The VJ CAM is specifically designed for video journalists, but I think most of us can benefit from it. The idea is to cut down the crew who handle the videography…mostly due to the current recession. The camcorder is built as modules and can be configured in a manner that suits the journalist. Each function is contained within a different module and the modules can be simply connected and interchanged according the requirements.

And I love it too! The USB Watch is a simple way of carrying your memory stick in style. A 10-minute romp with the computer charges it enough to tell you the correct time for a week. What’s more, every time you hook it up it syncs in automatically with the computer’s time. The LED display shows you the current memory status at the touch of a button. I think it’s a clever integration of functionality and utility.

All said and done, printers are a nuisance on the desk! They take up too much space and hold elegance to ransom with their unruly wires. The ‘I’m Hanging Printer’ is the proposed solution by designer Marc JuHyun Cha. In his words, “this looks like an art object when it hangs on the wall. It doesn’t look like some ugly machine. It makes your work place more organized.” I rest my case.

Current life preserver designs are useful but don’t account for these simultaneous rescues. The D-Rescue Can is a rugby-ball shaped preserver, perfect for throwing, that separates into two pieces in the shape of a stingray which multiple people can hold onto, decreasing rescue time and saving lives.

The incredibly beautiful Icarus OLED Lights look ready to illuminate any dark spots in your life. Captivating and innovative, the lights seem to have a mind of their own. Seven wings on each side of the spine open and illuminate in a rhythmic dance and can be configured as per whim. It’s sure to make any factory floor come alive with design!
This thoughtful design is the result of an observation into human routine and our unique desire to organize objects. Certain objects like the dustpan, broom and waste-bin often get thrown in odd places or awkward corners, giving them a “homeless” feel or appearance. This combo solution focuses on the relationship of these 3 items, combining them into one codependent unit that looks as good as it is useful. Trust, it’s genius.

Hello! Sunshine! reminds me of the Sony Concept by the Nguyen Brothers. The difference is that the former is a nightlight and alarm clock while the latter is a music player. A thin solar panel lines the back of the lamp/clock and it attaches to any glass window using suction. Basically just keep it for charging on the window during the day and unhook as a nightlight at night. Once the alarm goes off, simply stick it on back for more daytime juice!

Finder is a two-part RFID Locator comprising of the main terminal and tab stickers. Basically you are supposed to stick the tracking stickers to objects that you tend to misplace often, like keys, phone, wallet etc. Configure the sticker with the appropriate label on the main terminal and you are set to use it. No more lost keys again, yay!

The Twirl hand held mixer is a thoughtful and intuitive redesign of the classic. A single dial controls OFF/ON functionality as well as the mixing speed to achieve the desired effect of folding, kneading, mixing, creaming, beating, whipping, or aerating. At rest, the mixer has a flat head that allows it to be put upside down over a bowl, ensuring that any leftover drops land back in the bowl.

The Swing shower system is based on a simple idea that draws conceptual parallels between the natural widening of water flow and similar shapes found in the amplified sound of brass instruments. The inspiration can be found in the conical shape of the shower head, but no matter your taste, in chrome and matte-black finishes it’s sure to compliment classic and contemporary bathrooms alike.

The Easy Read Thermometer is specifically designed for taking the temperature of babies. The idea may be old school of a strip, but the innovation is in the form of heat sensitive materials, sticky back and distinct LED display. Given that babies hate being poked and prodded, this sticky tape will do the trick effectively.

Apparently the reason why I ruined my camera battery in a short period of time was because I over charged it every time I plugged it on. I used to leave it charging for almost a day or because of my forgetfulness. This is why I resonate with designs like the Dialug that integrate a timer into the socket. So for gadgets that need 2-3 hours of charging, the timer automatically turns off the power supply once the time is up.
