Floating Watch of Time

Floating Watch of Time

Although all watches are watches of time, not all watches are floating watches of time. This watch is one that takes into account the first through third dimensions, plus the fourth, which designer Matej Korytar says is time itself. Ironically, this fourth dimension is displayed in the third. This display has the capability to display the time based on gravity or relative to the head of the person whose wrist the watch is around. Need to see the time? No more need to move your arm, just look down at it! So very simple.

The following is one of several designs entered into this year’s INDEX: Challenge, Design for Education – this design being amongst the finalists for the contest. This challenge is a yearly contest in which entrants are asked to propose solutions to improve education in developing countries’ schools. What designers François Verez & Ane Eguiguren prepose here is what they call a “Teddy Bag,” a school bag that doubles as a desk. It’s made entirely out of cardboard light enough to be easy for a little kid to carry, yet hearty enough to stay strong and carry that kid’s school supplies safely.

Speed Demon Powered by Biofuel

As the world moves away from petrol, we have to envisage what the effects will be across all motor vehicles. This concept sport Modenas bike uses biofuel, specifically palm oil to burn pavement. The design is inspired by cenderawasih, a type of bird of paradise. The resulting shape is aggressive yet fluid. It’s not my cup of tea but I know many rocket heads that would love to take this to the tracks.

I don’t own many memory cards and have just one functional card reader for my Kodak’s memory chip. However, I know people who carry plenty of memory cards in their cute little card storage boxes…. show offs! Yea I know you own many gadgets, click many pictures, store loads of data! Anyways, as I was saying; just having cards is not enough, you need to compliment it with a Card Reader. To cut the entire process by one step, Peng Qixuan has designed a multi cardholder that incorporates a USB stick. What a functional idea!

How About a Soft Screw?

Soft Screwdriver is a very easy to carry set of tools that is cleverly packaged. Ten different screwdriver shafts are housed in a strip made of plastic and rubber, which can be rolled to form the driver-head. Simply affix the right-sized tool you require into the middle of the driver-head and you’re ready to go! Folded like a bamboo mat or unfurled, I like the compact design.

If you’ve never had your salt and pepper dispensed by a grinder, you’ve never really seasoned your food. If you’ve never had salt and pepper grinders that took on the shapes of chef’s hats, you’ve never really ground! The following project is called “Chef Power” and is a super cute approach to the classic chef’s hat, made tiny and helpful in combining the shape with the grinder of our favorite two seasonings in the world!

Here’s a table that will take all of your dining room table needs and put them in a nice clean package that was made perfect by machines who knew exactly what they were doing. This table goes by the name P_46, totally unassuming and ready to be picked up by the wild-naming community of copywriters our design world has to offer – made also as an office table, so perhaps “Dualie?”

If you’ve never heard of holocube before, you’re in for a treat. This is a brand of products in their own category. Presentation machines I suppose you could call them, but projectors + projection booth + ultra-simplified computer to hold the projected video is what they are, and not just any projection booth – transparent glass for two-sided viewing. The model this post focuses on is the brand new HC70, a six foot tall box with a 70″ diagonal screen for full-sized human projections.

Ring-shaver is a small, tube-shaped shaver that slips over the finger. In comparison to traditional shaving, Ring-shaver allows a more flexible shaving action. A toggle switch activates the flywheel to provide the necessary driving force. Ring-shaver does not require charging. It saves energy and is easy to carry. Great for sparse facial hair.
