Blog Action Day 2008 – Design for Poverty Contest

The Design for Poverty contest was a big success thanks to all the entrants. To do our part for Blog Action Day 2008, we wanted designers all around the world to come up with ways to address different aspects of poverty; food, clean water, shelter, medicine, education, etc. We’re amazed at all the creativity and ingenuity. Thank you so much for your hard work. We didn’t expect so many entries! We need a little more time to read thru each one and will post the shortlist October 17th. Great job everybody!

We’re on Holiday but There’s a Second Coming

We’re short on posts today as the Yanko Design team are all on holiday. It’s Labor Day in the United States so with half the team kickin’ back with BBQ’s and beers, we thought it best to give the international team a rest too. But there’s more than meets the eye.

We kindly ask that you please resend any emails via the contact form now that the problem as been resurrected.

Thank you for your understanding!

Want To Write For Yanko Design?

Thanks to readers like you Yanko Design is growing fast. If you’ve ever wanted to write for us now is the time because YD is looking to expand its staff. Connected to the student base? That’s even better. Part of working on an innovative ID editorial team means research and today’s innovations usually come from students.

You must possess the ability to translate loquacious and long winded descriptions into meaningful, clever, humorous laymen’s terms. You should be able to find or create your own content. Got an opinion on the ID industry? Speak your mind. That’s the kind of stuff we want to read. You’re probably used to YD only writing about concepts but as we grow, we want to expand. That includes concepts, product reviews, industry news coverage, and opinionated editorial pieces.

These are paid positions so apply only if serious.

Mother of a Weekend

Mother of a Weekend

For many of us in the creative fields, whether it be design, music, art, accounting, film or even dressing up like Pokémon for some brat’s birthday party, we have a person to thank for the inspiration and never-say-die attitude we sometimes take for granted. For those lucky enough to have or had a good relationship with our mothers, we here at Yanko Design wish you and yours a Happy Mother’s Day.

Yanko Design Is Looking For Writers

Yanko Design Is Looking For Writers

The site is growing more quickly than we could have possibly imagined, reaching 1.7 million page views per month! We’re looking for a couple of design-loving writers to join our team! You don’t have to be a professional writer or even be a designer, but you must enjoy writing about design and be capable of expressing yourself in a clear, engaging way.

Happy New Year – I hope that you’re having a good one. I’ve got a day of shopping planned (Winter Sale starts today in Japan) – but wanted to leave something here on the blog for those of you with a little more time on your hands.

I thought I’d take this opportunity to reflect back on the year. This post contains some highlights for this blog and the top 10 design from the last 12 months of archives.

Happy Thanksgiving from All of Us

Happy Thanksgiving from All of Us

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. It is a day to be thankful for all the beautiful things this life has given us. So we at Yanko Design want to do something a little different today; something outside of our regular postings. We want to say to you, just how thankful all of us here are for each and every one of you who support the site and make it what it truly is.
