Though it might seem random, the Mess Lamp is actually a representation of the systematic “chaos” in the complicated geometric shapes of leaves. Starting from the top and moving downward, the “petals” are placed in a system similar to others found in nature, and perfectly camouflage the supporting structure and light source without totally obstructing the glow.

The delightful Lumo is based on the analogy of a traditional campfire. Tinly interactive pebbles flicker with light, mimicking the burning embers of logs. They gently fade out if you don’t play with them. Simon explains, “In the same way a fire requires fuel to sustain its illumination, the pebbles require collective nurturing from the group of users.”

The Snow Form Lamp by designer Young Kwang Cho was inspired by the unique way that snow collects as long ridges formed by the wind. Like the snowdrifts, the lamp has a soft, fluid aesthetic with gentle curves and sweeping lines. Simply push the top of the lamp down to activate the light.

A very close call on the illuminated incense sticks, the Callar wins grace for being the ideal representation of illuminated flower stems. A bunch of these would work wonders on any angry spouse or girlfriend, plus they’d make good mood lighting. The clever thing is that they are without wires and portable; they recharge via a base station. Warm and exuding love, I’d take home a bunch of these for next Valentines’!

Designed for Bep’s Car & Motorcycle Accessories, the B-Light is a modern twist on the street lamp that is instantly recognizable in “traffic red.” Formed from a single, laser-cut metal sheet, the design consists of a straight line that folds in on itself, like the sinuous lines of light obtained by photographing moving cars at night. With a bright LED light that’s parallel to the ground it also does its best to minimize light pollution.

Does anyone remember Armatron?! Designer Otto Polefko’s COG lamp instantly reminded me of one of my favorite childhood toys. The quirky design has a similar robotic aesthetic that was inspired by the designer’s hometown of Miskolc, Hungary, which used to be an industrial center in the 80s. The lamp is a blend of former and modern style trends, and is as functional as it is fun!

When you live in the city, it’s easy to lose touch of some of mother nature’s simple offerings like a breeze or wild plant life. Keeping in mind how these things can inspire appreciation of nature, the designers at Pensa created this unique lighting solution that mimics the shape and sway of water reeds. Powered by the water’s current, the Light Reeds provide a subtle, romantic glow to public areas while offering a deeper connection to the waterfront.

The Gas Lamp (which isn’t a gas lamp at all!) is a straightforward approach to the pendant that uses the iconic design of the propane gas tank as a shade. It’s a vivid reminder of the evolution of lighting that will compliment industrial and outdoor spaces alike.

The Lumpus is an adjustable modular table lamp with three LED modules located on the same axis. Crafted from anodized aluminum, each lamp rotates independently and switches-on, individually. Simple and minimal, the lamp is as elegant as a swan!

We’re all familiar with campfires, but here’s a clever twist on everyone’s favorite camping pastime. Introducing the LampFire! Composed of 3 independent “torches,” it was designed as a way for urban dwellers or beach lovers to enjoy a campfire-like glow from the comfort of the city. Separated, they can be used as flashlights until you reach your destination and combine them to create your LampFire! Now, if only it could roast marshmallows…

Free of excess, the stripped-down LOOP lamp offers a simple and unique way of directing light where you want it to go. LOOP’s electrical cables have additional functionality as they both suspend the lamp and allow the user to adjust the angle of the light. A clever, contemporary design that looks good both off and on!

The super modern-looking Slide Lamp is constructed from a single piece of machine-hallowed hardwood mounted on a cast aluminum base. The unorthodox construction also makes for very unique functionality- simply raise or lower the intuitive side lever to turn it on or off, or adjust the brightness!

I love a design that takes inspiration from a familiar fragment to stimulate the viewer’s memory and imagination. Lamp Fire is one of these creative concepts and is reminiscent of the campfires that many of us experienced as children. It’s a clever way of enjoying campfire conversations from the comfort of home!
