Imagine using the three in context of cupboard, seating and lighting.
Crazy? Crazed? Wonky?
No!
Simply imaginative and creative!

Designer: Fredrik Färg

Black Flower

This is a lamp whose flexible construction lets you place it on the floor or hang it from the ceiling. The leaves are made from polyester felt and copper thread and the Lampshade is plastic.

RE:cover Chair

Frock Coats, Dinner Jackets, Victorian Era?
Nothing is as dramatic as the fact that these chairs are recycled flea-market stuff; with 100% recyclable polyester felt furnishing. Prim and Proper!

Modus:cover Cupboard

Immortalizing the fashion glossy the day you build this cupboard. Fred, hat’s off to you for this idea, and I’m sure Tyra will love you for this and maybe place an order for America’s Next Top Model House as well. Basic premise is this: take the covers of the fashion magazines and paste it on the doors of the cupboard, which is then stained in black and varnished. A secret shelf inside the cupboard hides the original magazine. This particular piece features a PLAZA magazine on an Oak cupboard. The innards are left in a natural finish.

Those going to the Milan Fair, be sure to check all of these out. And report straight back to Me!

Random International had its UV printer on display again, able to print random images on UV film which disappear after a few seconds. Is this the future of advertising

Designed by Massimo Morozzi, the Edra stand is not just a backdrop for the company’s new products – Leatherworks by Fernando and Humberto Campana; Chantilly by Inga Semp – and the display of collection items, some turned out in black for the occasion. The stage set for the Edra show is a stand-alone piece of architecture made from component parts of Paesaggi Italiani, Edra’s modular furnishing system. Arrayed in a star pattern, the varnished acryl panels reflect the light brilliantly, creating a kaleidoscopic effect.

There are no daises or walls just Paesaggi Italiani elements. Much more than a simple container framing exhibits, it is an eye-opener on what the modular system can do. The acryl panels shimmer like precious stones. Colours glinting from all directions create a sort of spatial vertigo – and a spectacular setting for Edra creations.

2007 for Edra is the year of materials: natural, artificial, shiny and mat, rough textured or silky. They are played off against each other in deliberately outrageous contrast to exalt our sense of touch and reveal new spatial densities.

Showing that luxury and creativity can mix, this years design from Serralunga combines more traditional forms with interesting layering and transparency to create some very chic but challenging product. New Wave by Ross Lovegrove is a singular design that appears to change and adapt within space in a kinetic way as one moves around it generating a flow and dynamic from a static object. Flow by Zaha Hadid is two vases that are made of rotation-moulded PVC and stand 1m and 2m tall.

For the sixth consecutive year, Swarovski Crystal Palace have revealed 19 exciting new designs at this year’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile. Challenged to reinvent the chandelier, leading contemporary designers and artists from around the world have used their skills to experiment with Swarovski crystals and produce dazzling creations. Whether they use nature as their source of inspiration, or choose to marry cutting edge technology with contemporary design, the results have always thrilled and captivated.

Black & Lite by Amanda Levete / Future Systems – The continuous looped line of Black & Lite forms a twisted surface in super light carbon fibre through which lines of LEDs are revealed by Swarovski crystals embedded in the glossy black skin. Derived from a mathematical 3-D Harmonograph , which has been stretched and manipulated to create an orchid like form, the structure is so lightweight it twists in response to any air movement. The surface folds in on itself revealing inside and outside faces. The sparkle from the crystal light is on one face only so mysteriously appears and disappears according to the twist of the shape.

Tornado by Kengo Kuma – Architect Kengo Kuma’s design features a large acrylic bowl suspended in the air and filled with water and Swarovski crystals. The blower within the bowl moves the crystals around like a Tornado, creating a dream-like effect. Kuma describes the crystals as being free’ and not restricted by wires.

Dream Saver by Arne Quinze – Inspiration for Dream Saver came from Arne Quinze’s desire to revert the experience of looking at crystals from the outside and using them as a source of reflection. Quinze’s aim is to use the emotional capacity of Swarovski crystal to absorb and release the energy and dreams of people. By doing so, the crystals look at the viewer and become a form of energy by turn. Shaped for speed and motion, when walking through Dream Saver, visitors experience the magic of the crystals and at the same time feel the energy of the previous visitors. The structure is 12m long and 3m high and is made using a wooden and metal frame coated in eight layers of multi-structured fiberglass sheets coated in a Ceralic metallic lacquer. Inside, there are six projection units and hanging from it are 5.5km of Swarovski crystal strands.

For their 2007 exhibition at the Milan Swiss cultural centre, the three designers from Big-game, Grgoire Jeanmonod (CH), Elric Petit (B) and Augustin Scott de Martinville (F), create the plus is more collection. Taking basic elements as starting points, such as a material, a principle or an archetype, Big-game transforms them in a simple way to design functional objects.

The stake of this transformation is to bring a plus, while keeping the integrity of the original element. The praise of less is therefore diverted. Less is more is still a fundamental principle, but with a slight and unexpected contribution. In a sense, Big-game plays with the clich attached to Swiss design, and its profoundly functionalist image.

Bold Chair – Inspired by the elementary structure of a metal tube chair, the Bold Chair is thickened by upholstery. Its sock-like sleeving makes the cover removable.

Stone Dumbbells – Taking advantage of stone’s heavy weight, Big-game creates a set of black granite dumbbells. These small monoliths come in 1, 2 and 3 kg. The magnetic qualities of the stone enhance their beneficial effect.

Coat Rack – The shape of this coat hanger is created by two slits cut in a linear piece of wood. To be lain against the wall.

Swiss Apparel - Fashion is a mean of communication. Here, the classic sweatshirt becomes a German-French-Italian-Romansh conversation guide, as an allusion to the different languages spoken in Switzerland.

Miles – Inspired by children’s gestures, this rug transforms into an infinite freeway interchange (or is the other way around). Comes with three wooden toy cars.

Link – This modular lamp distributes light from a single hanging point, taking de facto the function of a chandelier. The assembly of the components allows different formal configurations.
