75 Indulgent Knots

The Gran-Tender 72′ Powermachine by the yacht-masters at KEYFRAMESTUDIO is a redesign of the speed world record holder, the Viareggio-Izmir. The GT72 combines luxury and comfort with speed and power, making it the ultimate entertainment vessel. The sporty exterior is fit with specialized seats that allow guests to experience the craft’s extreme speed, but inside is a lavish salon, dining room, guest suites and a large master cabin.

Believe It or Not, It's a Watch

Believe It or Not, It’s a Watch

Named and shaped after the constellation Cassiopeia, this artistic watch design uses a series of zig-zagged multicolored LEDs for a surprising yet intuitive way of displaying time. To tell the time, simply count up the lights for each digit. Purple light designates double digit hours, blue designates single digit hours, and pink/red represent minutes in single and double digits respectively. Better work on your math skills if you want to sport this one!

Putting the Year Together

Putting the Year Together

Dia is a clever twist on the calendar that provides an interactive and fun way to interpret passing time. The system is based on 366 (one extra for leap years) modified puzzle pieces that can link to any neighboring piece, allowing you to create a visual expression of how YOU see the year! It won’t help keep track of daily tasks, but after it’s completed it can be kept as a framed keepsake to reflect on years passed.

Ten Innovative Award Winning Concepts at A' Design Awards

Ten Innovative Award Winning Concepts at A’ Design Awards

Innovation is a very relative term and can resonate differently to people. One of the definitions I learnt was that innovations should be something new; should generate curiosity and debate; and lastly should be doable. Barring the doable criteria, I guess most of what is defined is true. When we chart the course of the A’ Design Awards, we see some really innovative concepts showcased that have generated enough traction to warrant a conversation.

Smile Please!

Smile Please!

There is a growing trend in concept cameras to include simple gestures to control its functions. We first saw this with the Air Clicker Camera and now it’s surfaced once again with the Take Frame. The idea here is to ‘crop’ the picture you want to click using the two crop tools, just like how you would use your thumb and forefinger. Interesting the way this industry is innovating.

Harry Potter’s New Broom

Harry Potter’s New Broom

The Vacuun Cleaner is an unconventional vacuum cleaner that serenades as a broom. The sweeping and cleaning motions while using this appliance are ditto and make the task much easier than before. The small flexible tubes are designed to vacuum or clean corners where brooms find it difficult to reach. Made up of two parts the vacuum cleaner (broom) and charger (inspired by bucket) work in sync to clean up the house.

A Folding E-Bike at Last!

A Folding E-Bike at Last!

There are plenty of folding bikes out there, but what sets the Neo Volt apart from the rest is not one but TWO different ways to fold- not to mention, the fact that it’s ELECTRIC! The ingenious, patented frame can fold into a sliver of its original size for easy transition from public transportation to the road, or it can twist into an even smaller, ultra-compact figure that’s easily stow-able in the trunk of a car. No need to worry about wires, the battery and drivetrain are 100% integrated into the frame!

Easing the Diabetic Burden

Easing the Diabetic Burden

The life of a diabetic involves an exhaustive number of components for monitoring blood glucose levels. The Cactus (hehe) concept combines all the necessities into one compact unit that fits perfectly into the modern lifestyle. One end measures glucose levels and the other injects the insulin amount automatically gauged from the first read. Wireless syncing to smart phones or tablets make it a dream-come-true for doctors and patients, making it possible to record and analyze results in less than half the time. Check out the vid!

Outshine The Competition With The Perfect Website

Outshine The Competition With The Perfect Website

We have been through thousands of project submissions and trust us when we say this, first impressions are the last! What we mean is that many designers are very nonchalant about their websites and often host projects on generic sites. Whether you are an individual designer or a design firm, you must have your basics covered and the first step is building an online presence through commanding website. This is where Squarespace comes in.

The Daily News

The Daily News

With the advent of e-readers and tablets, the way we consume newspapers has changed drastically. To keep up with the trend is the Eco-newspaper, a projector device that projects the daily news to the table countertop while you flip through your favorite paper. The idea is not only to use technology to its best advantage, but also to cut down on the newspaper waste and conservation. Digital reading is here to stay, so I guess traditionalist will have to adopt it one day!

Power Wash

Power Wash

The DualWash reminds me of the Electrolux Design Lab concept Bifoliate Double Dishwasher. The idea is similar, to have a wall mounted dishwasher that doubles up as a storage cabinet. However the DualWash features some newer innovations. This two sided dishwasher uses carbon-dioxide cleaning rather than water-based cleaning.

Refreshing with Algae

Refreshing with Algae

This exploration into the future of oxygen production is a green twist on the oxygen bar that incorporates high-yielding, oxygen-producing algae into a sauna-like structure. Designed for public spaces, Chlorella users can take a quick breather inside and enjoy the healing and relaxing effects. When not in use, it keeps working, contributing oxygen to the external environment.
