Accessible Appliance

Accessible Appliance

Prometheus is a multifunctional kitchen appliance aimed at giving handicapped users the experience of cooking safely at home. The unit uses magnetic induction that allows the user to change temperatures simply by repositioning metal pots. The electric current is induced in a closed circuit when the magnetic flux through the surface bounded by the conductor changes. Visual and audio cues as well as braille and embossed instructions also provide added safety and ease of use for various types of impairment.

Cooking on Time

Cooking on Time

Well here’s a novel idea; an integrated timer on a pot lid called Time Me. Set exactly how long something is to simmer, boil, blanche and whatever else cookbooks tell you to do. This idea seems so obvious. If you’ve seen something similar, shoot me a link otherwise I’m going to have to call Captain Oblivious because this is most certainly a job for him. There’s no mention of what kind of “ding” the timer will make, because you know – that ding is very important. Zojirushi rice cookers hum a little diddy when they’ve completed their cook cycle. This needs something similar.

When Skinny Appliances are Cool

When Skinny Appliances are Cool

The trend with appliances these days is to get slimmer and sleeker so that you don’t hide them in closed cupboards but proudly show them off as a part of your kitchen décor. Consider Slim Toaster to be a part of this concept. Wall-mounted and with a very practical approach towards functionality, I’d use this over my current Philips Toaster, any day.

Cold Coffee Hot

Cold Coffee Hot

This is the perfect season to be discussing hot coffee and methods of keeping them just that – HOT!

Re-Warming is a reheating stick that restores tepid drinks to their piping-hot glory. It is sleek and creatively wand-ish with a very Harry Potter vibe to it. Not a new concept but definitely a sleek iteration for the next step in refinements.

The Pressure Test

The Pressure Test

I iron my shirts myself so I really know why Choi Hyemin has designed the Easy Iron. Collar, cuffs and hard to remove creases require extra pressure and a clever iron maneuver and I struggle with them everyday. Easy Iron kinda splits into two different bases for such tricky creases. I guess once we see the working prototype things will clearer. For now, all I can do is struggle and hope this iron comes out soon!

Cooking by the Milliliter

Cooking by the Milliliter

The Scale Gas Range integrates a weighing scale within the framework of the cooking range. The idea behind the concept to save your meals from getting burnt! Each recipe has a particular weight when it starts to cook, eventually as the moisture evaporates and the gravy thickens, the weight drops. At this time, if we get distracted with other chores, our dish is sure to burn. To avoid this, after a certain drop in weight, the burner automatically turns off, thus saving the chances of a burnt meal. I think it is a clever idea, especially if you are a new cook!

Flair Trade Coffee

Flair Trade Coffee

The first release in HJC Design’s new line of kitchenware is this elegantly crafted coffee machine, Peel. Inspired by the drip of flowing coffee, the stainless steel base plate simulates ripples and helps guide the user’s mug to the proper location.  Satin matte-black body construction, LED accents, and a straightforward user interface simply leave little to be desired.

The Heat Coil Knows Best

The Heat Coil Knows Best

The Spiral Burner is quite a nifty design that reminds me of mosquito coils that we get here in India! The plot behind this design to have a burner that saves fuel when using small utensils, conversely increase fuel efficiency when using big pots. The knobs are simple and the burner boasts clean lines, I think I’m already in love with it! Oh my!

Benefits of CO2

Benefits of CO2

Fresh CO2 uses the carbon dioxide in the air to prolong the life of refrigerated food from 7 days upto a month! It basically controls the oxidization process and wilting of vegetables in a very controlled manner. Methinks it’s a pseudo plant mimicking the photosynthesis process and respiration functions. What do you think?

Master Chef with Liberty

Master Chef with Liberty

The Liberty Project is an innovative approach towards modular kitchen and space management. The setup integrates and aligns a refrigerator, cooking area, prep area, microwave, washing area, washing machine, water recycling system, air conditioning and exhaust. The best part about the concept is that the working platform height can be adjusted for wheelchair bound folks. Moreover the platform configuration can be changed to suit individual needs. I really like the concept and the video is pretty neat too!

Water Ding!

Water Ding!

The CookDial is a pot with a timer dial at the end of its handle. You can leave a pot of water to boil, set the timer and multitask with other kitchen work, instead of keeping a watchful eye. A distinctive ‘Ding!’ goes off when time’s up, and I think it can be a useful when I make my tea!
