifier Planter Pyramid

Dehumidifier Planter Pyramid

All it takes is a quick image search to find out just how UGLY dehumidifiers are. For whatever reason, they’re just one of those objects that haven’t gotten around to being aesthetically in check. This concept aims to make the device less offensive by redesigning the shape into a unique pyramid shape that not only collects water, but distributes it to the soil in an integrated planter. It’s a nice looking, modern and multifunctional alternative to those outdated designs.

Enhancing Mobility

Enhancing Mobility

The Fractal Machine was designed to help those with mobile disabilities participate in anaerobic and aerobic exercises as well as those who have a need to rapidly adapt to using a wheelchair. Attachable to almost any standard wheelchair, the unit offers resistance training that focuses on work muscles in the upper body to condition and build the muscles that are used most often. It’s a great fitness solution for athletes and casual users alike.

The Tor of Pizza

The Tor of Pizza

It takes to be on the other side of the fence to understand the importance of piping hot food. I work from home so I never have to face the challenge of eating a rubbery pizza just because it went cold during lunch delivery. Maybe this is why the Tower Food Warmer focuses on meals like pizza along with healthy options like salad for keeping warm and fresh. The design takes into consideration a clever locking system so that the food compartments don’t open hastily and thus create a mess.

Close, But Not What You Might Think

Close, But Not What You Might Think

Folderfolder takes inspiration from the universally recognizable symbol of organization, the file folder. While most folders are made of dispensable stock paper, the design stands out in leather with an elegant stitch border, indicating its special use. It opens to reveal blank note pages and a nifty pocket for storing other documents and also features an open loop at the tab for keeping a pen handy. It’s easy to refill and durable enough that you’ll keep it forever.

Furniture for Plants

Furniture for Plants

The inspiration behind the O furniture series came from our human tendency to sporadically place plants and pots at home and was crafted with a top surface perfect for containing these plants. The shallow, sunken top is lined with handcrafted ceramic vessels of different size, balancing and softening the rigid geometry of the console and credenza. Maybe you’re not a fan of indoor plants- the unique structure offers an unusual way of storing a multitude of items from books to knick knacks.

The Computer Phone Is Here

The Computer Phone Is Here

What I like about the TPM VIPNI Concept P.C.P. Professional Computer Phone is that the concept is not ‘inspired’ by any existing design. Moreover it features components and aspects that are envisioned with existing and available technologies. Essentially this means you can build this powerhouse of a Pocket Computer Phone, right away!
