Frozen Fishes In Ice

Frozen Fishes In Ice

I love the illusion that the Ice Cube tank proposes; imagine the stunned expressions when people discover that the cube is an ice deception and that your fishes are swimming in safe waters. A clever perception and very Fred ‘n Friends kinda design; got to hand it to Arthur for making us look at the lighter side of life!

Nooka With A ZIG

Nooka With A ZIG

Besides its stunning geometric looks, the Nooka ZIG has one of the most practical elements that this digital era requires. The concept is the perfect marriage of a digital watch with USB, redefining portability and interaction. While the designer aspires to bring back the physical human interaction that is often lost with technology, I think the watch just takes us a step closer to the surreal world.

Stalactites of Light

Stalactites of Light

The Stalasso pendant lamp was inspired by one of nature’s own art forms, the stalactite dripstone. The elegant form captures the essence of the naturally occurring contrast of water as it drips from the tip of the mineral deposit. It’s versatile as a single hanging “drop” of light, an ambience-inspiring cluster, or an expansive arrangement across large spaces.

Go Nuts!

Go Nuts!

The ZGRYZ (Polish for “bite”) nutcracker uses a geared lever mechanism to swiftly crush even the hardest nut shells without requiring a herculean effort. The jaws of this heavy-duty tool crack everything from almonds to walnuts, all while giving the user complete control of force to protect the precious meat inside. It’s efficient, compact, and ergonomically enhanced for hands of any age, size, or dominance.

The Ultimate Hipster Headphones

The Ultimate Hipster Headphones

The Low Fi Hi Tech Headphones are an exploration into building a pair of fully functional headphones without any line-produced part. Composed of just wire, tape, solder, magnets and a few 3D printed parts, the design is surprisingly not rickety and the sound quality is nice against all expectations. In a sense, it’s lo-fi in both audio and material quality! —Want to print your own? Designer JC Karich’s 3D printing files are available here!

No Wet Blankets Allowed

No Wet Blankets Allowed

Make that towels! This is becuase we have the Dry Clean, a very capable towel drier that not only dries towels but also disinfects them. The device uses a miniature turbine to direct hot air towards the towels and maintains the temperature to allow for easy drying. An ultraviolet (UV) light disinfects the towel and keeps them fresh and fluffy. On a daily basis this may seem as an extravagance but think of cold and wet seasons, plus hotels where uneccesary laundry can be cut.

Retro Analogue Photography In Digital Era

Retro Analogue Photography In Digital Era

When they were asked to rethink the camera by BBC Future, the designers at Conran and Partners were clear that they wanted to set about reimagining every aspect, from the form factor to the technology inside. The result is this new-age hybrid that has a gaping hole replacing the camera lens and no digital viewfinder to check out the images clicked. In a very spunky way, the concept transports us back to that era when rushing to the darkroom with the camera roll used to be so much of fun.

Kick your computer to the curb!

Kick your computer to the curb!

Keep your computer cool with Curb- a simple, minimal desktop bar designed to elevate laptops for increased airflow and reduced internal and ambient heat. The scalene triangle shape allows for two different degrees of elevation depending on the preference of the user. A small cutout tidies the power cord and also serves as a stopper for loose cables. In colorful TPE/silicon, it’s anti-slip, soft, and durable enough to throw in your laptop bag.

Amphibious Prosthesis

Amphibious Prosthesis

It’s easy to take for granted little things like running on the beach & swimming. Murr-ma is a specialized prosthesis that extends these experiences to amputees or those with mobile disability. Inspired by the dorsal fin of the sailfish, the fins channel the water flow alongside the carbon fiber backbone & out at the sides, providing the wearer with the necessary thrust to move through the water. The split toe design also makes it possible to easily transition from sand to surf.

A Swiss Army Knife of a Table

A Swiss Army Knife of a Table

D*Haus’ D*Table is a functional 3D puzzle inspired by the Haberdashers Formula! Discovered by English mathematician Dudeney in 1903, it turns a perfect square into an equilateral triangle by dissecting the square into four distinct shapes. Dudeney’s achievement lay dormant in mathematical textbooks for over 100 years, but when applied to modern design, the possibilities are endless! Functionally flexible, this coffee table adapts to any space while encouraging play and user interaction.

Accommodating Strip

Accommodating Strip

You can only understand the value of a good power strip when you own too many devices. I am literally joined to the hip with my iPad, iPhone and camera on any given day. So a good power strip that can accommodate the various charger heads is a welcome design. The Modular Power Strip Concept is a step in this direction and I think someone should make it now!

Bright and Buzzworthy

Bright and Buzzworthy

The insect-inspired Swarm lighting series introduces playful illumination in the form of clustered, wasp-shaped pendants that feel like a colony suspended in motion! With distinct Scandinavian design quality, their simple composition of glass, metal, and elegant woodcraft hearkens back to a simpler time when the creative process was just as important as the end product.
