As a strong advocate of participating in competitions, I am really humbled by the enthusiasm and results of this year’s A’ Design Awards & Competition. I believe that competitions not only act as a measure for your own caliber but also validate your potential against others on an international scale. More than that, platforms like the A’ Design Awards & Competition, offer publicity, PR push and advertisement opportunities for award winners while supporting the global design culture. 15 Amazing Best of Best red dot award: design concept winner 2012

It was a glittering night that had all the elements of a perfect evening. The trophies shone bright, the smiles were flashy and young designers sashayed the red carpet with the finesse of a celebrity. October 19th saw the unveiling of the winners of the coveted red dot award: design concept in Singapore. It was an honor to be a part of the celebrations and festivities and be in the company of such creative people. Here is a look at fifteen concepts from the Best of Best list, that took our fancy; including the top-award – the red dot luminary!

Most Buzzed Designs of August 2012

I never fully understood the implications of Dieter Ram’s ‘Good Design Is Thorough Down to the Last Detail’ maxim, till I experienced it myself. It was a well designed chair, that looked innovative and inviting; but believe me I could not park my butt on it for more than five minutes. And to add to my woes, I had to suffer through an entire three course dinner sitting on it, pretending it was comfy and cushy!

YD’s 2012 red dot product design picks!

Each and every product that wins a red dot is a work of genius, but every year there are just a few designs that really stand out to us! Our favorites from 2012 really shed some light on the trends of both mobility and audio. Not surprisingly, a few of these surround a familiar Apple product while some are about moving on 2 wheels. Most Buzzed Designs of June 2012

After experiencing the red dot product design gala and meeting such high profile designers, I’ve come to the conclusion that designing is all about how you chart your course encompassing form, function and reality. So hat’s off to all you designers, please take a bow!

Most Buzzed Designs of April 2012

April has the notorious vibe of being a prankster and ticking our funny bone. Somehow this has trickled into some of the projects that were presented here on YD.
