Crystal Wrist

Crystal Wrist

Let me continue our legacy here on Yanko of presenting completely amazing, strange, and weird, with this “Retro-Futurism” timepiece from designer Carson Leong. It’s a digital timepiece that “celebrates the magical properties of fused fibre optics.” I couldn’t have said it more wonderful myself. The watch has its top glass (Sapphire crystal) replaced by fused fibre optic with 12 facets, each of the 12 representing one hour of the day. When turned off, the watch becomes a unique fashion accessory with a black gem (the optic) at the helm.

One Watch With Many Faces

One Watch With Many Faces

Here is a neat idea that allows you to play with the different faces for a watch. The Watch oNe basically features an E-Ink display which is LED back lit, but its face is not constant, meaning you can change it at whim or fancy. Hook the watch up to the internet and download your kinda face to it. Designers have a choice to upload their creativity to the on-line store, for others to purchase. So the possibilities with this one watch are endless… mechanical, digital, classic, futuristic, complex…any type of face can be downloaded (via micro USB port) for use.

Seconds Moving Hours

Seconds Moving Hours

On our never-ending travels from the birth to the grave, there’s lots of minutes, hours, waiting for years to pass, all the loveliness and ickiness of the world traveling about us. But then there’s the seconds. The tiny ants carrying the picnic of our lives unto the future. Daniel Will-Harris knows this, and seeks to show us every day time moving forward being pushed by seconds. The numbers move, the moment stays the same. This is the “Rush Hour” watch, a highly modern sort of watch.

A Random Time

A Random Time

A watch that you place upon your wrist for the purpose of telling the time, but not for time’s sake, for the sake of keeping wonder and playfulness alive. This watch is called “Time Lines” and its apparent improper and random placement of lines in the design create “a dialogue with the clock face,” keeping for itself a unique identity while it tells you when it’s time to go check Yanko for updates.

Seeing Time Differently

Seeing Time Differently

Inside this post you will see five watches. Of these five watches, there are four designs, one with two colorways: black and white. These watches are made by designer Denis Guidone, who says, “I don’t like to design watches, what I really like is to design time” That’s a pretty bold thing to say, yes? But Guidone’s got some pretty fabulous watches here. Let’s take a look.

Watch Is All Buttons

Watch Is All Buttons

When designing this timepiece collection for odm, Michael Young altered the conventional mindset of how a watch looks and the result is this gorgeous collection. The position of time panel and buttons are ingeniously reversed for a fresh way to read time, giving its eponymous name  – Reverse.

World's Largest Wristbound Curve

World’s Largest Wristbound Curve

When you’ve got a watch on your wrist, you’re constantly saying something about yourself. That’s changed since the beginning of watches. When wrist watches were first invented, you definitely said something about your identity when you wore one. Then there was a long period when everyone had one – it was standard to have one. Now, in this age of pocket-sitting clocks on mobile phones, again the age of wrist clock fashion is born. Curve ID knows this.

What Do FIFA Referees Lack? Third Eye

What Do FIFA Referees Lack? Third Eye

It only takes a stinky fish to dirty the entire pond, and this year FIFA has 2 fishes tainting their image. To rub salt over our wounds Sepp Blatter apologizes but still says FIFA has reservations over incorporating technology into the sport. I have only two words for him: England and Mexico! Even a money-spinning sport like cricket has adopted the third umpire into the game, because we are only HUMANS! FIFA too needs a “Referee Third Eye”.

Best Of Machine And Digital

Best Of Machine And Digital

The Mechanized Digital Watch features a digital font but manipulates it to function as a “mechanized” number because the elements of each digit physically move to create numbers. Every digit is composed of 7 panels and to create a number, panels on the watch face recess revealing contrasting sidewalls. Thus creating the outline of a digit and a whole lot of fun!

Three Dimensional Wrist Communicator

Three Dimensional Wrist Communicator

It’s that time again. It’s time for the Mac. The dude who keeps coming hard with the strangest, wildest, most fantastically cool looking conceptual designs on such a regular basis that I can’t believe he doesn’t already work for a super secret design corporation run by time traveling aliens from outer space. Wait. I’m getting a message from Mac. He can see what I’m typing and is telling me to hush up! Oh jeez! Better just talk about this new design – “Dew”, it’s a conceptual mobile communication device that works in three dimensional projection space.
