Saved by the Glow

The scene is a fire in a highrise and the ensuing chaos can make it difficult for people to locate exits. In such scenarios, the Light Emitting Door could mean the difference between life or death. A bright LED located at the foot of the door  directs people to a hinged shutter, kinda like a doggy door. I think its a neat idea and worth installing.

Light Emitting Door is a 2010 Red Dot Concept Award winning design.

do you really think if you were on fire you would take the time to bend down and crawl out the doggie door instead of just pushing the emergency door open?!

Because of the smoke, you're already crawling. Learn to read, there's very little text.

Yes, because even rising up to open the door could give you smoke inhalation!

agreed, couldnt u push the door open even if ur kneeling? seems like an expensive sollution in terms of cost and security considering that people could use these flaps to break in…

Why are they running up stairs to get away from a fire?

If the bottom floor was on fire, or the fire was blocking that exit, I doubt I'd try and escape through it.

i agree with you about that, but i am sure an alarm would be attached to it. you could push the door and the door would usually close on its own anyway, but at least with this it allows people to go down the steps with less smoke.

Good idea in theory however my first thought is a 300 pound man trying to get through there getting stuck and everyone burning to death

Nice design and idea, sadly it wouldn’t work in the states, given that the majority of its citizens are obese. Or maybe it also work as a filter, so that only healthy people survive LOL XD
