How many people you know are so devoted to a single design that they build their whole company, their whole life around it? A designer by the name of Jonathan Ward has done just that, having started a business with his wife Jamie that turned into the nations leading Land Cruiser Service center in 1996, they eventually caught the eye of My. Toyoda who asked them to create three running prototypes of what became the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser.

Take a peek at this record player. It’s the kind that plays vinyl records, the 12″ kind, and it does it well with only the bare minimum. Fantastical! It’s called “Turnstyle” and it’s made up of the motor, the needle, the speakers, and the controls. What more do you need? It’s a skeleton of its former self, and not former as in it was stripped, former as in there’s no reason to ever go back to more!

This bike comes in red, white, or black, like any good motorcycle should. Its description is presented to us as a mostly poetic sort of situation, naming “Style&Skills” as a main point, noting soft lines around a technological core, saying that this motorcycle concept, the Ducati Spite, has two souls. One of the souls is extreme simplicity, they say, and the other, a full detailed concept. Like the black and white of the wheels.

Separating rubbish is time consuming and nobody likes to do it. A micro-level system to make the job easy is the Trash Classification Bin. The bin-in-bin is used to put in all your organic waste while the bigger bin holds inorganic stuff. A very non-messy and quick way to do your bit. I’ll take one for my office, please.

To reduce the volume of paper waste with hang tags, take a look at the MELT TAG. New clothes are actually coated in chemicals to preserve the texture and quality. Any fashionista knows to wash before wearing them and to facilitate that, the MELT TAG goes in the wash too. It cleans your new clothes and there’s no tag to throw away. LOVE IT!

Accordion Package is a space-saving container for instant noodes that can be compressed like an accordion. This makes it easier to store and carry and cuts down on the cost of transportation. The acordian-like surface decreases the contact points with your hands to prevent burning. After the noodles are eaten, it can be compressed to save space in the trash too. Clever.

How many “flips” does it take to make your Smartphone super-sexy. The answer? Three flexible AMOLED touchscreens and a keyboard on the reverse! Here’s what the Flip Phone feels like: a smart triangular piece held together with soft steel mesh hinges, hosting a custom flavor of Android.The boundaries of a PC and phone have smudged-up big time and this is a sample of what that future looks like. I love it!

How super is super modular? You’ll have to judge that for yourself. The amount of modular any item can be really depends on how modular the person using it allows it to be. Be super modular! This shelving system is modular to the max, it’s called IVY Modular Shelving Systems and it’s made to grow on your wall according to your lifestyle, changing at your will. IVY allows you to configure and reconfigure the assembled layout as you wish, each shelf moving with ease. Unique configurations can be done with as many or as few shelves as you wish.

Take a peek at this lovely sharp sports car with the Ferrari name slapped on it, inspired by the form language of Credo E-Bone, another design by the same designer that’s no less that a city bus. That, and the bones of animals and humans are where this comes from. This designer takes the Italian dynamic and organic, soft shapes that are closest to nature. Inside and out, this vehicle is meant to radiate energy and power.

In case my title wasn’t obvious enough, this is the Ant Table by Oliver Nikolic – a modern take on a coffee table that emphasizes simplicity and functionality by using simple materials; wood and glass. Two tabletops at different levels are connected with gently curved legs. Look closely and you may see how it got its name. It’s an ideal compliment to any contemporary living space and every aspect of the design expresses a simplicity that gives it a timless qualitty.

This is no run-of-the-mill Mercedes. This is a design exercise that pays homage to Mercedes-Benz’s racing history. The streamlined body is supposed to evoke airplanes, speed and movement. I love looking at exploratory sketches because you can get a feel on what designer Peter Vardai was thinking. As he evolved each shape, the decision to “TRON” out the design seemed like a good idea. Audi just released an official concept so why not Mercedes too?

It’s taken a lot of designers to come up with this idea, so I guess we better humor them! What we have here is a public bench called Fresh Chair, a place where you can stop and rest. An integrated plant-world coexists with the comfort zone and is used to trap and harness energy to power LEDs as night lights. They also provide a cooling mist during the summer heat. Maybe they can replace the lush palm trees dotting Dubai with Fresh Chair, what do you think?

No I’m for real, “External Light” is a concept floor lamp that relies on you to mop your floors regularly to store kinetic energy to power the lamp integrated into the entire length of the stick. Novel idea but there’s a deeper meaning. Designer Arthur Xin is one designer on spiritual journey and his work represents a symbolic way of mopping up the bad to create positive energy.
