That green bandwagon is speeding down the global highway at break neck speeds and corporations are rushing to hop on. That’s the good news… the other good news is that electronics giant Siemens is looking for ways to make bold and beautiful green statements with these cordless telephone designs.

Have you ever been to a junkyard? Looked out at the massive amounts of smashed up, metal frames of what used to be automobiles? When you looked out over the piles of junk, could you visualize a cute pair of earrings, or a stylish necklace? No? Well designer Adam Palethorpe could. His design concept is based on not just piles of scrap metal, but also on using outdated currency coins, recycled car headlights and other recyclable materials.

Got some junk in your trunk? Need a backpack with some extra back? Well let me ASSk you something. Would you be caught with your pants down without one of these “female form” inspired backpacks dubbed “The Peach” by Yen-Hsiang Skeet Wang? The designer felt it necessary to tell us that he is like totally into chicks see.. and that he thinks a girls “bum” is like really erotic.

There is a fun and efficient NewCar hitting the British city streets very soon. It’s called “MyCar” and it can be YourCar for a mere $18,000 USD. Nice… that’s the name of the car company putting out this hip little all-electric city run about. Designed by legendary designers Giugiaro of Italdesign and made in Hong Kong.
Have you noticed how fast dirty, crud, and general filth accumulates around your desk? It’s a dirt magnet I tells ya. The Personal Cleaner concept by Junyi Heo is just the ticket to cleaner and healthier living. It’s basically a bamboo inspired hand vac that will look right at home on your desk. It comes with a charging cradle and the first segment pivots for better reach-around sucking. Big deal right? Actually it’s filtering the air when in its upright charging position too. Clever clever.

Let’s face it, we all care about the environment but managing energy, water, and waste is a challenge in itself. The key is instilling eco-behavior as a part of our everyday routine. That’s where Paki the Hippo comes in.

I just saw the Pixar movie “Wall*E” the other evening and I will state for the record that it was amazing. In the film, our near future world has becomes unlivable due to mass consumption and no place to put our mountains of garbage. The hero of the film (Wall*E) is programmed to help clean up Earth and has labored for hundreds of years compacting trash and stacking into giant towers.

Lately Monsieur Starck has been taking a well deserved bitch slapping by us fun loving bloggers for his proclamation that “design is dead”. He quickly contradicted that notion with his recent announcement that he is launching a new reality TV series for the BBC all about the design process. Well P. Starcky you may have redeemed yourself just a bit with your latest “dead design” called ‘Democratic Ecology’.

Hey, Let me just say I give props to anyone out there thinking green and trying to make the world a better place through design. That being said, mad props to designer Shiu Yuk Yuen. She is out there fighting the good fight, and her latest design inspiration may be a bit of a mis-fire(in my opinion), but still deserves to be dissected, praised or criticized with the best of them.

You’ll find no iPhone touchscreen or 10 megapixel camera here. Nor will you find mirror finishes or a graphic interface spec’d for stunning video. What you WILL find is car tires, old PET bottles and pre loved soda cans.

One of my biggest pet peeves is plastic water bottles. I can’t stand the water bottle culture that has been raging for years now. Everyone needing 24/7 “hydration” is just a bunch of pseudo-science hooey invented by water marketers. Sure water is essential for sustaining life, but do we really need to be spending so much money and landfill space on simple drinking water? RKS, designers of the MIMIQUE mobile phone concept have gotten together with KOR Water to address the issue of irresponsible water bottlers and consumers.

The Pullight Dynamo looks to be nothing more than a flashlight powered by stored kinetic energy built up from pulling a string. Inside the dynamo is a 3 phase motor to deliver more power from very little kinetic energy. What’s more, the dynamo can charge other devices like a mobile phone or iPod. It’s splash proof and perfect for emergency situations.

Somebody should have thought of this a long time ago because it’s brilliant. Seedling by Brett Duncan is a biodegradable pot you can layer into larger ones when the plant out grows it. It’s less mess since you don’t have to re-pot and less stress on the plant ensuring a healthy transition.
