Libratone Loop Wireless Speaker Review

Libratone Loop Wireless Speaker Review

Acoustic bliss in an orgasmic sense. That’s the best way I can describe a speaker to you since you can’t hear it. Audio is totally subjective. My review is based on three basic points – how it looks, how it sounds, and how it compares. The Libratone Loop has already won almost every major design award in our industry so it stands to reason the accolades along with the $499 price tag means a really good speaker. TRANISM Episode 5: Click and Grow Smart Herb Garden

What started as a successful Kickstarter campaign is finally shipping and I got my hands on one. In this episode I set up the Click and Grow Smart Herb Garden and discover it really is easy for anyone to grow their own herbs at home. Each Smart Herb Garden comes with cartridges for basil, thyme and lemon balm. Future cartridges will be available for chili pepper, mini tomato and I’m crossing my fingers for berries! Oh I also participate in #whaling. You won’t believe it!

Yanko Design Top 50 - Best of 2013

Yanko Design Top 50 – Best of 2013

If we reflect upon the trends predicted for 2013, then some of the prophecies have come true. For example, Contextual Design is no longer a buzzword and neither is it just restricted to user application. With research tools at their easy disposal, a consumer is no longer taken in by marketing ploys. Authenticity in the design, value, emotional context and above all simplicity; designs that reflect these core ethics have made their place in the free market.

Rocket Science and Dash

Rocket Science and Dash

It is rocket science and it is earthshattering and YES it is innovative engineering. Ha! I have always wanted to say these lines to the skeptics out there who tend to crush form and function kinda ideas. For the Dash7 Pocket-sized Portable Wireless Soundbar by Soundmatters it took the creative genius of nuclear physics, astronomy, physical chemistry graduate and NASA Project Manager – Dr. Godehard Guenther! Bottomline: with the Dash7 Soundbar, you are assured superior sound quality teamed with Good Design.

When Sound Met Style - Wood Earphones and Headphones by Meze

When Sound Met Style – Wood Earphones and Headphones by Meze

One of the reasons why I love what I do is reporting on stories that start from humble roots and grow on to immense fame. One such story is that of Romanian designer of Antonio Meze. The idea of designing classy earphones aside, his vision of creating a meaningful product that can be passed down to generations, has completely resonated with me. With launch of his brand’s new Meze 11 DECO Earbuds around the bend (8th December), I managed to get us a sneak peek, and of course chatted him up for some interesting bytes.

Bruce Lee And His Cards

Bruce Lee And His Cards

“The meaning of life is that it has to be lived.” How true! And full marks for guessing the author of this quote – Bruce Lee. Known as the most influential martial-arts artists of all time, Lee was single-handedly responsible for breaking the stereotype of Asians in Hollywood movies. Commemorating his 73rd birthday today, the visionaries in the art of magic and cardistry, Dan and Dave, are out with a dedicated Bruce Lee Playing Cards Deck. All the cards feature an inspiring Bruce Lee quote, except for the Aces.

Distil Union's Wally Case Review

Distil Union’s Wally Case Review

We’re a big fan of Distil Union’s products and the Wally Case is no exception. Though it’s a Kickstarter project, I have no doubt they’ll reach their funding goals because this case is gorgeous. Made from premium leather attached to a thin plastic case for that shiny new iPhone 5s. The idea is to simplify your wallet. Slim that bad boy down to just three cards – your I.D., a debit card, and a public transit card. There’s enough tension to prevent your goodies from slipping out. There’s an integrated pull-tab to release the cards from their pocket. DO WANT!

Best Bluetooth Speaker Under $70?

Best Bluetooth Speaker Under $70?

Is this the best bluetooth speaker for under $70? I’ve tried many portable speakers and man, they’ve come a long away. They’re loud, bassy, and generally distortion free. The good ones all cost $100+ so when Soundfreaq sent me the Sound Spot to try out, I was a little skeptical. However, I am familiar with the company as I’ve tried their original Sound Platform speaker before and came away quite impressed. So what do I look for in small, compact bluetooth speaker? It has to look good, sound good, and painless to pair. Hit the jump for my review.

321 Water Filtering Bottle Review

321 Water Filtering Bottle Review

Some months ago I was sent a 321 Water bottle with a note from one of YD’s staff – “this was in the Hunger Games movie!” And it’s true. The bottle was featured in the control room scene of said movie so I thought hey, if it’s good enough for those dystopian dictators with amazing fashion sense, then it’s good enough for me. Obsessed with the Philips Sonicare Airfloss

Obsessed with the Philips Sonicare Airfloss

Let me put it on out there. I hate flossing. Winding a piece of string and forcing it through the most sensitive regions between my teeth seems incredibly archaic. It may be effective, but very crude. I don’t care how many dentists tell me it’s “normal” to experience some bleeding. I’m sorry, it is NOT normal to bleed. And that brings me to one of my favorite gadgets this year, a new way to floss using nothing but air and a bit of liquid. I’m totally obsessed!

Perfect Workspace: simplehuman

Perfect Workspace: simplehuman

In early January, we embarked on a ambitious project to remake an entire office into an environment conducive to collaboration, brain storming, and most importantly fun. Every aspect was considered and with a tiny budget, started planning with the one item often disregarded until the last minute. I’m talking the trash bin. Do you know how hard it is to find a good trash bin? In its simplest form, a trash bin is just a bucket in all shapes and sizes but we were looking for an engineered solution and who better than simplehuman.

In Talks With François Quentin – Designer Of The 4N Watch

4N is a French watch brand that creates timepieces, which are resolutely masculine and unapologetically cutting-edge. While they have an exclusive Limited Edition timepiece (last one of 16) up on TouchOf Modern, for a members-only price, we got the chance of catching up with designer François Quentin for a quick round of questions.

In Love With The Sonneman Quattro

In Love With The Sonneman Quattro

We’ve reviewed our share of LED task lamps but our latest procurement, the Sonneman Quattro, evokes a kind of playful spirit normally reserved for Luxo, the Pixar Lamp. The lamp is immaculately engineered. The aforementioned playful spirit comes from the retangular arm that articulates at multiple points. It freely rotates 90º at the base with two additional pivot points across the arm. Devoid of any discernable switches, the lamp is switched on by a feather’s touch above the LED plate. Tapping it multiple times cycles through 3 brightness settings.
