Inspired by biomimicry & artificial intelligence, Autonomo is a fully autonomous vehicle designed to alleviate traffic congestion & maximize the use of existing road networks in large cities in a complex, synchronized system. Autonomo’s on-board computer will make real-time decisions to control direction, detect surrounding objects, anticipate events, and maintain awareness of the environment. Imagine each pod as an individual organism within a much larger pack. Can’t wait for this!

The Eclipse DECT Wireless Home Phone consists of a base unit and handset embedded together in a single and continuous ellipsoidal form factor. With no visible signs of a display or keypad, the Eclipse conforms to the minimalist school of thought in design. It features a crystal clear display and High Quality Duplex speakerphone, amongst other standard stuff. I like it!

Not Just a Paper Bag

Designer Casey Ng may have been inspired to create the BoxBag specifically as a quick and easy way of transporting and serving the Kiwi native’s famous New Zealand fish and chips, but I see many more practical applications for this clever design. An intuitive perforated strip around the bottom, rigid half of the bag can be removed in seconds, separating the top half and leaving a good-size container for serving the contents. Perfect for lunches, picnics or carrying anything else where easy access is beneficial.

Let the Dresser Do the Thinking

Snappy Dresser uses a system based on common sense reasoning that matches clothes styles and functions with the concepts needed for the context. The system returns suggestions for complete outfits and the selected outfit is recorded as the user’s feedback to the system’s recommendation for a particular occasion. For instance- a set of a set of clothes that the user initially selected for swimming will be matched to the activity and they will be suggested the next time swimming is the occasion.

One of the reasons why I adore Li Jianye’s works is his simplistic approach to design. Be it the original Flexibin or the iShelf; both exude charm, wit and thoughtful detailing. This time around he has a functional toy for us, The Telescup, a set of drinking glasses that coordinate to become an impromptu telescope. Now isn’t this what we call clever!

Power Blind!

The Liteon Eco Leaf is an amazing concept that replaces the traditional window blinds. The fabric used includes solar cells that recharge during the day, while blocking out the harsh sunlight at the same time. In the evening, the blinds emit ambient lights and jazzes-up the room. A delightful little display to one corner tells you the current room temperature. Quite a do-able concept if you ask me; kitsch and modern!

This goal of the MY50M mega-yacht was to develop a new trend in marine craft that might revolutionize the future design of other yachts to be both elegant and eye-catching. Straight lines, automotive shapes and a wave piercing stem design are the most striking features of the exterior as they add a sense of sportiness and power to the overall aesthetic.

No, your eyes aren’t seeing things! Just look a little closer and you’ll notice that the lamps of the Minimo series aren’t actually defying gravity; instead, each shade is supported by an acrylic base that faintly mimics the silhouette of familiar classic forms. Clear bases and interchangeable shades mean endless customization to fit both classic and contemporary settings.

The Sentire walking cane is the result of a study into visually impaired users’ preference between various tools for mobility including the standard cane and guide dog. Merging the advantages of each, this design features a carbon fiber body for reduced weight and extended life as well as enhanced ergonomics for a truly custom feel. Fine tuning these smalls details means complete comfort and added safety to this everyday necessity for the visually impaired.

Many Options to Time

The WRYST VARIANCE is a unique approach to wearing time. The digital face can take on a myriad of displays, some more novel than others, but variety is the key proponent here. The entire face can be removed and attached to straps, keychains, dog tags, etc.. And if those options weren’t enough, you get to choose from seven colors. I must be an old fogie because I’m actually missing the colors black and white.

The best thing about the Nokia GEM Concept phone is that it is all based on existing technologies, in other words it’s a future phone that can be built on reality! For example, one of the emerging technologies used in this concept are bi-stable displays that do not consume power if the content is not changing. This means the phone has a seamless display that encompasses the phone all over. The video below explains how digital personalization and multitasking can be achieved by using all sides of the phone.
