Instant Blossom was designed to simulate a real flower vase. A perfect gift to give that doesn’t require a lot of maintenance or a design to simply add life to an empty space in the home. Creating multi-dimensional space out of a flat compact package, simply by opening the package and spraying water onto the hydroponic flowers, you have an instant flower filled “vase”. When the package is left unfolded, it simulates a nice bouquet of flowers.

Just like people, plants fall over when they begin to die from thirst but unlike people, plants can’t verbally communicate when they need watering. That’s where the Roly-Poly Pot comes in. Using water a a counterweight, the pot slowly tips over when water levels are low. The cool thing is each pot can be adjusted to work with any plant’s watering needs. Neat idea but still a concept for now.

Whenever the weather change the landscape transforms, the light becomes different and the whole atmosphere changes. All materials seem to alter. In my project I explore the possibilities for hidden design appearing as the environment changes. I applied techniques to enduring and solid materials as glass and concrete, so that natural processes like differences in temperature causing condense reveal patterns on windows.

Walden. Or, Life in the woods’ is the name of a story from the American writer and philosopher Henry David Thoreau, written in the mid 19th century, which describes his life and his relationship with nature. The concept of simple life influenced the garden-project from Nils Holger Moormann, which invites one to live outdoors.

While some designers aim to shock just for the sake of it, others are sensitively attempting to solve problems related to issues that were once considered taboo. “Death is taboo - in fact it is one of the last taboos in Western society,” says Nadine Jarvis, one of many designers exploring issues such as cremation and burial.

The Hose Wheel solves problems of storage, maintenance and use that occur with common garden hose reel storage products. This all-in-one unit allows the user to unroll and rewind the garden hose without having to pull or touch the hose. The unit travels to point of use, thus avoiding kinks, tangles and dirty hands.

The RainDrop’s spherical design gives the sprinkler a tight turn radius, allowing it to follow any path of garden hose laid down by the user, winding around trees, flowers, lawn ornaments, etc. The plastic design keeps the products weight down while the centrally located counterweight lowers the sprinkler’s center of gravity, affording enough weight to keep traction on wet grass.

Droplet is an electric mulching lawnmower, addressing the issues of increasingly smaller lawn and storage spaces in Australian homes, and the negative user issues associated with gardening hardware. The droplet incorporates a unique raising and lowering mechanism alongside an unconventional wheel design, resulting in a new interpretation of a typically dull machine.
