Cosmic Time

Cosmic Time

One of our favorite companies ZIIIRO just released the latest star from their cosmic laboratory called “Celeste.” The instantly recognizable design combines 2 previous concepts into one so the hour and minute demarcation is more clearly defined. It works by two overlapping transparent discs to create a fluid gradient as time passes. It comes in 4 different colors but 2 are already sold out. Why am I not surprised. This is a hot item which is also why it’s included in our holiday gift guide.

Gentlemanly Benz Watch

Gentlemanly Benz Watch

Automotive enthusiast and designer Marko Petrovic’s Mercedes 320 Tourbillion watch is an homage to the Mercedes Benz type 320, a cabriolet first introduced in 1937. Inspired by the instrument cluster of the 320, the Tourbillion exhibits the same meticulous attention to detail and overall elegance still found in the brand today. Another nod to the automotive influence are hours and minutes shown as miles or kilometers in a racing scale.

Apocalypse Please

Apocalypse Please

The inspiration behind the Adjust watch was an imaginative, apocalyptic storyline created by the designer that involves corporate control, an earth left in shambles, and a group of surviving humans communicating covertly through a new language based on triangles. I won’t get into the details – but have a look for yourself at this representation of their experience.

Arty’s Watch is Captivating

Arty’s Watch is Captivating

For once familiarity doesn’t breed contempt! I’m talking about very familiar Art Lebedev Studio and their amazing concepts seen here on Yanko Design! This time around we have for you the Integralus Digital Watch. It features a double body closure and two display segments (one for hour and one for minutes) that snap together for a secure lock. The body is made of milled aluminium and the elastic bands come in three sizes. Overall I think this is one cool watch.

Not Just a Paper Bag

Not Just a Paper Bag

Designer Casey Ng may have been inspired to create the BoxBag specifically as a quick and easy way of transporting and serving the Kiwi native’s famous New Zealand fish and chips, but I see many more practical applications for this clever design. An intuitive perforated strip around the bottom, rigid half of the bag can be removed in seconds, separating the top half and leaving a good-size container for serving the contents. Perfect for lunches, picnics or carrying anything else where easy access is beneficial.

Many Options to Time

Many Options to Time

The WRYST VARIANCE is a unique approach to wearing time. The digital face can take on a myriad of displays, some more novel than others, but variety is the key proponent here. The entire face can be removed and attached to straps, keychains, dog tags, etc.. And if those options weren’t enough, you get to choose from seven colors. I must be an old fogie because I’m actually missing the colors black and white.

The AP1 watch is a nod to the first generation Honda S2000, one of the first cars to offer a push button start to the mass market. The watch mimics the form of the button and is equal in simple functionality: time, alarm, date, and stop watch/lap timer. A great watch for the weekend racer and automotive enthusiast!

The USB Watch is so Geeky!

The USB Watch is so Geeky!

And I love it too! The USB Watch is a simple way of carrying your memory stick in style. A 10-minute romp with the computer charges it enough to tell you the correct time for a week. What’s more, every time you hook it up it syncs in automatically with the computer’s time. The LED display shows you the current memory status at the touch of a button. I think it’s a clever integration of functionality and utility.

Simplicity at It's Finest

Simplicity at It’s Finest

The Nixon Minimalist watch was designed to showcase pure simplicity and the name couldn’t capture it more. The designers’ intention was to rid the user of the anxiety of minutes, and allow the watch focus purely on the hour at hand. No annoying graphics, no overbearing branding… just simple, honest time. We love it!

This Watch has Balls

This Watch has Balls

The limited edition Ringen watch by designer Marc Tran was inspired by the perfect roundness of balls and automotive shapes. The watch is composed mostly of white gold, but the blue disc that represents the hours is made of brushed, anodized aluminum and adds a touch of youth to the overall design. A blue ball is moved along a horizontal progression of black slats that each represent 2 minutes. An additional blue ball orbits the face to display seconds. Anything but ordinary!

Unofficial Nooka Concept and We Like It

Unofficial Nooka Concept and We Like It

Whenever a concept comes into our box, I can usually make a quick decision as to whether or not it’ll make it to the blog by giving it a once-over. But when it’s a concept inspired by and designed for an international brand, my immediate response will either be harsh or laboriously complimentary. Fortunately this concept falls into the latter. I know Nooka and its head henchman Matt Waldman so I can say with certainty, this concept watch takes the Nooka DNA and twists it into something new. Kudos.

The Dog Tag Nooka

The Dog Tag Nooka

The thing about Nooka watches is that they are constantly evolving and setting new trends in the way people wear their timepieces and read time. Using this as an inspiration, we have here the Xon, a kitsch version of how we can carry our Nooka: with keys, carabiner, dog tags, lanyard, necklace and more! Superb fun!

Simple Umbrella Solution

Simple Umbrella Solution

The folding umbrella is an incredibly useful and quite simple way of protecting us from the elements, but after making it in from the rain they can be a bit messy and tedious to store. The POPI umbrella provides a simple solution for quick, dry, and easy storage. The handle doubles as sealable housing making it possible to store anywhere, even when wet! Simply pop the cap to release or contain the umbrella, throw it in your bag, and be on your way.
