Inline skating has its merits as a true competitive sport but what’s the next step? What’s the next level? Designer Tay Kian Khuan believes it’s his 720 Skates. Designed for pro competitions, they may look like any other inline skates but the wheels are set on independently rotating gears instead of an inline track.

I really like this wheelchair design by Wai Lam. Made from form molded materials, the silhouette looks like a person sitting down. Wai Lam lights to make light of what many people view as detrimental by infusing a bit of humor into his designs. He also wanted to create something more organic and pleasing to the eye, not the usual chaos of metal clinging to the body. I’d say he did a good job.

This artsy design project by Seung-Jin Lee calls for a series of tubes embedded with LEDS floating right on the water’s surface. A computer controller experience then creates magical patterns of light. Okay, somebody like Bjork or Radiohead or Daft Punk needs to get on this ASAP. I can imagine amazing future concerts utilizing this technology.

This guest post on Urban Croquet is by designer Alice Kaiserswerth. When John Jaques made croquet an overnight craze in England 150 years ago, he packaged a game that fit perfectly into the physical and social spaces of the mid 19th Century - casual, fun, social, and played in the spacious gardens of the gentry or any clearing sufficient to install hoops and stakes. The free-wheeling spirit of those formative days of croquet is gone forever. Or is it?

If I hang a birdfeeder, I want to see birds using it. This double sided birdfeeder designed by Sofie Collin makes both the birds and voyeuristic humans happy. On the veneered side, multiple perches allow any tiny bird to sit and snack on the hanging sack of seeds.

Here’s a great way to get kids involved with cleaning up the beach. This toy octopus is missing his 8 legs. You’re supposed to find plastic bottles and screw them on to become his legs. Once you get all 8, he’ll be buoyant enough to float.

With too much time on your hands and not a single ice skating rink for 100 miles, you have to resort to alternatives. These ice skates don’t need an icy surface because they actually frozen ice blocks strapped to your feet. Just find any smooth surface and you’re good to go.
