As a design student, my work is an iterative process, with a strong emphasis on material research + exploration. The Generation by Knoll chair epitomizes those kinds of explorations, with careful attention to details and use of materials to maximize comfort and efficiency — truly inspiration for my own work! The chair would inspire me to maintain flexibility, as it is so flexible itself, and incorporate that into my work.
JiWoong says
My school use these chairs in our computer lab and there is nothing like it. Staying up all night on this chair is no problem, just lean on this chair and my back stress is relieved ready to do more work. Every time when I’m on this chair makes me wish if i had one in my home.
Taylor says
I like the flexibility of chair that looks like a net protecting one’s back. I have a steel chair that has a weak frame and is stiff with its material. The Generation by Knoll chair looks comfortable with the human body, and also encourages me to have a flexible mind toward everyday challenges!

The chair looks so comfortable and well designed to adjust to a large number of body types. It’s design and material choices making it flexible is really intriguing. Sometimes I forget how having a desk can inspire to create and be productive, but what good is a desk without a comfortable sturdy chair? The Generation by Knoll chair can be just the thing to make you sit in front of your work space and just create. It is a silent motivation tool to get things done, be creative and just DO!
Natalie says
I love how comfortable, flexible, and study the chair looks! I’m at the computer so much, and having a solid and comfortable chair would be great.
Mark says
I like how it’s designed to fit the user no matter what shape or form they are or choose to embody, instead of forcing the user to mold to some rigid definition of “proper shape”. I can use this concept in my work.
Steve says
I would love a chair that doesn’t result in my legs falling asleep every day. My current chair is so bad, I have to constantly change positions to alter which leg is asleep. Also the vinyl on the arms is cracked and sharp and I constantly scrape my elbows on it. Oh, I almost forgot, it also randomly decides to lower itself about an inch every 10 seconds or so until it bottoms out. This chair would be a FANTASTIC upgrade!
Jonathan Cohlmeyer says
The chair would make me more comfortable when sitting over long periods of time and allow me to lose myself in my creative work more and more, thus allowing me to be more creative when the ‘creative juices’ start flowing. … as I will not be distracted by discomfort.
Patty Vera says
I want this chair! It’s perfect! The way it bends can allow me to work in collaborative areas or I would use it in a private office; to adjust it as I please through out the day, and would allow me to work the way I feel, Awesome!!!

If I don’t have a good comfortable and supportive chair, my back hurts. I think this chair is just what I need to be comfortable all day so I can concentrate on my work better.
Tom F. says
I heard a quote this morning from John Jay of Wieden+Kennedy and it really resonates with the design of this chair. He is talking about his relationship with clients.
“…Listen carefully, understand and be empathetic to the truth of who they are. To understand their soul, understand their soul and then make that soul relevant to a greater number of people.”
I think the designers of this chair really understands the designers fidgety soul and it would be inspiring to be able to sit and interact with this amazing design on a daily basis.
Gabriel says
There is nothing worse for productivity than hurting all day while you work. Having a chair like this would both relieve that problem and inspire me to work harder to make my interfaces adapt to the user in an unobtrusive way.
Kristine says
So many other chairs force you to sit a certain way, and usually that way is uncomfortable. With this new chair you can sit and work however you want AND be comfortable. Just the design itself inspires creativity. It has no limits, and therefore when you are working in it, you have to freedom to move and be creative with no limits as well. It’s simply amazing.
Jingle says
The amazing design reminds me that nothing is too simple to be fabulous and the comfort allows me to continue to be focused as I create!

I’ve fidgeted in chairs since grade school, and I haven’t found a solution outside of taking breaks, which extends work hours into the night. I’m more mentally agile when I move, and having a chair that can accommodate will make my days in front of my typewriter (no internet distraction) more fruitful — I hope to start my productivity goal of 1,000 words before my morning coffee.

This chair would inspire me because it would be better on my back, then I would be comfortable. When I am comfortable I relax and then my creative juices can start flowing
Graham says
As an avid good-posture proponent, this chair would allow me to lean back and stare out of the skylight without worrying about the damage I’m doing to my back. I am inspired by the sky and clouds, and being able to observe them while being so close to my computer would let me capture the ideas freely as they flow through my conscoiusness. This chair would be a beautiful and functional aid to my physically, emotionally, and creatively healthy lifestyle.
Kathy says
I’ve got back issues and this chair would be great for that! I would be way more productive!
Kel says
The Generation Chair allows me to move freely throughout the office and allows me the flexibility and creativity to use the chair in a way that best suits my needs. I work long hours and with the Generation chair I can work without an aching back as a result of a poorly designed chair.
Deezy says
Beautiful for information. Inspiration for meditation. Divine love in the form of a chair.
ccoene says
I’ve been known to sit cross legged, Indian style, Japanese style, tailor style, Turkish style, knees up, knees down, forward, backward, slouching, stooping, on one leg, on two legs, squatting, kneeling, sprawled out, slumped over, and stretched out just to get comfortable in my work chair. Because the Generation chair is so versatile, it would allow me to sit, stretch, and collaborate more comfortably than ever.
Crystal Lee Jordan says
Bending, twisting, leaning back. Wondering if my chair will hold. Am I sitting up straight enough? I absolutly wonder too often. It’s scary lol. Seriously though, I have work to do. I need to focus on the task at hand in a healthy chair.
Earththing says
Oooh! Perfect for my home office. I could sit up, lean back, sit with my legs crossed, oh the possibilities! I am not sure I will want to get up.
Mike says
Just seeing this chair and it’s beautiful design ironically makes me want to get out of the office and do something original…but there will always be paperwork to take care of no matter how inspired I may get.
Kevin says
My current office chair- http://imgur.com/YkF8M Productivity and professionalism go hand in hand while form and function are often separate. Without all four of these qualities working in harmony I am limited and my productivity is stifled. A chair is as much a tool for me as a screwdriver is for a mechanic and my screwdriver is broken.
BRian says
Knowing that my spine is happy allows the rest of my nervous system to function at its pique.
Lauren says
It would inspire me to actually get more schook work done, as well as my own personal writing….My back hurts really easily, so this would be amazing!!
Jim K says
It’s actually been quite difficult to find the perfect chair for myself, being 6’3″ . I ended up buying a nice big chair a few years ago, but its becoming less comfortable. Having the perfect chair allows me to sit longer and get more work or studying done.
Tyson Haverkort says
I work in a tight area, frequently reaching behind me, over, and under my desk. This chair looks like it might ease the pain a little bit.
maegan spencer says
It keeps me comfortable without making me look like I’m piloting a space ship! Beautiful combination of style and ergonomics.
Morgan McBratney says
As a designer, I sit in front of multiple computer screens all day, every day. The ergonomics of my chair are crucial to my state of mind and ability to focus on my work and not my aches and pains associated with poor support. I need a chair that will “Generate” to my positions and form, not vice versa.
RD says
Put these in a meeting room, now when we have to do a long, very boring meeting at least we are comfortable. Actually some of the designers take them out and use them at their desks, ticks you off when you have to go search them down to put back in for a meeting. Great chair that allows people to think, stretching their imaginations instead of think about their aching backs and lower.
caitlin says
I’m a professional photographer and this would be a perfect desk chair for me.
I’ve been in search of one for quite a while….even more so now that I’m having neck issues since I can’t find the right chair. This chair would inspire me to be more creative because it would allow me to be more comfortable while I edit my photographs and not have to take as many breaks. Just like you say “simply drape yourself elegantly on it” inspires me to even use it to photograph clients on it!
Deborah L. Roberts says
With ease and grace we breeze through our days, comfortably exchanging places in this comfortable styling chair, our bodies, minds, and souls able to stretch to their delight.
racergirl1313 says
Sadly, like many of us, I spend a lot of my day sitting. I do move around a lot while sitting and this chair would certainly help that. I also think the design of the chair would inspire me to keep my desk and office tidy and more creatively decorated. Thanks!
Eduardo Anguiano says
I am a high school teacher with a herniated disk in my back which makes sitting for long periods of time uncomfortable. It becomes difficult to sit at my desk and grade papers or lesson plan if I do not have a comfortable chair. The chair I have now is decent but falling apart and I will need to replace it fairly soon. I think with the use of this chair I can sit comfortably and not worry about the pain in my back as I grade papers and lesson plan.
Kate says
The chair would help me think more creatively. Being uncomfortable while you’re working is a huge distraction and I can get distracted easily. This would help me focus on what I am doing instead of how I should be sitting.

Being an IB student in high school, the amount of time I spend sitting at my desk is endless. It is definitely hard to focus on that next essay or assignment when your sitting on a wooden chair from an old dining set. I’ve tried sitting on my bed to do homework, but that usually induces sleeping. So here is my plea, please let me have this amazing chair, I could really use it, plus it would look amazing in my room. Thanks for the chance to win.

As a chicken restaurant designer the comfort of this chair would allow me to spend more time doing mundane tasks such as reviewing finish schedules and ADA clearances. In short, it would save me.
layton says
Seating should be about more than sitting.
I refuse to conform to my chair. FIT ME it demands. “Fit Me” begins the fight for space as I’m squeezed in, further under my desk, the arms of the chair rising too high to fit closer, to close to turn.
My colleague asks for something but I’m stuck again. Wedged in, unable to turn. “FIT ME” says the steel arms against my elbows. “Fit me” says the board against my back. “Fit me” groans the hinge as I recline to reach across the desk, knocking over a coffee on the way. Napkins! They’re in my drawer but may as well be in a lock-box. With my chair wedged up against the drawer and stuck under the desk in the only place close enough to work from; the spilled cup inches around piles of papers, under the keyboard into my lap. No way to stop it. Wiggling in my chair, trying to escape, it creaks back, mocking my struggle.
“FIT ME!” I yell, to no avail, tired and sore, my back aching and it’s only 3:00.
Note – Stationary: a great word for paper, a bad word for a chair.

The Generation by Knoll chair inspires me to work more creatively by reminding me what good product design is all about: A product should empower its user and fade into the background.
The Generation by Knoll chair empowers it’s user by allowing them to sit comfortably, in any position, for long periods of time. This alleviates thoughts of “My back hurts” and “I’m uncomfortable” allowing the user to think about their work and not about the chair they are sitting in.
Dan Pollack says
The Generation by Knoll chair inspires me to work more creatively by providing a constant example of what great design can be. Good looking, comfortable, and functional. I can relax and think with a chair like this.

This chair is like Cirque de Soleil, visually stimulating, warmly comforting, and exciting, all at once. This chair promises to adapt to you like an old shoe or pair of old jeans, yet looks like James Bond in a Tuxedo in Las Vegas. What a great chair! I work 6 to 7 days a week in my office, and I like to move around a lot. Sometimes lounging in front of my window with a paper I’m reading, sometimes at my desk if I’m on my lap top, sometimes leaning back with my feet propped up talking with a colleague. A chair like this would inspire me to be excited to be at work. What new position will I find today? Like a mattress, it’s amazing that we don’t invest more thought and money into the chairs we sit in for so much of our lives!

Seeing something that is both incredibly functional as well as pleasing to the eye at gives me hope for this world. I don’t have one, but my fiance does at his studio and I’ve sat in it. I am a high school teacher and the chair is beautiful, functional, and supportive. If my students are driving me crazy I could just sit down in it for a minute and gain new power like Iron Man.
Thijs says
As only North American contestants can acutally win, there is no use for my to give a quality answer, so here is the answer instead:
Whilst playing with myself I want to be as comfortable as possible, so I can focus my mind solely on the erotic display going on on the display in front of me. The Generation Chair makes that possible. Bringing mastrubation to a new level of satisfaction that wasn’t possible to reach before.
VEE says
I don’t think I can comment on this chair without actually using it . It’s beautiful though.
Thomas says
Creativity is viewing things differently than others, the Generation Chair by Knoll allows for different positions, styles and conditions to get ideas flowing. All focus should be on thinking of ideas, not how uncomfortable you are. To be the best, you need the best. Cheers
Greg says
They say a chair is still a chair even though there’s no one sitting there. But in this case, it’s an outlet for talent.
Sung says
Being a creative means taking client feedback, conforming them into your presentation, but without changing your ideas, and making them think they thought of it. This chair will definitely help me conform in more ways than one.

As I get older, I realize how important a good chair is! This chair inspires me to work creatively because I’ll be so comfy, I won’t be thinking about my chair!
Peter says
Good design is when something becomes so essential, so simple, but at the same time, so intuitive that you don’t think, you just do.
I came across the Generation Chair a few weeks ago in the store. When I first saw it, I didn’t think too hard about it. It looked like just about any other chair that costs north of a few hundred. But I didn’t really understand the design until I sat in it.
I didn’t feel overwhelmed, I didn’t have fifteen knobs to adjust and I didn’t have to change my posture to fit the chair. The experience wasn’t about that. It wasn’t about the color of the trim or the proportions of the legs. It became about forgetting that I was in a chair. A good chair shouldn’t be more than a chair–we should be able to use it without difficulty, without thought.
I thought to myself, “Wow, these guys really get it.”
It was the first chair that I have ever sat in where the point wasn’t the chair–the point was being able to turn fifteen pounds of steel, plastic, and fabric and make an invisible cushion that did exactly what I wanted it to do, without communication and without thought.
Truly great design is about being able to understand what a product is supposed to do, and making the choices that make that happen. It’s a rare thing now, but when something so essential, so simple, yet so intuitive and so powerful, it becomes truly amazing.
Whether it be in my own work, or in the work of others, understanding a powerful force that drives us to make things simpler, more powerful, yet more intuitive, is a key to unlocking better designs.
The Generation Chair inspires me dive deeper, to understand. But most importantly, it inspires me to understand that truly great design is quite simply, the most amazing thing ever.

Andrea says
The unusual shape of the chair reminds me to think outside of the box.
Paul says
A chair that embodies the idea of “Work and Play”. A designer can only concentrate on one task for so long without losing interest. Play and fun are necessary parts of design and show how if one gets too caught up in the project, there is no real fun or enjoyment from the task. The Generation Chair refreshes the mind by providing a necessary break and distraction.
dennis says
Finally, a way to break free from the constraints of a chair! Every constraint removed from my life allows me to devote more energy to creative pursuits. A chair of freedom like this certainly goes a long way to that end.
Myrto says
The ergonomy of the Knoll chair would facilitate my moves so that my eyes escape from my computer’s screen and focus on the paper tray, window, back wall and above all the ceiling. That’s when my most creative ideas start generating.
Ryan says
Looks so comfortable. It appears this chair forms to you instead of vice versa with so many other office chairs. A sore-free back would make anyone’s work more enjoyable!

Steve Jobs’ recent biography illustrates his demand for perfection by simply not purchasing products he did not feel were awe inspiring. I have a feeling he would appreciate the simplicity and flexibility of the Generation’s design.

When I am on the verge of thinking up an awesome algorithm, I tend to sit in some awkward positions. This chair will let me stay focused on my thoughts, and not the chair I am sitting on.
Emenari says
Finally a chair that inspires me to inspire.
zack says
Absolutely incredible… it is such a simplistic thought that everyone possesses and has FINALLY been manufactured into a beautiful reality. It is adaptive to our environment and the ever changing human mood. It would be an experience in itself to let go in this chair, yet, still receive the support and comfort I need every day.
Thank you for giving the people what we have wanted for decades.

I work with under-performing urban schools helping them use data to inform their instruction practices. My work requires me to take something as mundane as interim assessments inspiring, so that schools can close the achievement gap that exists in schools. The Generation Chair, takes something as typically mundane as office furniture and makes it inspiring. It will also let me sit for hours and stay fresh for school leaders all hours of the day.
Taylor Schaffer says
This is my first year out of college, at a desk job. I was so used to being on the go, all the time, and now I’m sitting at my desk 8 hours a day. A comfy chair is the best for letting your mind get creative!
Catherine says
I sit in strange positions while working. I love the idea behind this chair! May I have it please!?!
ashley says
An office chair affects creativity in two ways. One, you must be comfortable to truly be creative. Two, your office must look creative in order to be inspiring. The Knoll chair is beautifully designed.
Morgan says
the generation moves with the modern day worker. as a designer, I can’t stress enough to my clients (and loved ones!) that springing for a great task chair is worth every penny. When you’re focused on work, you don’t want to be interrupted by an achey back! Knoll makes it look good
Sarah Crutchfield says
During my summer spent interning at Knoll, I was given the privilege of sitting in a Generation Chair daily. I could relax in it as I enjoyed my morning cup of coffee, lean back to stretch as the afternoon wore on, and easily turn around to converse with a coworker. The Generation chair allowed me the flexibility I needed to comfortably perform the sometimes mundane tasks of an intern. The Generation chair is incredibly comfortable, and its broad range of bold colors and patterns allows the mind to focus on things other than backaches and numb backsides. The Generation chair truly does foster creativity, by making the time spent sitting, more comfortable, and hence, more productive.
Sandy says
I am so in awe of the design of this chair that it would have to get my creative juices flowing!
Caitlyn says
I sit in front of my computer about 40 hours of my 50 hour work week. I sit and type, I sit and analyze, I sit and calculate and I sit and contemplate. It appears to me that this chair will make all of those tasks more pleasant. It’s the simple things in life!
Paul says
The chair inspires me to stay comfortable during long sessions of work.

It looks like comfortable, durable, and reliable as far as I know. I’ve been sitting in a chair for about 10 hours a day as a freelancer, and If it is with me, it gets me to come up with really wonderful ideas. Best ever.

When I’m thinking or getting inspiration I need to be in movement, this chair is perfect to accomplish that!
Brian Pemberton says
“Good enough” is never good enough! – Compromise is the killer of innovation. Having a Generation by Knoll in my office would be a constant reminder to challenge and push the boundries, look at things in a new light and never settle for second best.
Caprice says
Everyone has been forced to work in confined, rigid workspaces at some point or other. Whether in the form of a school desk or a folding chair, it becomes rapidly apparent that most of one’s focus is directed at the discomfort caused by the chair rather than the task at hand. For anyone concentrating, artists especially, freedom of body and freedom of mind are one and the same; a constraint of movement restricts creative thought. A chair as adaptive to the human body as the Knoll Generation, married elegantly with sleek, breathable, futuristic design, is guaranteed to not only free your thoughts, but catalyze and channel them for you. With a chair like this, my designing process would be easier than ever.
John C. says
The Generation chair inspires me to think about things as opportunities to be playful while still retaining a strong purpose: it takes away the shackles or rigidity oft associated with a task chair, and allows you to sit as you please… While still being comfortable and supported. Somethig to aim for as a designer!

The Generation Chair is very inspiring. The design itself is very creative and makes me want to reach new heights. With this chair, I’m able to lean back and look up to the ceiling or the sky to ponder new ideas.
Lot says
This chair would help me be more creative by finally allowing me to sit and work on a project for longer than an hour. Blessed with quite some weight on my front side, sitting on my college provided dorm chair is a dramatic strain on my back. Add some early developed arthritis to the mix and you can imagine that sitting in one position for me isn’t fun. I am a drawer and I prefer fine materials like pen and ink, but it’s impossible for me to work on something for an extended period. Imagine; as soon as my inspiration and creative flow have finally warmed up to full force, I have to stop and stretch and walk. My back is nothing less than a Rubik’s cube! Help a fellow creative mind out and I’ll try to make the world a little prettier where I can
Gemini says
This chair will help me relax better, especially since it lets people lean back on it. A rested body and mind would be better motivated to do work.

this chair encourages creativity by facilitating easy collaboration with neighboring coworkers.. it allows for the sharing of ideas and conversation

The Generation by Knoll Chair creates a productive environment where you can think outside of the norm in order to generate truly unique and progressive ideas that change the way we gather and interpret data. Whether you are the CEO of a major corporation or are a data analyst you can dive into work and produce better than expected results.
Jeff Y. says
This chair would be great because eating bananas in one position is never fun, therefore I can eat my banana in a new and novel way enabling my neurons to interconnect at increased rates providing my brain with a boost of energy that I may use to travel the universe with (in my imagination). BOOM
Shree says
I’ve never owned an ergonomic chair before (since students can only afford so many possessions), but I really want this one. Oh, the things I’d do to it…with it… sitting innocently.
Garrett says
Well, considering it would be infinitely better than the one I have now, I would be more focused, I could sit in a variety of positions, allowing me to focus on my subject, as opposed to my butt hurting, and I could actually put one leg up and hold my sketchpad, something I can’t do without pain pain pain in my current desk chair. Also the spinning. So much spinning. Creativity-fueling spinning.
Titus Dimson says
Simple I’m a architecture student pulling all nighters requires an ergonomic chair to stay awake to keep those design juices flowing

This chair inspires and gives you the confidence to work all day. It takes advantage of materials and processes in a way most chairs don’t. Support and flexibility just where you need it and the modern style I love! I need this in my life!!

The different sitting positions possible with this chair keeps creativity flowing. Different posture is conducive to different state of mind, so when stuck on a problem or facing writer’s block, just change the way you sit and open up new flow of ideas.

Looks like I won’t have a sweaty back anymore. Sweet. Who can do their best work with a sweaty back? Am I right? Huh? Huh?

HOW THE PADDING ON THE SEAT? THE ONES AT MY WORK SUCKS.. BUT I LOVE THE BACK SUPPORT…
Tomo says
The Knoll chair makes people discuss with fun, solve problems and create deep interaction among coworkers. The body is no longer in a stiff form; it can move freely to reduce stress and increase fun. With a freed body, the mind is also freed. The mind and body are then in sync. The stiffness is gone. Now one can stretch fully without any restraints. They can twist and turn freely while thinking and brainstorming. They can finally be creative again.

My dream affair
A new guest came into our building. Her name was Nora and she instinctively caught my eye. I was drawn to her instantaneously. Her characteristic quickly became my inspiration. She was stylish and refreshing. Like a sponge, she soaked up my daily distress and transformed them into ideas. She listened and comforted me; her mind was so elastic. I felt calm and relaxed at her presence. I couldn’t felt tiredness. She gave me energy and the freedom to be myself. She was different. She made the impossible possible. She made me feel young and optimistic again. She was my new Generation by Knoll chair.
Love
