Dumpling Inspired Backpack

Here’s a slightly different take on the backpack. The Dumpling, inspired by the delicious pouch foods, is a backpack that treats your belongings as color coded and compartmentalized items. The backpack is actually made up of a series of roll-up bags. Take only what you need and roll them up into the main support guard which is quite simple in design – a couple straps and a big hook. It looks crafty but something about it is very attractive.

Summer’s up and as most of you design students must be getting ready to buy supplies for the new term. Before you head out for a new backpack, just browse through this prized collection. I know most of them are just concepts, but they are unique, exciting and desirable.

9) City Bag and City Briefcase by Jerome Olivet

4) Carga Messenger Bags

Carga is a detour from the backpack countdown. But going by Long Tran’s review it’s of worthy mention. It’s hard to find a good looking bag that can hold all the contents (junk included) we are so used to lugging along. Carga fits the bill; now only if we could have it as a backpack!

3) Modular Travel Bag by Teo Song Wei

I like this bag, it comes with a basic skeleton and you add on modules that you only deem fit for the day. Nothing extra, only the basics.

2) Flo Backpack by Ivan Huber

A backpack that withstands the vigor of city life. Hardshell, modular, ergonomic and what not; it comes in three sizes the urban day pack, the weekender, and the 5-day trekker – that quickly snap into the universal Flo frame.

Glaming Up The Fruit Bag

A shopping bag is a bag and nothing more, unless you peak it up with some special effects. Regenesi’s Fruit Bag’s claim to fame is the ingenious use of reclaimed leather, specially sourced from Salamander. The smooth marriage of Italian flamboyance and Japanese practicality is evident in the characteristics of the shopper. Comfortable handles that sit easy on the shoulders and a series of internal pockets render it functional and secure. Because it uses regenerated leather, the bag guarantees durability, color resistance both to light and rubbing and a smooth surface.

I’m a veteran when it comes to traveling with kids and I know the nightmarish times I went through every time I ventured out. Cranky, jet lagged babies + luggage management is horrid combo. Try pushing a buggy and pulling your trolley bag at the same time! Dreadful! Good folks at Castiglione Morelli have an ingenious idea with their Samsonite Convertible Trolley Stroller Bag. A specialized compartment holds in a folded fabric, which when pulled out, stretches over the pull-out metallic frame; thus resulting in a child seat. Very Convenient.

Vegan Leather? Matt & Nat Archive Bag Review

In my never ending quest for the perfect laptop bag, I stumbled across a French Canadian company called Matt & Nat who have an entire line of soft goods but it was their Archive bag that caught my eye. It’s all vegan leather which is an oxymoron so just think of it as faux leather – really good faux leather. Hit the jump for me review.

For a faux leather bag that commands an almost “real” leather price tag, quality better be good. Thankfully Matt & Nat’s quality is top tier. It looks like leather, feels like leather, and smells like leather. The grain is smooth without the nasty cracking. It’s incredibly soft and when placed right next to a Louis Vuitton bag, you’d be hard pressed to differentiate quality.

The Archive has a light grey faux suede lining, tone on tone stitching, and brushed nickel hardware. Utilitarian fans rejoice because there are enough zip enclosures, pockets, flaps, nooks and crannies to carry everything from a 17″ laptop to cables, mobile phone, stationary, and accessories. I’ve been toting it around with my MacBook Pro for a month and it still looks brand new. The only noticeable change is the bag getting softer which I’m all for. There’s a detachable shoulder strap too but I prefer to carry it as a briefcase or manbag – whatever you want to call it.

There are 3 colors to choose from, white, grey, and black. The Archive measure 19″ X 16″ X 3.75″ and costs $315. If you need something that’s functional and stylish, leave the ordinary laptop carriers at home. Splurge and get the Archive. It’s absolutely gorgeous inside and out.
