Hangtags Save Trees, Cleans Clothes
To reduce the volume of paper waste with hang tags, take a look at the MELT TAG. New clothes are actually coated in chemicals to preserve the texture and quality. Any fashionista knows to wash before wearing them and to facilitate that, the MELT TAG goes in the wash too. It cleans your new clothes and there’s no tag to throw away. LOVE IT!
Melt Tag is a 2010 Red Dot Concept Design winning entry.

What is the soap made of? Usually soap contains either animal products (which are both unsustainable and unethical), or palm oil, which is grown in plantations that used to be rainforests, so the trees for the production were already felled. It would be interesting to have a true eco-comparison between conventional paper tags and the melt tag, considering all kinds of factors.

That's pretty much what I came here to say! If this soap has animal byproducts it would keep me from buying the clothing. But I love the idea.

even if the soap was made of animal byproducts or palm oil, it wouldn't matter, because the tag is a substitute for regular detergent. (i.e. you would use less ordinary detergent because the tag is already a detergent). So in the end, a tag-size worth of paper is saved, and zero difference in soap byproducts.
if you already use a special type of environmentally-friendly detergent (i.e. not made of animal byproducts or plants – not sure what that would be), then there is an argument. but i think most people don't.
sorry for posting twice, didn't see the reply button.

Very good idea, but why the safety-pin?

Is this product commercially available? If so, how and where could I purchase it or get a sample of it. We are a printing company and this could be a good product for us to position with our environmentally conscious customers.
