Cryptic Time-Telling

This design is for all you decrypting puzzle lovers out there. The Hexagons LED watch uses neon tube-like hexagons to form an esoteric message that displays the time. Hours are shown in green and the minutes are in cyan, and the wearer can also choose between 5 different difficulty settings. Designer Samuel Jerichow says it’s ideal for the “geek within” but even though I might not be able to tell the time, but I’d still rock it. This of course, gets the Tron stamp of approval.

The “Is That a Watch?” Watch

Gotta love this minimal design by Samuel Jerichow! The Dot watch is made of a single flexible strap covered with a stretchable, retractable PVC-based sheet. The center mechanism consists of three cylinders- one “on” indicator dot that is permanently visible as it presses up against the sheet, and two hour and minute indicators that magically appear when the center dot is pressed. After 5 seconds the dots disappear again. A simple and futuristic looking timepiece with a playful analog charm.

The solution aims to encourage exercise & interaction by providing a way for kids to reflect on daily activities by simply by doing what they do best- playing. The watch measures the type, duration, & other members involved in an activity & links this information to a social networking site where they earn badges based & can compare their scores.

Adrian Castro originally conceived the MoonWatch in 2004 and decided to update it for 2011 using new materials and tech. Made of high-strength plastic, lacquered in different colors and equipped with an LED screen that displays time via numeric codes and digital hands. Other variations include titanium, gel silicone, leather and carbon fiber straps. The unique shape of the MoonWatch is supposed to better fit the wrist and the overall design is pretty unisex.

Wind Energy Watch

This interactive watch by Julien Moise uses the wearer’s own renewable wind energy to power it’s icy blue display.  To read the time the user simply blows on the propeller mechanism to generate just enough electricity to activate a short visual sequence. You might get some strange looks blowing on your wrist, but this watch’s cool minimal style totally makes up for it.

Time in a Bangle

Leaves is a concept watch inspired by women’s fashion. Look closely and you’ll see the shape of two leaves, hence the name. One leaf indicates hour while the other – minutes. Other than that, there’s nothing revolutionary about the concept but it seems to be a nice balance between fashion and tech gadgetry which is actually rare in women’s accessories. Kudos Andy Kurovets.

Prophecy

Jerome Olivet is a man who loves his curved surfaces so when it came time to design a watch that properly suggested his design ethos, the Prophecy was born. Futuristic, organic, maybe even a little elitist, the Prophecy’s design is a continuous movement expressed by the tense curves of its surfaces. It feels fluidic and quite original. A polarizing design but I like it.

Just months after the successful launch of the original Gravity watch, Ziiiro is back with two additions to the lineup; the Aurora and Orbit. The Aurora displays time using two transparent gradient discs, blue indicating the hour and yellow – the minute. The overlapping colors create green and the effect creates a clear definition between “hours” and “minutes”.

Here is an amazing concept watch called Stealth Tourbillon, inspired by stealth fighters. Featuring sharp lines and edges, the watch is crafted with titanium alloy. The highlight of the concept is its ability to switch modes from analog to digital. You change functions by rotating the face dial. Switching to the Dual Time module shifts the focus to the different time zones. In the Digital Module the user can set the date and alarm and access many other functions like compass and pressure meter.

The MIKEY is another analog watch concept that shakes up the “traditional” a little with its face divided up into three quadrants. Each one is demarcated to indicate hours, minutes and seconds. MIKESY is a newer edition of the MIKESYDÄN. The origin of this design was the conceptualization of a product that reflects the Japanese earthquake disaster – born under the triad concept (mind – body – heart) reflected in the three parts.

Revolutio

This simple and modern watch by designer Mickaël Chrost presents a new perception on time telling. Minutes and hours are displayed on Revolutio’s rotating rings and are powered by a standard watch engine. The magnetic locking system is perfectly discreet. I’m really digging the center-less design- the loop, versus the standard circle, is an interpretation of eternity and reminds that time has no real beginning or end.
