Did you notice the sudden retro wave that’s hit most ID designers? It’s like they’ve gone nostalgic and strung an emotional cord with gadgets from the past. The Philco PC here is a prime example of such inspirations, totally reminiscent of the 1954 design classic Philco Predicta! Indulge in it for the aesthetic value, as for the specs…yea it does host Windows 7. But then again we’re here for the love of design, specs can take a hike for the moment!

Skate Shortens Your Commute, Possibly Life Span

There are certain gadgets that are simply too cool not to do something dangerous with. Case in point, “Skate” from Matteo Gentile adds an electric motor to a stripped down hybrid of a skateboard and snowboard bindings, creating something altogether different, dangerous and cool. Ostensibly created for regular transport and short commutes, I think we all know what was going through Matteo’s mind when he sketched this bad boy out.

As you can imagine, we here at Yanko Design see just about every type of design the creative mind can conjure. Most of us were not there during the birth of such monumental movements like Bauhaus, Art Nouveau or even Post Modernism. Maybe once in a lifetime we are lucky enough to be there at the genesis of a whole new design movement. Until that day arrives, we would like to take a moment to highlight some interesting sub-genres of design we have been admiring with delight. One in particular is the era inspired, fanboy based “Steampunk” movement.
