Who here remembers Harry? That lovable toy consisting of a cartoon picture of a bald man that you would move magnetic shaving around and create your own hair style and beards? Well that is the basic principal behind this pocket watch concept by Li Jianye. “Time Sand” takes a magnetized minute and hour hands and attracts the help of metal shavings (powdered iron) to display the time. Just shake up the watch and find out what time it is.

Straight out of Poland, Damian Kozlik has designed an interesting if not confusing timepiece dubbed “X-Watch”. His attempt at a universal time piece able to be used by sighted and the blind is a step in the right direction. Not sure if X marks the right spot on this one but his rubber strap housing carries an array of LEDs behind graduated glass with extruded braille numbers that chris-cross to highlight and center the correct time.

Unique Time and Customed

Unique Time and Customed

Once upon a time custom and handcrafted were hallmarks of luxury items. Today anything expensive enough for a niche group with disposable income is considered luxury, regardless of make and quality. Pierre-Thomas Lambert wants to echo that past with a concept called Unique Time. You choose the mount, face, frame, strap, and mechanics. Everything is crafted from the finest materials in the utmost detail. Truly a one of a kind Unique Time (piece).

Will Smith and little green men approved, this latest design by Ramei Keum is called “The Universe” and it is out of this world… yuk, did I really just write that? I guess I did and my delete button has been broken for years now (as many of you so lovingly have noticed). Anyhow, this simple and elegant watch design is centered by a cluster of rubies (bling) and circled by two diamond satellites (bling bling).

His “In-spiral” bangle bracelet/watch design looks acceptable on either on a wrist or a desktop. This rail system design adjust through every other line and locks magnetically.

What Time Is It Really?

What Time Is It Really?

Time actually moves on a scale millions of time smaller than most of us perceive. At the atomic level, time changes so rapidly we wouldn’t even notice it if it punched us in the face. The Digital Time concept by Freddie Yauner displays time right down to a millionth of a second. So if you’re the obsession compulsive type who needs to know the exact time – now you’ve got it.

Stereo Listening Rings – Two Rings to Rule Them All

Now here is a perfect example of concept design bettering the world in previously unimagined ways. The deaf of the world are not just being deprived of music, a sweet whisper and a simple phone call. They are also lacking the ability to be fairly warned of impending danger from out of sight sources. Designers Kwang-seok Jeong, Min-hee Kim and Hyun-joong Kim really deserve a round of silent applause for this inspired design.

Time to Watch this Line

Time to Watch this Line

A watch for keeping time is becoming less and less a part of society. With many of us now looking at our mobile phones for the correct network calibrated time, the watch industry has seen a massive decline in sales over the past decade. Wearing a watch in 2008 is becoming more of a utilitarian fashion accessory, than a way to count the hours.

Tech that lets you connect with kids…

We have all seen the nature shows where the baby deer wanders too far from its mom and gets pounced on by some hidden predator. Well aside from opposable thumbs, moms have a new way to differentiate themselves from our mammalian brethren. The “Link” Child Locator is a device that takes a page from the movie Alien, in that it allows for the tracking of your spawn as they hide in the clothing racks at your local Gap store.

A Watch For The Extrovert

A Watch For The Extrovert

Inspired by HR Giger’s amorphous designs, the Draught Watch carries the idea of symbiosis by proposing the watch and the wearer are one. The design is a bit outside the box but nothing is ever too weird for us extroverts.
