Ergonomic Aviation Headset

Ergonomic Aviation Headset

I know I’m not alone when I say I want my pilot on my next flight to be as comfortable, rested, and confident as possible. Understanding the importance of clear speech, hearing, and comfort of a pilot’s communication headset, BMW Group DesignworksUSA created this customizable system that fuses ergonomics, audio functionality, and a streamlined interface for a comfortable, relaxed, and safe flying experience.

Timely Steeping

Timely Steeping

I am in love with the Tea-time tea steeper for its intuitive design and simplistic interaction between tea leaves, water and steeping time! A flipping action, akin to starting the timer, sets the tea making process into action. Loose tealeaves and hot water do their steeping business and the ready tea slowly trickles down to the bottom beaker. The timer/filter hold back the leaves and your cuppa is ready to sip!

Ant-proof Your Bin

Ant-proof Your Bin

Inspired by how a moat can keep enemies at bay, designer Shu-Hsuan Chang has come up with the Anti-Ants Trash Can to keep the ants and other pests away from the bin. The wide base of the bin is designed like a moat and is lined with disposable sticky tape. So when the pests try to crawl up the bin, their tiny legs get stuck onto the tape and are hence trapped! How clever! You can easily tear off each layer of insects-stuck-on-tape, to expose a fresh new layer of sticky tape! For flies I guess we can place a Venus Flytrap nearby.

Bike of Prey

Bike of Prey

I love a wild-inspired design, especially when its influence is so obvious. The BMW Ghost is a glimpse into what the next generation of motorcycles will look like, and it goes without saying that animate-aesthetics are already starting to trend especially when it comes to vehicles and bikes (love it). Don’t let the gentle snowy white with blue detailing fool you- there’s a 1600 cc, 6 cylinder engine wrapped in that complex body. I’d name mine Hedwig.

Squish, Splash, and Waft Lighting

Squish, Splash, and Waft Lighting

This series of interactive light objects by Viktor Alexander Kölbig aims to strengthen the relationship between object and user through light sources that not only illuminate the space they occupy but capture the users interest through a variety of unique interfaces and physical interactions like “smooshing” the smooth textile surface of the Seide lamp or stirring water in the Water Light to control power, color, and intensity.

Drafting Tools for the Serious Designer

Drafting Tools for the Serious Designer

Though traditional drafting is a dying art, it is a common experience that many designers can trace to the beginning of their careers. This collection celebrates how these tools are not just products of engineering, but design objects in their own right. These objects were developed with focuses on quality engineering, usability and placement as premium objects. The elements of each piece are united through a common visual language, while each tool also reflects its unique function.

One Big Digital Scroll Wheel

One Big Digital Scroll Wheel

It’s inevitable, the television is becoming a computer, at least in the sense that it can now access more than just broadcast information. We’re no longer just changing volume and channels. The Baand Remote is a solution to how one might interact with this evolved TV. It’s basically one big scroll wheel. You flick across your content. The gesture is more fluid and intuitive. Everything else happens on a contextual UI that changes based on what you’re doing. Video after the jump.

Hot Tub Beauty

Hot Tub Beauty

Care for a soak in the luxurious Charme Bathtub? It’s got a curvy finish that matches your body contours with perfect sensuality. Designed with purposeful armrests that integrate the water controls, the look of the tub is akin to a comfortable lounge sofa. Ergonomic and dynamic; the only thing missing is some inbuilt massage system to make it a complete spa experience! I want one.

Enchanting Doorlight

Enchanting Doorlight

There is something very instinctive about finding your way to the door of a room during blackouts. Based on this instinct, it will be so clever to integrate a flashlight into the handle, so that you have an emergency light handy, wherever you need it. I love the LEDoorHandle, which is based on this simple idea! It doubles up as light sensor mood lights for those who like to indulge in fancy fittings. And the system uses the locking-motion of the handle to harness and charge the lithium batteries of the flashlight.

Virtual Connection

Virtual Connection

For centuries the rope has been a symbol of community, friendship, and interpersonal communication. Inspired by the icon, the designers of Rope Revolution, a rope-based gaming system, identified popular rope games from around the world, incorporating them into a tangible rope interface where the focus is collaborative play. A compact motion-sensing and force-feedback module allows users to jump rope, fly a kite, ride a horse and a number of physical activities that connect players across virtual spaces.

Simple and Timeless Furniture

Simple and Timeless Furniture

When it comes to furniture, I love pieces that are organic in form but sharp enough to fit into the starkest of spaces. This line of furniture by escapefromsofa achieves this balance through style characterized by simplicity, and natural shapes in warm walnut and oak. The bookshelf, stool, side table and chair each have clear Scandinavian influence expressed through phenomenal craftsmanship.

Static Dust

Static Dust

Du.Static is the combination of dust and static and its main objective is to rid your room of dust particles. A magic wand kinda stick attracts all dust to it using static electricity and deposits it into the holding trash when the charge is out. The main unit doubles up as an air purifier and indicates the air-quality via the LED indicator. I like it for its sleek looks and moreover my Pottermania isn’t over yet. Maybe I can practice some spells with it…like Repello Dusto!
