With dark notions like this looming ahead, it really makes me want to do good stuff now, this instant. Stuff like recycling paper and using it in many different forms. One such is the HangSavvy Eco-friendly Recycled Waste Paper Hangers. Stable enough to hold up to 10 kgs of weight and with the same lifespan as the normal steel or plastic hangers. Good quality, reasonable pricing and efficient packaging makes it a winner!

River Han winds its way through Seoul and poses a pretty picture. I’m sure a stroll along its banks will be pleasant and refreshing, but designer Kyung Kuk Kim (he’s a resident of Seoul) feels, Han can be beautified in a very inviting and eco-friendly way. He proposes the installation of Wind Lamps on the underbelly of the bridge, across the river. These vertical lamps are fitted with a specialized wind-harnessing generator that powers the LEDs within.

Besides powering the in-built LEDS, the generators collectively have enough capacity to source and power other street lamps and essentials on the bridge. I must say, it’s quite a neat idea that beautifies the city and doesn’t burden the resources.

Yes, it has struck again. It’s cardboard! And made and treated the way we’re talking about here, it’s chemical free, recycled, and recyclable! How is that for wrapping your arms around some bark? Included in this post are several designs, all designed by Ben Blanc Studio made exclusively for Cardboardesign, all ready to be slap-packed and picked up by you for you and yours.

So what have we got here?

Two count them two children’s fold up toys, one a shark, the other a television “puppetTV” inside which a child can pretend to be the worlds greatest action hero and television star: Mister Rogers. Or Captian Kangaroo. Don’t forget Spongebob. Ren and Stimpy not allowed.

Catscratchers made for all you hip kitties out there to sink your claws into. No seriously for cats only. If you are a cat and are reading this, please email me and we can be in touch. I want to talk to a cat that can read.

And finally, an amazing room divider. The room divider comes in a set of 50 pieces. Each piece is a die-cut shape that you can use to slot-connect your way to a new amazing wall in any dimension. Five thousand feet tall if you want.

No tools or hardware required for anything. Cardboard only!

Eco2 Widget is a mobile and desktop app to get your carbon eating habits under control. Sure you don’t gain weight from carbon but you do harm the Earth and we all agree – the Earth is in dire need of a carbon diet. Like all diets, it requires a lifestyle change. The Eco2 widget not only monitors carbon affluents between all your devices but also educations and recommends little things you could do to help Earth get slimmer cleaner. There’s even a reward system built-in for digital money and to plant trees.

A lamppost powered by trash seems like a strange idea but if you think about the ratio between city trash and energy needs – things start to make sense, kinda. This lamppost composts trash and uses the methane byproduct as a fuel to power the lamps. The compost can then be retrieved to re-green our cities. I like the idea but it’s not clear how much trash is needed to keep such a system going.

In an effort to battle the oncoming disaster that is the ever-decreasing clean water supply, Sarah Taiho’s created this bottle extraordinaire. It’s plastic with a special elastic rubber skin. When the skin is on, it acts as protection against outside elements, it keeps the dirtiness out, and the filtrated water in. How did that water get in there then? Once the skin is peeled off, it acts as the filtration system needed to fill the bottle up with cleanliness!

How do you beat the inexpensiveness of a 50 cent (or a dollar where I’m from) bottle of water? How do you beat the convenience? With a free bottle. With a bottle that you can bring with, and refill any place you go. Think camping. Think places without faucets!

Briz uses water as a coolant; water runs through both tubes beneath the bottom part of the blinds emitting dry mist. As water evaporates, it absorbs the heat thus naturally cooling the atmosphere.

The 100% Design Exhibitions are a great time to mingle with the cream of the Design Industry and I really had a great time covering the Tokyo Edition. The theme this year was “Love Green” and the Exhibitors did a great job interpreting and weaving in the sentiments into their designs. The theme was well reflected in products made using alternative energy sources and natural materials. In short everything looked green too, I mean the color green!

Let’s kick off this coverage with the Cube Exhibition, which is a brand new addition to the 100% Tokyo. This nook actually showcased works of young designers who brought to life the Love Green Concept.

TOHO-Leo Corp and plant designer Harumi Suwa of Atelier Yukiyanagi worked with forty-five talented designers to recreate the green-magic! The dominant installation was this 2.2 m-squared cube that with a planted green façade. This Vertical Garden included beauties like Calathea and Peperomia.

Many Exhibitors brought out their innovations and sparked debates on the real fundamentalism of Eco or Green Concepts.

In the next coverage expect the 100% Café by Subway!

What kind of vehicle race would you see if each driver were limited to only one liter of gasoline? Thats what Moritz Martin is asking right here. Inspired by growing interest in speed and energy efficiency races, Martin’s concept challenges the driver to summon their tactical intelligence and skill to finish the race using only the energy of one single liter of fuel. Setting the race on thin water film areas and projecting the track on in interior display of the vehicle, this type of racing’s only been seen thus far in science fiction arcades.

Racing has become stale (Nascar fans throw popcorn and soda cups like rain) SO this is what’s needed to spice it up!

Inspired by the insanity of Swamp Buggy, Land Speed Record Races and the Eco Marathon.

Skimming across the water using almost no energy at all, retractable wheels for easy interchangeability between glide and drive. Wheel-mounted air nozzles for frictionless steeering, steering unit programmable to operate multi-directional operations all at once.

I can’t imagine how this wouldn’t be totally engaging and fun!

So you’re driving along in your electric car, right? And you’re thinking gosh, now that I have this Hybrid or whatever I am driving today, I feel like I should go another step. How can I generate more power? How? I need to not only generate enough energy for me to drive, I need to generate power for the buildings I’m driving past. “Carbon Zero” road block system has the answer for you!

So what have we got here? Positive and negative. Energy, not consequences. It’s all good, it’s all green.

This system is composed of several elements. The only one you’re going to see is the blocks on the road. As you drive over these blocks, the pressure from your vehicle pushes the blocks down, creating kinetic energy. N-type silicon and P-type silicone work together like a battery, creating a DC-direct current. This energy is then turned into AC-alternating current, which can be used for powering electric devices in the homes and businesses near the road.

Makes sense? Yes. Let’s see it work now.
