Home Sweet Cube 2.0

Home Sweet Cube 2.0

We recently featured Justin Chong’s charming, super-minimal Cube home… well he’s back with an alternative version that reworks the usable space to accommodate more storage, sleeping room, a full bathroom and even a laundry area fit with a compact clothes washer/dryer combo! The other design was a lil dark so the most significant addition is built-in, ultra-thin LED lighting accents in inconspicuous places like under the stairs or kitchen shelving.

Bambootiful

Bambootiful

Designed from highly sustainable bamboo, the Lock table’s shape is formed by taking advantage of the material’s natural bending curve. The layers of bamboo become intertwined at the center, locking in place to form a secure and aesthetically intriguing base. Nature and geometry come together to create a dynamic shape that is beautiful, functional and environmentally conscious!

3D Food Printing?!

3D Food Printing?!

The 3d printing industry has been transformed from a handful of manufacturers producing costly machines, to hundreds of individuals creating their own machines and sharing the instructions on how to make them. The incredible accessibility to this technology has the potential to affect many aspects of our daily lives, including how we think about food. What if instead of street hot dog stands we had 3D food printer carts?! This twist on the classic food cart sheds light on the future of this awesome tech.

Mujjo Sleeves Up For The iPad mini

Mujjo Sleeves Up For The iPad mini

Those Dutchies are fast. Just the other week I told them they needed to make iPad mini sleeves. I’m not saying they listened to me but as I sit here writing this post on an iPad mini, I can’t help but grin because Mujjo just announced the Originals sleeve collection for the iPad mini. Hear that? That’s the sound of 10,000 Steve Jobs booming in exclamation. They come in either brown or white made from the same supple leather and felt Mujjo is known for. Holiday gifting idea? Buy me one too while you’re at it – your devoted editor at YD.

Silicone Bathroom Goodies

Silicone Bathroom Goodies

Oh snap, Kontextu’r and designer Josh Owen came up with bathroom accessories that are fun while err’ing on the side of sophistication. Fantastic job because I want all of it. The Hanging Line consists of a wall-mountable towel/magazine holder, a toilet paper roll holder and specially designed hooks – all made from flexible and durable silicone.  The toilet paper holder uses a magnetic catch to quickly change rolls. I’m less excited about the mirrors but as a stand-a-lone piece, they could transform a bathroom from drab to hella fab.

Less is More Lighting

Less is More Lighting

This minimal upright lamp concept, called the LED Uplighter, takes inspiration from historic design icons like Star Trek’s Starship Enterprise and Citroën’s unique one-spoke steering wheel. The design features two powerful, separate LED lights, one facing up and one down, with separate dimming controls that allows for total control over the ambience by simply adjusting its two intuitive touch buttons. Reduction in form, but not in functionality!

Plumen x Boskke and I Missed It!

Plumen x Boskke and I Missed It!

What the hell man! How did I miss the Plumen x Boskke Chandelier during London Design week way back in September? I must have hit one too many cups of NyQuil because I should have been there. The pictures from the London Shoreditch Station look so damn cool. Seriously, I want a coffee shop or tea shop equipped with free wifi, comfy seating, and these chandeliers. I also just found out these are the smaller and uber cute mini Plumen bulbs. MUST HAVE AND DO WANT! Did any of you see it in person?

Kokeshi Inspired Lamp

Kokeshi Inspired Lamp

My recent trip to Japan re-energized my creative energies. The land of the rising sun epitomizes the dichotomy of the kind of design I favor; the whimsical and minimal. The clean design aesthetic you normally associate with Scandinavia is mixed with tradition in a way that’s uniquely Japanese. The Doll lamp by Foscarini reminds me of this confluence. Inspired by Japanese kokeshi dolls, the Doll lamp is minimalist in the strictest sense besides coming in four colors (red, green, ivory, grey). The kind of whimsical minimalism I was talking about.

Contact Case from Heaven

Contact Case from Heaven

If you’re like me & cursed with bad vision, then you know how irritating it can be to constantly deal with your contacts. You gotta have the solution, the case, the glasses… KILLING! The Lens Safe case offers a little relief by combining all of the necessary elements into one compact unit (in a variety of colors!) that’s more stylish and functional than the boring medical style cases.  Solution is stored between the R and L lens containers so you’re never left dry!
