I never fully understood the implications of Dieter Ram’s ‘Good Design Is Thorough Down to the Last Detail’ maxim, till I experienced it myself. It was a well designed chair, that looked innovative and inviting; but believe me I could not park my butt on it for more than five minutes. And to add to my woes, I had to suffer through an entire three course dinner sitting on it, pretending it was comfy and cushy!

Electrolux & YD Present : Electrolux Design Lab LOGO Design Competition Results!

Celebrating a decade of innovation, student spirit and adaptability, The Electrolux Design Lab Competition has grown from seeding creativity to empowering young designers. The Logo Competition hosted with Yanko Design received an overwhelming response, and we thank you all for your participation. The winning entry was picked from a shortlist of six finalists, and as a special treat, the first runner up wins a prize too! The winning entry will be used as the official Electrolux Design Lab Logo for the 2012 competition and on all Design Lab communications.

Best of Yanko Design 2011

Steve Jobs hired designer Hartmut Esslinger as the modern-day Snow White for his projects code-named after the seven dwarfs. The vision was to infuse Apple products with “born-in-America gene” and DNA inspired by “Hollywood and music, a bit of rebellion and natural sex appeal.” Hartmut’s mantra was simple, “Form follows emotion,” a twist on the maxim that form follows function. Yanko Design respects both these aphorisms but believes that we should not limit creativity within the realms of form, function and emotions; thus we follow Form Beyond Function.

Top 25 Entries of Electrolux Design Lab 2011

Intelligent Mobility, Scandinavian Design Sensibilities and Existing Technologies were the key words for consideration while designing the Electrolux Design Lab entries for 2011. For booty of 5,000 Euros and six-months paid internship, thousands of designers set to the task of designing appliances that can be used at home and beyond. Looking at the shortlisted 25 entries it’s really hard to predict which one will wear the crown. Last year’s winner Peter Alwin pitched the bar up high with his Snail Concept; this year the competition gets tougher, so good luck designers!
