Someone must design everything. Everything I tell you! One of my favorite stickers of all time is one I saw at my alma mater design school: this sticker said “Someone Designed This.” T’was stuck on everything! T’would be stuck on this if it were appropriate – but it’s not! Know why? It’s a UAV control station for the government. Or rogue groups with UAV’s on their hands.

UAV = Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. There’s no man in there and there’s no woman in there either. It’s robots. And this is the control station you control it with. You’d better watch the video to see the animation which makes this design at least 5x more awesome.

Nice plugs, too.

As the winter sets in, more of us are going to be downing the liquid gold, just to keep out the chills. Coffee! A warm mug to curl your hands around, just as you watch the first snowflakes hit the ground. Here are Ten ways to get your fix; machines, coffee sets and kettles. I like mine instant coffee with milk and strong; how about you?

10) Birch-wood Coffee Set by Andrea Branzi

Kicking off this countdown is an elegant silver and birch-wood coffee set designed by Andrea Branzi. Made from silver dipped in acid to get the rustic look, the set is quite a collector’s item.

9) Muji Non-directional Coffee Maker by Kazushige Miyake

I don’t get what a “Non-directional Coffee Maker” is, but I’m willing to hear your opinion on it.

8 ) Kahva by Lina Fischer

Technically Kavha is the Kashmiri way of preparing tea, with saffron and cardamom; so it quite surprises me that a coffee maker has been christened thus. Any ways the Kahva is a beautiful way to brew your coffee.

7) The Barista by Patrik Pettersson

Perfect solution for multiple coffee addicts in an office, this machine dispenses many cups of coffee at one go.

6) Coffee Maker by Tom Metcalfe

This one’s for the serious brewers who go to any lengths for their cuppa java! I love the video in this post, do re-visit and check it out.

5) Cocoon by Jan König

Made of twin-spherical bowls, in the Cacoon, the water is heated via induction in the outer sphere and a pump in the handhold transports the warm water to the filter and finally the ready coffee drips into the inner sphere. The resulting cavity (where the water was before) between the both spheres, now serves as a natural insulator and keeps the coffee warm.

4) Nespresso by Jeremy Myrier

A service tray that doubles up as coffee warmers! I can pictures us warming our hands over it!

3) Enjoy It While Flying by Balazs Millete & Telekes Tamas

Enjoy It While Flying is a concept brewer of Nespresso that is to be enjoyed abord your private aircraft, as you jetset from one glam destination to another. Strictly for those with the moola; Plebs please endure the airline trash you get.

2) Pearl by Andreas Diefenbach

This Ceramic Coffee machine is refined with a gilded touch, and is quite an exquisite creation.

1) Untitled by Brice Genre Hanika Perez

Thanks to its thermo-sensitivity, artistic patterns appear on the surface of this coffee machine when hot water runs through it. Almost like have an art piece hanging up on the wall.

It’s always about the future, and in the future you guys are going to realize the need of doubling up your interior spaces by adding more than one function to a room. Like, you may want your bathroom to double up as a gym when you’re not taking a bath. So how about you get the Roca Active & Relax Bathroom? It’s this luxurious room where the sunken bath is really sunken, invisible till you don’t open up the floorboards. No windows too, instead 3 floor-to-ceiling LCDs giving you the illusion of a panoramic view.

Still not satisfied? How about we give you a bathroom where the screens are connected to the Home PC so that you can watch movies as you laze in the double bathtub, or take a shower in the rainfall! Super sex-citing!

Pratt, in a crazy scheme to promote its students, alumni and faculty, recently outfitted two Brooklyn condos on the corner of 3rd and Bond Street with every manner of design paraphernalia, invited a bunch of people and put up an open bar. Color me there. Drawing on past and present Pratt faculty and students like Eva Zeisel and Tucker Viemeister, the spaces came alive with conscious, inventive, often green, always cool design.

The space of the upper apartment above uses the Dual Height Bench from David Zachary as a delightfully geometric centerpiece surrounded by a one-of-a-kind lounge from Eva Zeisel as well as cardboard chairs from CardboardDesign. In a similar nod to cardboard, the winerack from Anthony Caradonna and Pratt architecture students (below) will contrast nicely with your expensive wine and if the recycled cardboard doesn’t assuage your eco-guilt, its alcoholic contents surely will.

One of my personal favorites, the Array Series from Pratt alumnus Jason Pfaeffle (above), will appeal to any former K’nex fans who can’t resist taking apart their furniture and putting it back together as they like. Evoking similar focus on user interaction, the Rosebud Felt Bowl from alumnus Diane Ruengsorn below has the user snap the bowl together using a magnets embedded in a single piece of industrial felt.

Also displaying a selection of fine art from the school, the Laser Bed Prints (above) were captured from the Architecture department’s often used laser cutting machine by Pratt professor Mark Parsons and transferred to Homasote, rendering otherwise discarded scraps into something beautiful. Using the same laser cutting process, Anthony Caradonna cut away the disarming lamp shades (below) which, standing erect by their own cylindrical structure, are simply placed over a bare lightbulb.

Finally, seeing Pratt alum Harry Allen’s C’mere Hand Hook in person, holding a Timex watch from Evo Design, confirms every suspicion I had, it is indeed as creepy in person as it is on the ‘tubes. If anyone in the Brooklyn area has an interest in the condo’s and between 300 and 900 large burning a hole in their pocket, drop by Third and Bond, for those less filthy rich I would suggest the newly opened Yanko Store.

I’m gonna go ahead and start out here by guessing your life could use a bit more ZAZ. Everybody could use a bit more ZAZ in their life, if you think about it. And that’s why Nooka has decided to name their new master-stroke the ZAZ. It’s a watch for 2010, with wacky / amazing features such as this: a completely transparent mineral crystal lens face. What’s that mean? It means you can see right through it. ALSO it means it appears to be displaying time directly on your wrist!

You’re no longer on time, time is on you.

If you’ve seen Nooka watches before you’ll recognize some features and aesthetics the same as before. The four vertical bars, for example. Additional items include a green LED light function, time, date, and a lovely butterfly clasp.

Feature: Chronograph and alarm
Size: 45 x 35 x 8 mm / 22mm wide band
Water resistant to 5ATM

Three models: Silver face with black or white leather bands, or a silver mesh band.

Oh so fashionable, oh so you.

See the time, weather, and cooking channel, or just go all-out Back to the Future style and watch three different television shows at once. Made actually for the extra busy family that needs to see multiple screens at once, the “Active Lifestyle Television” tends to the needs of three screen-needing family members or folds up into one giant screen for that one giant football dad in the group.

Other uses: schedule for the day, main screen, tv guide. Football game, basketball game, hockey game. Baseball game, baseball game, baseball game. Olympic sport 1, Olympic sport 2, Olympic sport 3. Basically this television is for families with planned out schedules they’ve got to see on-screen and the sports fan.

The screen is a flexible LCD and it folds to either three different angled screens or one flat in the middle.

We’ve evolved from Walkman to iPod (plus whatever else there is, let’s be honest) and from wrist watch to cellphone-held-clock. Now. What would have happened if instead of the clock merging with the cellphone, the clock merged with the music device? We’ve got wrist tunes, contact!

Let’s have a short (or long!) discussion here about the combination of things. As things stand, the most common place I find people hold their time is in their cellphone. On their portable phone! Imagine that. I couldn’t have say, 15 year ago. I wouldn’t have believed you. What if things had gone differently than they have – what if instead, time stayed on your wrist, and music went there too?

This concept is called “Tick Tack Music Watch,” and I’ve got to say it’s pretty cute. Like a bunny rabbit cute. Designer A.Tnokovski plans on marketing it to “teens” and I think he’d be right.

I’m thinking as soon as phone service becomes as “free” as internet service, we go ahead and build that in to Tick Tack 2, and we’ll be in business.

Sometimes “long term parking” is another way of saying “your bike got jacked” – not this time though, this is a much better deal. It’s a bike rack concept, but better than that, it’s a long term bike rack, including safe storage, WC, showers, and lounge. This is precisely what a city like Minneapolis is starving for.

I currently live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and I can say without hesitation that this is a bike town. It’s a big city, one of two within miles of eachother, (we’re called the “Twin Cities,” perhaps you’ve heard of us,) full of bikes. Having stations like this instead of congested rails alongside coffee shops stunk up with the sweat of long-run armpits, well, that’d be great!

Especially between outlying areas and the big city center.

Read below for a little bit more info and ask questions! The designer of this project, Yinnon Lehrer, is watching, and I bet answers would be given upon request.
