We’ve had our share of vase concepts here on Yanko Design, and this is definitely one of them. It’s strikingly similar to a previous “framed vase” design we published some months ago, but it’s unique in it’s shape and execution. The line holding the frame is a wire, the wire bone’s connected to the light bone, and the light shines on the plant. Super cute.

The frame of course uses the famous Polaroid photo ratio to replicate the famous instant-photo look. If you look around the internet you’ll find this look replicated in quite a few places in website design, especially when people are displaying mass amounts of photos or image-links.

This frame was made in light of the loveliness of containing a moment in just a moment, then displaying it simply from then forevermore. Fun, yes?

Designer Julien Hadley had the task of branding a gesture marking 25 years of Brita water filters. Hadley chose the phrase “We’ve Got a Plan” to note Brita’s aim to promote a more sustainable approach to consumerism and how people use products. Environmental responsibility! Along with that is this lovely plant plan: “My-oan” – a platform that enables users to grow homeopathic plants on their own, in their own home.

homeopathy |ˌhōmēˈäpəθē| ( Brit. homoeopathy)
noun
the treatment of disease by minute doses of natural substances that in a healthy person would produce symptoms of disease.

In this case, the homeopathic plant being grown will help sustain the health of the person growing it. Helping something grow that helps you grow, that’s symbiosis. That’s Brita!

Below you’ll see a front cover of a branding analysis report for Brita, an ad promoting the “We’ve Got a Plan” slogan and Brita’s 25 years, styling sketches for the My-oan product, and a glimpse of the product itself, all whipped up by Julien Hadley!

Fall’s almost here and the lawn looks pretty dandy with all the leaves falling. I don’t break a sweat coz it’s not my part of the chores, but I do feel for my husband who has to do all the raking. Here’s where concepts like Power Rake can come handy. Unlike the traditional comb-n-handle ones, this one features a conveyer belt system with well-spaced teeth and a sack to catch the booty. Powered by the kinetic motion of the front wheel, the rake glides over the grass and devours all the mess.

Here’s why Rury feels his Power Rake is better than the rest:

Traditional Rake: leaves get clog in the teeth.

Electric Blower: requires electrical energy and is noisy!

Lawn Sweeper: ineffective in tall grass and wet leaves.

Power Rake: it redefines the raking process into a more efficient solution without the use of fuel or electricity.

I like it coz it takes into account back problems and heights, the handle of the rake can be adjusted according what suits the individuals. So rake away with a comfortable stance.

Look at this lovely table you see here, then let me introduce you to the plants it’s got growing on it. Tillandsias, also known as Air Plants grow without soil, feeding instead on the moisture it finds in the air (dust, decaying leaves and insect matter). These plants rely on a host structure for support, but don’t worry, the table wasn’t alive to begin with.*

But then again, the table wouldn’t be killed by this whole ordeal, as *the Tillandsias that grow on top of it use a host structure simply for structural support. Seems like a fair deal to me.

These tables are made for the freshening of a home, as the Tillandsias absorb CO2 from the air and produce oxygen in the night. The table is the perfect vessel for this magical transmission, as it’s right in the center of all the action. That’s where the cat usually is in my apartment. No chewie, kitty!

Y in Cup is a project that has good intentions. It wants you to re-use your disposable coffee cup (yes the Starbucks variety) to grow more plants. I mean tiny plants that can dot your home, office or wherever. A combo of seed and fertilizer disk comes attached to the bottom of the Y Cup; simply tear open the package and empty the contents in the rinsed out cup. Add some soil from your backyard and you’re good to go.

Like I said the intentions of the project are good, but I don’t think it’s possible to grow plants out of every coffee cup that you use. For an addict like me, who goes through countless cups of coffee, it would be a waste of seeds and fertilizers coz I know I won’t be able to plant and maintain so many pots! A better idea would be to supply optional cups, like you could purchase cups with or without the seed disks. That would make more sense.

Did you know 77% of the world’s plastic bottles end up in landfills? That amounts to tens of metric tons of waste every year. If recycling isn’t the only answer, maybe we need to think of new ways to extend the lives of these bottles. Seeds in the Bottle is a project by designer Yun Hwan Sung with a little surprise in each package. Tiny herb seeds are stored inside a pocket you release into the bottle when you’re done with it. Invert the bottle, fill with potting mix, water and instead of filling up landfills, you have an herb garden.

Our roofs are oft left neglected coz most of us don’t have green thumbs to transform them into roof gardens. If the inclination is there, then these modular pots called Natural Protector can come in quite handy. What they do is they open up on all four sides to form a waterproof layout-base for growing plants. A network of these opened-up pots on your rooftop plus a couple of fancy seedlings, and you’re good to go.

And when I say Chest, I of course mean the cupboard-type, because these lovely multi-vases are made for land-lubbers. Inside-lubbers too, since they’re vases made of dip-moulded vinyl. Studio Laurens Van Wieringen makes the flower-field, usually only inside for greenhouse growing, to the home environment! How pretty.

These vase-fields are 24 by 17 by 17 centimeters. The vase appears porcelain but is, in reality, flexible vinyl. These are made specifically for those rainy days when you’ve got just a hefty need to see the flower fields of summertime.

And just for fun, here’s a plug of my own! Last time I helped plant a veritable field of flowers was at the public gardens in Saint Cloud Minnesota, USA! Munsinger and Clemens gardens they are called, and they are wonderful and they are totally free! Take a peek when you are in the area.

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, without soil; and the Eve Lamp here allows you to do just that. It may seem a bit frivolous to have a dedicated home just for a single plant, but those with serious green-thumbs will probably appreciate this. It’s ideal for plants like herbs and salads and even Venus fly traps! Besides lookin pretty on a table-top, the lamp comes with an indicative system to let you know how caring you have been towards the greens.

The top half of the lamp comes off so that you can give the plant some natural light. But in case you’ve placed the pot in a dingy corner, you can switch on the 6 LEDs to provide the same. When the plant is low on water, a blue light comes on to indicate it and when it’s hungry for some nutrients, the red light glows. You can load in the nutrients (either tablet or liquid form) and water via the hole covered by the cork bung.

Like I said earlier, you may think it’s too much of a trouble for just one plant, but going by the aesthetics and visual appeal, it doesn’t seem too bad a concept.

The “Silver Generation” as referred to by designer Theresa is an ageing, independent lot who rely on simple technology to help them perform their daily chores. Stuff like mowing the lawn, shoveling the driveway or raking the leaves was once done by their children for allowances, is now to be done by them. BUD – E is meant to help this generation (who is most often bogged with some age-related medical issue) do such outdoor tasks with ease and independence. The biggest USP…a single machine performs all the aforementioned tasks.

Design Function

365 BUD-E eliminates the physical aspects of outdoor work and saves you time, as well as reducing stress and noise pollution, allowing you to stay safe and enjoy your garden throughout all the seasons!

It is equipped with sensors and a computer which the product uses to communicate with the user. The consumer decides when and where and BUD – E senses it with its computer.

Wintertime BUD-E functions as a snow blower, using a brush instead of metal components for a safe autonomous option but none the less as effective. Whenever it starts snowing a snow sensor gives BUD – E the signal to start working. Since BUD –E works continuously the product will never have to deal with really big piles of snow, making it a more compact product suitable for other outdoor chores. BUD –E works 24/7 if needed and gives you the pleasure of snow and stress free winter. Wintertime you can also mount a container on BUD-E to spread out sand or salt.

Summertime you easily change the front to a mower front, and have BUD –E to continuously mow your lawn making the cut of grass so fine that it works like manure or you can choose to let BUD-E work only once every week but then collecting grass in a container. This option could be perfect for summerhouse owners in need of mowing at two places.

When fall comes you can collect leaves by changing the front back to a brush and either collecting the leaves in the container or brushing the leaves forward.

The product has in-wheel motors which frees space in the product body for other functions. It is driven by rechargeable batteries making it a less polluted option eliminating any noise pollution.
