Windows 8 and Nokia’s Love

Windows 8 and Nokia’s Love

Its been a while since an awe-inspiring concept phone crossed our path, so humor me if you will, and have a peek at what the Nokia Lumia 1080 Concept Phone has to offer. The phone is inspired by the 5-inch plastic OLED display that features Full HD Resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). Future-proof, the concept believes in wearable technology hence the use of a flexible display.

Retro-futuristic Lowrider

Retro-futuristic Lowrider

Steam-O is a modern cruiser that takes inspiration from the iconic steam locomotives of the past, applying the signature aerodynamic shape to its stark frame. In classic 1930s style, the bike sports a leather seat with spring suspension, an oversized headlight with chrome and bronze polish, and choo-choo style rims. The main feature, however, is a pushrod drivetrain like that of locomotives from the time. This unique power system and distinct attention to detail set it apart from other cruisers new and old.

Hear Clear and Healthily

Hear Clear and Healthily

One problem with conventional hearing aids is their tendency to cause infection and ear drum damage from moisture, as well as feedback if not properly placed in the ear. To alleviate these issues, this updated hearing aid design features directional speakers that leave the canal exposed so the ear can “breathe.” Because it’s directional, sound doesn’t return to the microphone and cause feedback. Better yet, no mold is required as it clips on the ear and can be adjusted accordingly.

One small step for man...

One small step for man…

Taking one giant leap for mankind, the XGV-A “Orbiter” represents the future of space exploration systems.  An alternative to today’s rocket launches, the Orbiter sends astronauts or other payloads into space from a low orbit, facilitating and increasing launches and minimizing environmental risk. Virtually a massive, unmanned aircraft, the Orbiter boasts two giant wings and rear flaps equipped with five oversized Ultra-High Bypass turbofan engines. In other words – a big, powerful thrust range.

This Cup Has A Ring To It

This Cup Has A Ring To It

In an attempt to make life simpler for those with sight disabilities, designer Soon-sik Choi offers an effortless solution to the task of filling a cup. When the cup is almost full the handle makes a distinct ‘ring’ sound. The audio cue of the Xylophone Cup is a good enough warning for the user to know that the cup is almost to the brim and to stop pouring more liquid.

Mightier than the sword...

Mightier than the sword…

Practical from any angle, the All In One Pen can act as a ruler, compass, protractor, and, of course, a pen. The sleek, simple metallic exterior defies writing utensil conventions when you detach the inner pen point from its casing, making it two, multi-purpose tools connected at the base. With the built in LCD screen, you can read angles, distances, and radii. Do more than cross your “t”‘s and dot your “i”s with the All In One Pen.

Google Reader Is Dead, Long Live RSS

There is no time to shed tears over the demise of Google Reader; many of you have probably migrated to another stable RSS Reader. This post is a quick shout-out to all our Yanko Design fans that have been busy with stuff, now is a good time to drop all things and quickly transfer ALL your lists and feeds (including Yanko Design) from Google Reader, before they shut doors permanently. We think readers like Feedly are great. They offer easy migration and can automatically transfer all of your feeds for you.

Scan the World in Seconds

Scan the World in Seconds

No matter which way you slice it, scanning paper documents into digital files is a pain in the butt! To help us transition to a paperless world, the INBOX combination scanner, storage box and app-based interface provide a simple way to manage documents. Smaller (and way better looking) than your average scanner, the user simply places their photos or papers through the feed and the digital file is automatically and wirelessly transferred to your device! See the vid to see it in action!

Big Bulges Are Out, Try The Capsule Minimalist Wallet

Big Bulges Are Out, Try The Capsule Minimalist Wallet

The Minimalist slim leather wallet came to my attention through a successful Kickstarter campaign funded in 2012. Fast-forward to the present and all you people with unsightly pocket bulges need to get on the bandwagon and slim down. It may not be for everyone but if you think about it, all you need is your ID, maybe some cash, and one or two frequently used cards. I’ve been living with mine for a few months and don’t miss my traditional wallet at all.

New Meaning To Face Recognition

New Meaning To Face Recognition

The convinece of face recognition is evident in photography and social sites where people are automatically tagged. Extending this concept to telephones, the Elderly E Phone uses image recognition rather than a keypad for the entering of phone numbers. It is aimed at the silver generation, who have a hard time dialing or remembering numbers.
