The Truth Inside Design Objects

The Truth Inside Design Objects

I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for objects that transform from one thing into a completely different thing. Transformers, if you will. Designer Rohan Chhabra has a few objects that do that, and not only that, they’ve got some philosophy behind them too. This set of objects goes by the name “Embodying Ethics.” You’ll find yourself getting emotional witnessing the change between a pair a pants a cow leg. For real.

Hermes Auto Feet

Hermes Auto Feet

The Hermes X is designed to be cross training shoes that will last you for a very long time. Its been conceptualized with body made out of Kevlar and the sole made out of natural and synthetic rubber. Although Kevlar has many applications ranging from bicycle tires and racing sails to body armor because of its high tensile strength-to-weight ratio, it’s the first time I’m hearing of it being considered for shoes. Moving on, the inner part is single unit injected foam, which can be replaced if necessary. Needless to say, Omer turned to the auto industry for his inspiration!

Japanese Wooden Sandal Update

Japanese Wooden Sandal Update

They don’t have rockets, they don’t transform into anything, and no, they do not have ice skates pop out the bottom of them.* What they DO have is a couple lovely innovations that designer Silvialy Tjhin was ever-so-thoughtful to include. Silvialy Tjhin created these in a class whilst at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where in a Methods & Materials class, was going through a lesson on woodworking machines, and Tjhin, being an ever-so-clever utilitarian, created a pair of shoes.

Thread that Lights Up

Thread that Lights Up

Illuminating! LT, look at this! London based textile designer Kathy Schicker’s got a fabulous collection of color changing and light emitting textiles. No joke. Some of them react to sunlight when they see it, some of them react to the absence of it once it’s gone. Color changes in the daytime, color emitting in the night. They’re a matching of textiles, design, scarf wearing and science – pure, fabulous, wonderful science!

Hoodie Light

Hoodie Light

I have a vested interest in soft electronics, particular mixing hardware with textiles. It’s nothing new but we are getting closer and closer to wearable clothes and that excites me. Take for example the Skôn which means nice in Dutch and Swedish. The rim of the hoodie has a knitted variable resistor and varies when you play with it. The changing resistance value changes the intensity of the light. There’s something ethereal about this. Even tho summer’s approaching, it makes me feel all warm and cozy inside.

Three Ear Components

Three Ear Components

One, two, three, and you’ve got an elegant solution to hearing loss. Very pretty in each! First you’ve got the hearing devices themselves, one in each ear, two, you’ve got two rings, one ring on each finger for manual volume adjustment control, three, the charging and display case. All of them together create “El,” also known as “El-Egance.” Now you will be excellent, and if I might say so myself, I’m quite surprised this doesn’t also have an mp3 component. Maybe version 2.0!

Hot On Your Heels

Hot On Your Heels

This is one of those unique opportunities where the product’s extended collection of copy (that’s the words) lends a direct hand in the title of the post. This post is a special case in more ways than one, though, as you’re soon 2b seeing. The name of the project is “Stiletto Police”, and as far as industrial design projects go, this one’s rather graphic. Look at these shoes. And fall right into a maniacal state of wonder.

Make Your Time

Make Your Time

I just hate to make the title of the post so similar to the title of the design it’s about, but this is the internet, and it’s only my most sacred duty to continue one of our most essential moments in history: All Your Base Are Belong To Us. That said, look at this watch. It’s called “Lock Your Time.” It’s made as a metaphor for the perfect moment. One you wish you could lock down forever.

Skate Hard in Destructos!

Skate Hard in Destructos!

These shoes right here are called “Destructo Sports Action Shoes!” Oh my goodness. I know, and you know, that if you do a lot with your feet, your feet shells explode. And when I say feet shells I of course mean shoes. Your shoes are worthless! They come apart at the flick of a knife! But not anymore, now you’ve got these amazing piece-by-piece strong shoes, by Thomas Balaguer.

If Those Little Lights Aren't Cutting It

If Those Little Lights Aren’t Cutting It

So you’re hearing impaired. And the telephone rings. But you aren’t looking at the phone, so you can’t see that little light flashing on it.* Or you’re looking for a new solution for waking up in the morning. Or the doorbell rings. What ever do you do? You come over here and check this right out, right now! It’s a wristband that informs about all of that at once, through sensations in the skin!
