OK, show of cursors, who here when thinking of big trucks (not SUVs) thinks of Volvo? Anyone? Anyone? Ok, you two in the Swedish diner..now of you two actually thinking of Volvo trucks who is thinking metro sexual fashions? Ok, so there you are. Now when thinking of metro-sexual fashion and Volvo trucks are you also thinking bibs, comforters, games and toy vehicles? Ha! I lost you didn’t I Mr. Volvo-truck-fashion-boy? Well you are not alone my friend trust me.
Oh Tom Ford, where are you when the world needs you most? I am sure he is turning over in his $98,000 sheets and just woke up from a nightmare where he saw the luxury empire he masterfully helped re-create crumbling all around him into a tacky abyss. Take a look at this pandering disaster a certain Miss Frida Giannini, creative director at Gucci, has let get past the gates of hell.

Listen up, today’s man carries way more stuff than his pockets can hold. You’ve got keys, money, identification, mobile phone, MP3 player, wireless headset, pen, maybe even a checkbook and portable gaming system to pass time. The Setgo line of urban accessories makes this man’s pockets lighter while keeping him at arm’s reach of everything he needs.

Gadgets as fashion…don’t want it, don’t try it, can’t stand it… oh wait, unless of course it is done as well as this MP3 player just announced by INNO Design. It’s called the “INNO-B0″ in the Korean market, and takes the form of a pendant or button design. Emblazoned with the Taegeuk pattern, the INNO-B0 comes in fashion colors (ugh, did they really have to say that?) including hot pink, cacao black, white, orange and brown. My Shuffle just got a little passé.

Sneakart has launched a revolutionary sneaker customization concept for footwear enthusiasts. Using new ‘sneakskin’ technology, sneakart has created a simple and cost-effective way to change the look of your sneakers with a minimum of fuss. Sneakskin is a type of sticker film that you can apply to shoes like an ordinary sticker and it will flex and move as though part of the leather.
First off let me say that I am a HUGE fan of Nagi Noda’s! This Japanese phenom was the creator of one of the strangest things I ever saw on the web. A video called “Ex Fat Girl” and features white poodles exercising to music. Check it out here. Her latest project is possibly as bizarre and absolutely brilliant at the same time. “Hair Hats” are exactly as the name implies, hats made of hair in the shape of animals.

The Kompressor Luggage is a concept that uses seatbelt like straps to compress its volume by nearly 40%. The space savings means you can take it as carry-on luggage, especially helpful since some airlines now charge for check-ins. The center dial does double duty by keeping your contents locked up and as a ninja star when needed. Okay so that last bit was a jest but surely that would be totally cool if true.

Designer Ximena Orozco had an old wool jacket she hadn’t worn in years. Instead of throwing it away she thought, why not make a pillow out of it? She’s created a whole line of them, each with a story printed on a label inside. Some are childhood attachments, some were gifts from an ex. We love this idea. What a great way to reuse something you don’t wear but too attached to throw away.

Summer is coming for most of us here in the north. That means skin is the new black when it comes to fashion, and nothing makes a woman’s skin more appealing than some satiny lotion and a little bling. Ines de Castilho is the recognised authority in the accessory design field, her inspiration coming from the classic romantic period.

Plenty of designers have attempted to fuse fashion with gadgets. Most have been unsuccessful with often designs that were either complicated, cumbersome or just plain ugly. Here is an item that is simplicity at its best. The “Wire Button” by Jaehyung Hong untangles your headphone cables for your listening pleasure and looks subtle enough to avoid being branded a gadget geek.

Beat this toy Brad and Angelina! French Luxury Brand Hermés teamed up with Eurocopter to introduce the “L’helicoptre par Hermès”, the most tricked-out, super-stylish way to fly since the Spruce Goose (look it up). This unprecedented collaboration started as just a design exercise. Italian designer Gabriele Pezzini was brought in to work with Eurocopter engineers and Hermès craftsmen to create the final design.

Not a lot of fashion pieces manage to catch our eyes here at Yanko Design. There are of course the few exceptions like the Geek Chic Keyboard Jeans, and the Kevlar Hoodie, but this piece by Sartoria Vico called “Sciarpone” makes a slightly more palatable fashion statement. This clever convertible sweater/scarf design made of 100% Merino wool is perfect for the ever changing moods of my girlfriend and unpredictable spring time weather here in Los Angeles.
Who says protecting yourself from sniper attacks or chemical warfare needs to be ugly business? Certainly not Dutch designer Tim Smit. His “Urban Security Suit” will be all the rage in a war zone near you. Made of stylish neoprene and strategically lined with body molded kevlar, this runway show stopper will be THE must have accessory for your next war, skirmish, struggle, conflict, combat zone or civil strife you find yourself in or starting. Aeon Flux eat your heart out.
