One of my biggest pet peeves is plastic water bottles. I can’t stand the water bottle culture that has been raging for years now. Everyone needing 24/7 “hydration” is just a bunch of pseudo-science hooey invented by water marketers. Sure water is essential for sustaining life, but do we really need to be spending so much money and landfill space on simple drinking water? RKS, designers of the MIMIQUE mobile phone concept have gotten together with KOR Water to address the issue of irresponsible water bottlers and consumers.

The Pullight Dynamo looks to be nothing more than a flashlight powered by stored kinetic energy built up from pulling a string. Inside the dynamo is a 3 phase motor to deliver more power from very little kinetic energy. What’s more, the dynamo can charge other devices like a mobile phone or iPod. It’s splash proof and perfect for emergency situations.

Somebody should have thought of this a long time ago because it’s brilliant. Seedling by Brett Duncan is a biodegradable pot you can layer into larger ones when the plant out grows it. It’s less mess since you don’t have to re-pot and less stress on the plant ensuring a healthy transition.

It’s got all the basic stuff we’ve come to expect from our mobiles; powerful 5 megapixel camera with built-in software for editing and uploading to a photo album, slide-out touch keyboard with tactile feedback, and a nice big touchscreen front and center. What makes this concept unique is parts of the phone are made from a chemically based thin solar skin to charge the battery when exposed to any kind of light.

Growing plants would be a lot easier if plants could express what it is they need from you. Fret not because that’s what the Pet Plant by Junyi Heo does. The very sleek looking pot measures soil conditions, temperature, humidity, and water – calculates those variables based on the need of said plant, and expresses its condition via a series of pictograms on an LCD display.

Put Those Power Hungry Applicances On A Timer

Even when electrical appliances are “turned off” they’re actually still drawing small amounts of energy. You’d be amazed how much energy is wasted in this low power state. JustDrawIt is sort of a home timer for anything that can be totally powered down without affecting functionality. Lamps, microwaves, toasters are some of the most common low power hogs. You have a visual queue as to how much time you have left until power down via a row of LED lights.

Daniel Schipper has come up with this “Folding Greenhouse” design for city dwellers that need to spread their botanical love. This light-weight, flexible and modular greenhouse is perfect for small spaces and unfolds faster than you can say origami. The Folding Greenhouse’s frameless folding construction is made entirely out of recyclable plastic. Making this the greenest green house we have seen so far.

The good folks at Suzuki are serious about going green and have been spotted testing their latest concept, the Suzuki Crosscage Hydrogen Fuel Cell Motorcycle. With no gears, no noise, no clutch and no emissions, this hydrogen fuel cell / electric hybrid two-wheeler just might be the future of motorcycles and is closer to reality than you might think. Seriously, there is a guy riding one in these pictures, you won’t hear it coming, but it is.

Your little schooner (aka; sailboat) sure is lovely for cruising the open waters and enjoying natures majesty. But did you realize that sailboats can be one of the worst offenders of the green movement? It’s true. With the amount of fiberglass, epoxy chemicals, high end woods and pretty much a ton of non-sustainable materials it takes to make one of these floating works of art, the only real way to recycle a boat is by sinking it and making it an artificial reef.

Design student Elliot Mariess needed to come up with something new and off kilter for his degree so naturally he envisioned any space should and could have an aromatic herb garden. This simple looking dresser is more than meets the eye – inside is a whole garden living off a low wattage bulb. Not only do you get fresh herbs, but it naturally filters the air, keeps stank off your clothes, and makes us all look like green thumbs.

Hey kids, are you a serial pop drinker? Sure recycling is good but lets say for some oddball reason you collect bottles. As long as the neck is a standard size, and you collect 16 of them, you can make yourself a little stool or table. Chairs & Toys is really for children but I know a few adults that would try and pass this off next to their Herman Miller furniture.

Split Bamboo is probably one of the most sustainable products we’ve seen in awhile. The entire manufacturing process consists of harvesting and scoring the ends of the bamboo stalk. While the stalk is still somewhat pliable – pressing in the ends creates a foot stand and loops; the perfect coat hanger.

I’m no green thumb, have never been good at growing plants, and the only thing that seems to stay alive is my cactus which by the way fights everyday against my dog. The Flower Nurse is an artificial potted plant by where flowers take on the form on information expressing its needs via color changes.
