The Open-Me is a fancy crystal ring that doubles up as a security agent. Besides looking like a hip piece of jewelry, the geometric cut of the crystal is the key to opening your doors. A 3-D scanner embedded in the door lock scans the facets of crystal, and pops open only after authenticating the cut. Only probs is that in a fit of rage, if you ever smash that crystal, you’d be locked out forever!

Welcome back for this day’s installment of the Everyday. Every single day you (or at least I) use a plug, or multiple plugs to activate the objects we use that require the power. The power of electricity. But how can the power of LOVE be attained? With a plug. In what’s more than just a simple gesture here, Anna Yu of Yu Yu Design presents the Plug and Socket Duo Ring – one male, one female.

Made of PURE 925 silver. Best silver ever. I love cute little guys like these, especially when they can be worn without their clever intent intact. You could even put a nice gem in the weird crevices, if you’d feel so strangely inclined. These are part of a full, albeit limited edition ring from Yu Yu.

One person’s recycling is another person’s garage sale. One person’s trash is another person’s jewelry construction. Take a peek at this collection of recycled jewelry by Indregru. Several different constructs for several different purposes, and oh my goodness, a photo shoot with the ladies of the recycling plant!

For the project final presentation photosession was made in the recycling station. Women in photos are the EMP operators working on waste sorting line. They are those who first make contact to the materials from which these accessories were created.

I love it! This should also be put on all those “made” sites I’d say. But then you take a look at them, and wows, they could be manufactured! The only hand-made part would have to be the collecting of the trash! They’re genius of course, and the photo shoot – fabulous.

For quite a while I used to believe that infidelity is a state of mind. This was till I realized that porn and men are like inseparable and therefore every man would be a fantasizing infidel! Better than putting a leash on your partner and curbing natural instincts, is the set of TooRings that “Fix Your Love”. The set consists of 4 rings that represent practical advice of tightening your relationship, not screwing it up, smoothing the rough patches and building bridges.

The rings are:

Hexagon: a 5mm inner hexagon spanner
Always remember tightening your relationship…

Cruciform: a cruciform screw driver
Never screw up your relationship with loved one…

#1: a number 1 file
Smoothen your relationship with care when necessary

3CM: a 30mm ruler
By doing all these you two will be closer than 30mm!

How pretty a princess you will be! Or prince! Or both! A set of rings, all made of basically what you’d call “regular” paper, each one cut out (by you), rolled or folded, and worn monthly (or daily, depending on how rough you are.) Each flower ring corresponds with a month out of the year. There are two sets: one birthday set, and one “yearly” set. Fancy!

TT:NT has for us a simply cute little concept here that involves a little paper, a little cutting and folding, and a lot of giggles. These rings come in one full set (”All Year Rings”) or in singles, packaged as a birthday card (”Birthday Rings.”) These rings follow the following follow-able list of pretty pretty flowers:

January – Carnation
February – Violet
March – Jonquil
April – Daisy
May – Hawthorn
June – Rose
July – Tulip
August – Poppy
September – Morning Glory
October – Cosmos
November – Chrysanthemum
December – Orchid

TT:NT believes that the birth month flowers originated some time in/during the Roman Empire. Wikipedia gives a slightly different list of flowers, but no other info. If you’ve got some insider info on monthly birth flowers, leave a note! That would be awesome.

A device to see without sight, adding distinguishable sound to objects that can’t be identified by sound. Dubbed “Info Jewelry” by designer Ryoji Takahashi, this ring and earpiece combo are used to scan products in stores. Once scanned with the ring, the signal is sent to the earpiece which conveys the product name and expiration date, where applicable. What other use could such a thing be? Perhaps many things could come of it!

Ko Yang’s intent is to add the joy of the fifth sense to the meal experience for blind people. I’ve seen similar scanners for book merchants who go to flea markets to scan for books that are worth the purchase.

I’d like one of these to tell comparable prices around the city!

That would be wild. And uneconomical!

You remember the ubiquitous Candy Necklace, right? Many of you probably still indulge in edible jewelry now and again. While the Candy Necklace might not have been designer His-Ju Chang’s primary inspiration, she has certainly refined the art. Using the surplus of the world, here’s the solution to global hunger: the Food Necklace!

Chang proposes that the food surplus in “over-consumption” areas of the world be taken, dried out, and used for nutrition balls. These nutrition balls consist of “whole vegetable or fruit including peel and fresh or root and leaves,” and can be prepared for consumption placing them in water, milk, or soup.

In addition, this product can be made into an urban-landscape product (she compares them to tic-tacs) by making them tiny for small meals and snacks.

Until such time toddlers are given mobiles on their 5th birthdays, parents will have difficulty keeping them wrangled in and safe from danger. This Wristlet from Petr Hampl might be a useful solution in the mean time, allowing parents to send messages, alarms or graphic symbols to the solar powered display. Better hope they come in other colors, I don’t think pink would fly very well with boys.

Well it has been nearly 17 years since AIDS was first recognized as a problem in the world. Since then, AIDS has taken more than 25 million lives. Designer Andriy Kurovets believes it is time to bring new attention to a virus that has brought so much misery around the world. This jeweled cross sectioned accessory is modeled in detail after the virus that causes AIDS. Not really sure why someone would want to commemorate a killer like this so beautifully (or not) but it reminds me of artist Andres Serrano’s “Art in the Age of AIDS” haunting collection.
