The Time Guards

Every year at the Festival of Lights, Berlin’s world-famous landmarks and monuments are dressed in spectacular light by international artists and lighting designers. Featured at this year’s event is this installation by designer Manfred Kielnhofer- the Time Guards play with the concept of space and sculpture and are an ominous and enchanting reminder of the power of mysticism

Upside Down Top Light

I’m all for anything inspired by familiar fragments, like this design by Minwoo Lee. Top Lighting is an attractive pendant lamp that subtly takes the form of the traditional Korean spinning top toy. The ash wood accent connecting the electrical wire and steel shade makes a great accent that transforms an otherwise generic aesthetic into an elegant and harmonious blend of materials.

Because I Love to Scan

I love the idea of taking the scanner to the book rather than the other way around. Let me explain, my children have to often scan and print images and information for school projects. Many a times the books are these heavy encyclopedias (downloading from the internet is not the same as hardcopy books), and trying to scan fat books is troublesome. The concept Scan Board offers an easy solution; it captures the image of the page and transfers it to the computer via USB. Easy and no trouble at all!

Ergonomic Chopp-ing

I hate the process of chopping ingredients while cooking so I rely heavily on those German contraptions that you see on teleshopping networks. However there are times when I envy the kitchens of Masterchief and all those glossy tools and equipments that the participants get to use. The Chopp – chopping board looks fit enough to be in one of the shows. It’s a board with interchangeable functionality and features a hollow base to hold all the chopped food.

It’s All In the Name

I’m loving this design! Featured at Moscow Design Week 2011 with other objects showcasing organic architecture, Alexander Ceron’s Beautiful Mess chair represents symbiosis between technology and nature. Completely unrecognizable as a chair, it looks almost lifelike, that is… until someone’s sitting. Hmmm, I think I just got inspiration for the next place I furnish!

Don’t Mess With This Tea Set

This tea set has got a nasty attitude in all the right ways. Designer José Paulo Alves Corceiro was inspired to design a set of china that wasn’t boring or dainty, and the Nasty Set is anything but. The porcelain set’s grimacing faces and unorthodox shape recall the iconography of comics, animated film, and video games. Look a little Pac-Man to me!

Little Boo, Whole Lotta Bend

The natural bamboo and matte-black metal of the  Bendboo table lamp come together to make one sleek looking lighting accessory. The polished bamboo perfectly matches the curve of the metal frame and can slide up and down to adjust the angle of light emitted by two embedded LEDs.

Big Sexy Yacht

The 46m E-Yacht’s unique Ramform Banff hull makes it’s 20m beam more than double that of traditional 46m yachts. The reason? More room to play! Powered by a diesel electric propulsion system, the ship’s innovative hull provides more interior space while maintaining efficiency. The fluid top surface softens the gargantuan exterior aesthetic and maximizes the use of the upper deck.

A Perfect Warm Weather Chair

The only thing I don’t like about Ben Fredriksson’s Crossover Chair is that it reminds me that summer is almost over! The folding ash chair gives a nod to traditional forms but in a fun, minimal, and multicolored style. Ergonomic and weather-proof, they’re an all-around great simple summer chair.

Point & Shoot Tablet Pen

As digi-painting application technology expands, so does the need for digital artistry tools. The Chromopen concept makes choosing colors for matte-painting a cinch. The user simply points and shoots the Chromopen’s built-in camera to catch colors directly from the scene they’re painting, simultaneously broadening their understanding of color tones. Genius!

The Lunar Influence on Time

The Moonshine is inspired by the phases of the moon and can depict the entire lunar process of new moon to the eclipse, in one go. On the face of it is the clock and behind it is a timed lamp that mimics the moonlight from moonrise to moonset. For the star signs influenced by the moon, this looks to be quite a soothing lamp/clock combo to have around. I totally want one!
