2015 Electrolux Design Lab Part 3 – Vote and Win a trip to Helsinki

The creative inspirations seen in Part 1 and Part 2 of the 2015 Electrolux Design Lab showcase, leaves us beyond doubt that this year will see a tough competition for the top spot. Eventually, six shortlisted designers will make their way to Helsinki, to present their project in front of a live audience and eminent judges.

You can be a part of this party, simply vote and win a trip to Helsinki and catch the action live. Read through this final roundup of projects and interview with the semi-finalists below and then follow the instructions at the bottom of the page; make your choice and WIN!

Pure Life by Cristian Tomás Moyano

YD – What metrics are used to calculate the “vitality” of the plant within the device?

Moyano – It monitors limitations and excesses of 4 vital factors for optimal growing conditions: soil pH, moisture, sunlight and ambient temperature.

YD – What is your favorite color and why?

Moyano – White. It’s the sum of all colors, so I think it’s the more powerful color. It expresses strength, light, purity, positiveness, relax…

Symbiosis by João Brito

YD – What purification technology does the device use to clean the air?

Brito – Symbiosis uses air ionization technology that meets HEPA standards, combining simplicity with efficiency in order to provide cleaner oxygen.

YD – Are you a gamer? What, if any, games inspired your design?

Brito – Video game art and immersion always influenced my designs. Symbiosis was inspired by Age of Empires and Clash of Clans for their mechanics.

Echodream by Bruno dos Santos Pierosan

YD – How are scents recreated? Are any special substances or elements required to achieve this?

Pierosan – Through a cartridge of synthetically created esters, EchoDream will mix them and, then, create a infinity of smells.

YD – If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and what would you do there?

Pierosan – I would visit the New Zealand, give Gandalf a high-five, and learn more about the incredible landscapes of there! 😀

Sleep-D by Ah Jeong Han

YD – Without touching the sleeping baby, how does the device detect health stats such as heart rate, breathing and body temperature?

Han – That’s why I came up with new idea on stage 3. I also designed bend type that is like a sticking plaster to know more exactly the state of baby such as heart rate, body heat and so on.

YD – What do you do when you need inspiration?

Han – Whenever I need inspiration, I usually just draw anything such as any shape of thumbnail sketch and something abstract. Because I don’t need to think any other things in drawing and I can focus on only drawing. Also I can use what I draw in some day and I can use and develop it in the near future for my design.

Flows by Pascal Grangier

YD – How do the delicate Flowies move and navigate through the air and back to the base?

Grangier – Flowies take the best of the dandelions lightness and small blasts of air creates a smooth movement while staying tracked with the base!

YD – What question do you hate to answer?

Grangier – Hmm what about this one?! 🙂

Chavua by Tomas Blaha

YD – How does the product educate children who suffer from allergies?

Blaha – Chavua displays information from school subjects or information about dangerous allergens or air pollution via display or projection.

YD – What were your favorite/least favorite subjects in junior school?

Blaha – I preferred a Physical Education, and also Math for logic. On the other side was a History, because of dates.

Imaginarium by Larasati Purnomo

YD – What are some examples of the custom scents that users can select to enhance their environment?

Purnomo – Imaginarium can provide pleasant scent according to the customer’s wish, from calm natural wood scent, elegant lavender yo fresh lemonade. Perfecting your sleep ambient by smelling senses!

YD – Can you describe the last dream you had?

Purnomo – I dreamed that I met my old friend in beautiful park! When I was three years old, I had baby scoop owls named “bubu”. And I met him again last night. In beautiful park full with lavender, he’s hooting, and flying into me! And then we play together in the park. Dream sometimes awaken your sweet memory from the past.

Quadruple H by Jeongbin Seo

YD – What does the hologram feature add to the experience?

Seo – I got inspired by the hologram feature what the Ironman used in the film.

YD – If you had an endless supply of money, what would you do?

Seo – I would like to open up a design company which covers all kinds of design section and offers lovely designs for everyone.

Shake your air by Yi-Jun Chen

YD – Does the device do anything to purify the air when it is not being shaken?

Chen – It will change color according to the air quality situation to remind and inform people about the current air conditions. And when you scan the QR code, you will see the destruction of the world looks like.

YD – What is your favorite, non-electronic belonging?

Chen – I like natural, green and friendly design which not only satisfy the needs on the surface, but have the deeper meaning behind to evoke people’s friendly hearts.

Air Shield by Dominykas Budinas

YD – How is air circulated into the cabin of the stroller when it is not moving?

Budinas – The air circulation is caused by ventilators. New air gets inside the cabin, pushing the used one outside trough the valves.

YD – If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?

Budinas – If I could keep only five possessions, it would be a multifunctional knife, car, duct tape, good speakers and a computer.

Floud by Dávid Jurík

YD – How does Floud fly?

Jurík – Floud can fly but is not primary function. In the middle of the Floud is the fan that creates airflow through this device. Porous material of seat is airflow support.

YD – How do you spend your free time?

Jurík – I spend my free time with my girlfriend, improve my skills, learning new interesting things, workout, travel, relax or reading books.
